Character Idea Consideration

Unread post by EnlightenedVagabond »

Hello again.

Recently Ive been mulling over possible character ideas regarding a new campaign thats starting in the works.

Most of the other players have worked out their character, others are still in the air on exactly what they were going to play, its been made clear the level of power is to be in the realm of "Nothing as powerful or more powerful than a Dragon Hatchling".

The game idea is a Mercenary style game, with the characters expected to be aware of this coming in and have focused reasons for being in and staying in a mercenary group and working with others.

The other character so far are:

-Ex-CS Military Specialist (human) was kicked/dishonorably discharged due to treason on his father's part (dont know the sordid past in full just the gist)

-One of the players is considering either an Operator or Rogue Scientist with races running from what I could understand "Lost Ones" from Mercenaries or a Cat Girl race, whose name escapes me at the moment.

-Another player was looking at playing a modified Dog-boy (Fox girl instead) and focusing on being the party medic/doc with psionics.

-Other player was looking at the Auto-G race and hadnt chosen a class, but was considering a Magic O.C.C. since no one had chosen one yet. Also hes aware that Auto-G cant be a caster.

-Other player, wanted to play a Dragon Hatchling that could metamorph for a while but was guided out of that role as the GM thinks it wont fit/too powerful. So she most likely will be looking into playing Oni (phase world sourcebook) Ninja or Ronin... not sure yet

-I was heavily considering my Burster, but Im not sure what I bring to the group other than mega AOE that has the potential to kill my group as that was heavily emphasized that each character bring something to the group and fit well with it backstory wise.

For my Burster's backstory he was a NGR Intelligence Commando who was also a burster, that specialized in hunting down Brodkil and Gargoyles and other supernatural evil monsters, he was brought over from Europe to NA by trade cargo plane or such to work closely with Free Quebec as a NGR Liason for the NGR and Triaxx, ultimately was 'betrayed' by local FQ forces and abandoned for some reason. Not sure other than to make credits/find a way back to Germany would I be a mercenary.

So I am looking at alternative character ideas that work. At least for this particular game, I have a level 4 Vagabond from an old game that could be doing Merc work for the paycheque or to explore, but I dont see how he would be very good at it.

Thanks for your time and input

I think there are some really interesting ideas in here. Especially the Fox Medic character I think that is a good idea and if she was pyrokinetic (Fire Fox, get it?) that would mean your Burster would be able to contribute to the group. Hell, if the game master let all the players start with minor psionics and pyrokenisis than your Buster all of a sudden becomes ten times as awesome and it could be your merc companies "threme."

But that requires everyone getting approved by the GM before hand and the other players thinking it would be a cool idea too. Off the top of my head I am not sure if there is a Psionic power that makes you impervious to flame (and I can't check right now either) but with those two powers (which I think you can get if your team are minor psi's?) you wouldn't need to worry about killing your party with AOE and it would allow your team to occasionally work together throwing out a walls of fire at certain locations at once so you could box folks in etc.

I do know though that if you get a Mystic or a Ley Line Walker they can cast impervious to fire and fuel flame which makes you even MORE kick ass (90 yard diameter MD flames) which is perfect for combating larger forces (Like Gargoyles) but not so great in populated areas. I know this because my first two players built their characters together to do exactly that.

If that idea isn't something you think is awesome or not something everyone wants to get on board with I personally really like the Phateon Juicer from Juicer Uprising but I have never played one and I have always really wanted to. They're the best at what they do, they're less powerful than a regular Juicer but strap one into some flying PA or a small aircraft and they'll fly circles around the competition.

Keep me posted on what happens with your group, your character and your game. Sounds interesting!

So an update on the game.

The characters are now as follows.

Male Human Ex-CS Military Specialist (Same, no changes)

Female (Catperson race from Manhunter) Sniper, named Kitty Boom Boom.

Male (unknown) Phateon Juicer (This player was the one looking into the Auto G, but decided to be the group "Wheelman" instead.

Female Fennix Fox Dog Girl, new breed out of Lonestar, bred to be able to hear a heartbeat up to 200 feet away, so her role is combat medic, high psionics of the healing variety.

Female Oni Ninja, Advanced Recon/Stealth specialist (hasnt changed much from previous, shes new to Rifts)

Male Pleasurer Temporal Warrior, Infiltration Master/Mystical support (my character).

So far this seems to be the decision on everyones parts, its a Round Robin style of GM game with three GMs, me being one of them, I'm not starting it. I will update in this thread as the adventure goes.

Campaign update (loosely recollected from the Temporal Warriors PoV)

First Session

The group at the beginning consists of the Human Ex-Military Specialist, Catgirl (Manhunter Race im told) Sniper/EOD expert that has the ability to teleport, as per the superpower, a Fennec Fox Girl from Lone Star accepting a job to track down and locate a secret abandoned pre-rifts facility for a interested and well-paying party in Lazlo. Once at the location of the supposed facility, the group runs afoul of a local CS squad (also on the hunt for this facility) ((I was asleep in Real Time as my character was not yet part of the game, my wife was also finishing her Oni Ninja)) Massive combat ensues, (GM feels that combat might be dragging on by the rules) The players ultimately defeat/disable the patrol which consisted of a Samas, a few skelebots and some grunts. Upon leaving the facility one of the players; Catgirl Sniper notices something descending from the atmosphere rapidly, she notes it to be a small craft of some kind.

Meanwhile, I have been woken up from my Temporal Stasis, and notice I am no longer onboard the vessel I went to sleep on and am infact on the floor of an escape pod with alarms blaring and buzzing all around me. I also notice an Oni nearby also unconscious (In my history I knew the character but hadnt seen her for years before I entered Temporal Stasis. So naturally, being a bit of a paranoid survivalist I am, I kick her awake holding a gun to her head, yelling "Where did we meet and whats your name?" incase it was some sort of magical trick or shapeshifter.

Naturally, my wife isnt prepared for this and starts freaking out, not knowing what to say, she honestly "thinks" im about to kill her character, I of course calm her down (again new to Rifts; not understanding the lore and history of the game fully yet) though eventually she makes something up and I roll with it. I love adlibbing on the spot :)

As were clearing that up, I am able to level off the escape pod off and initiate a scan of the area, as we crashed down, sensors picked up the other PCs in the area, managing to crash down in relative safety, unaware where in the three galaxies I was, why Shinji (Oni Ninja) was with me, and where the rest of the ship had gone, and last but not least; whether these humanoids surrounding the pod were hostile.

I conjured superior invisibility on the both of us, and the Oni "powered" up and lifted the pod off of us as according to the GM, it had landed door down during the crash, the others were unable to sense us in anyway, we attempted to sneak past, however I sadly rolled 100% on my 84% prowl check, causing the only person who could even remotely have a chance of sensing us (Fennic Fox Girl) to notice the slight noise.

We still managed to elude them and silently observed them attempting to mess with the pod, I decided to take a risk and contact the Fox Girl telepathically, inquiring as to whether they were hostile, where the closest spaceport was and what planet they were on. I phrased it more, "Where in the Three Galaxies are we?" She responded with "Huh? Gala-what? Your on Earth..." My character knows nothing of Rifts Earth, neither does Shinji.

In anycase, I after deeming them not a threat at least as far as See Aura and talking with the fox girl, I decided to drop the invisibility, and meet these 'strange' humanoids properly.

That sounds like a really cool way to have the characters meet up. Kudos to the GM.
