Elf's Gallery: Ships of Robotech Series

Unread post by TheElf »

I've begun a new series that will begin to focus on reconciling some of the details of the Lesser known ships of RT. The Ikazuchi Question got some good dialogue going, so more of the same except I plan on answering some questions, of course but I don't mean to spark a raging debate. First up:

The Banshee class. Lot's of variance in the Fandom. Is there anything official at palladium? The old SC book has nothing on the Banshee, Battle, or Tristar, so I am tempted to go with the ROBOTECH Technical files for the basis of my hyper accurate representation of it.

Lineart is about 85%, but I want to get some other stuff done before I provide peeks...

there is pretty much no OSM available for this ship. everyone's material for it pretty much qualifies as "fan invention".

Palladium has the larger Tristar stated out in the Southern Cross Sourcebook, so i'd just scale it off that larger ship.

None of that is official in any way... not even in Robotech proper. There's no OSM information for any of the ships in Southern Cross, and frankly there's almost no art for them either. It's all pure conjecture on the part of the fans.

Look forward to seeing what you come up with. Also if you don't mind I would like to start using some of your art in my Robotech files on my personal wiki. Full credit given of course with a link to your deviant art page if you want.
I am very opinionated. Yes I rub people the wrong way but at the end of the day I just enjoy good hard discussion and will gladly walk away agreeing to not agree :D

Ships of the Southern Cross: one of the most sadly neglected parts of all the arcs; it just seems like no original line art of them has surfaced(or survived).

And the Turning of a Page"

By all indications, it looks more like it's a case of the designers simply having never made much in the way of line art for the ships... they, like the mecha, seem to have been an eleventh hour addition to what was originally not going to be a mecha series at all.

Quite. It's not a problem confined solely to the ships either, there's a distinct lack of production art for pretty much every mechanical design in the original Southern Cross. Most of the time, you're lucky if you get more art than just an angled view from the front... and if you want actual stats, well then you're asking too much of the art book and magazine articles. :-(

Haven't seen your site, but as long as I am credited I have no issues. The link to my DA page would be great!

I think the Tokugawa/Liberté ship art appeared in the October 1984 issue of Animec, and can be seen at the uRRG and in the Prelude "Data Files."

Is there any further developments on this art work?
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."
