1st RPG Character...Ratman, a fighter-thief for D&D. Think 'Batman' with slicked back hair, a much more self-serving attitude, and swordsmanship.
1st Robotech Character---Steven 'The Cockroach' Merrill---TechnoBandit and RDF Supply Officer...Think Radar O'Reilly with mecha skills and much more extensive black market connections.
1st Rifts Character...Bambi "the 'Borg' Carruthers, full conversion cyborg with REALLY high MA, Professional-level cooking skill, and a rail gun called 'Thumper'.

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
My first role playing character was a human thief named "Fran Gervolf".I seem to recall it being fun.
My first palladium character was a RDF VT pilot from the first edition Robotech. It was a chance to be a VT pilot.
My first Rifts character was a Special forces Merc named"Pepper Verson".At the time I thought the more ways of getting by the better.

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
When i first started reading this thread I thought holy cow that was nearly 30 years & thousands of characters ago, I couldnt possibly remember my first character...
Then I did, Thank you. Criminy I'm tearing up.
First time I ever played D&....errr another RPG was with my big brother who has since passed away.
I was a wizard. He was the DM. I fought a red dragon and met a very quick death, oddly magic missle isnt that strong to start with, and 30 year obssession began.
Again, thank you for bringing it up.
Seriously Im sitting here crying like a little girl who had her lollipop stolen and i couldnt be happier about it.

1. T'skrang, Earthdawn 1st edition, Although I consider Heroquest, MTG and Battletech Mini's a gateway drug into RPGs.
2. A cyberknight named Maxx Sterling, later became a ley-line walker and god after about 10 years of real life gameplay.
3. Artwork was the motivating factor.
4. My GM actually suggested both.

1) A Thief out of the Red D&D Basic Set. His name was Jerith.
2) I was a GM in the early days of playing Rifts. My first player character I made was probably a mutant porcupine I brought over from TMNT, named Ouch. I also made a City Rat name, Jerith later on (homage to my first ever character).
3) For D&D, I was 12 years old, and my buddies D&D stuff looked kewl. For Rifts, I just enjoyed playing Ouch (who was later renamed 'Hystrix'.
4) For D&D there was no talking nessisary. It was a basic class, and I liked it, so I choose it.

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
1) My first character ever was a d&d halfling built using the 1980 basic set. Didn't last long though.
2) My first Rifts character was a human Cyclone Rider.
3) Motivation? For the halfling it was The Lord of the Rings. For the Cyclone Rider it was a test of the system. We had gotten about a ten players together (only about five of us stayed together) to try Rifts and after handing out the characters that I'd created to check out the character creation system (whenever I get a new RPG I create a few characters) that was what I had left over (I was also playing around with my brother's Robotech books)
4) For the halfling I was the GM so it didn't matter. For the cyclone rider, since he was originally created to test the system the GM didn't really care either as we were all new to Rifts.

hells yeah it is! I love that it is a game that you can easily have nearly every kind of genre in and it makes some semblance of sense in the context of the game. From super serious drama, to slapschtick comedy, to supernatural thriller to every kind of martial art troupe ever thought of!
We just finished up an arc involving my character who is the priestess of a celestrial storm dragon from japan, battling an army of demon-fire-ninja with cyborg backup in a mortal combat-esque royal rumble for the fate of the world and now they can't come back until the next cherry blossom bloom where we'll do it all again! And this is right after a story-arc previous involving scooby-doo like investigation and a zombie breakout!

I was like 5 or something when I first played D&D.
I don't remember what my character was.
My first character for Rifts was either a Full Conversion Borg named "Heavy Metal," or a Shifter named "Killer Cyborg from Heck"

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
my first character was a Rifts Headhunter with a suit of Flying Titan Armor.
As a great introduction to the world of roleplaying, my GM decided to screw me at every turn. From taking out the radar system of my suit on a whim, to having a mechanic cross-wire the suit and have it spin out of control in the repair bay, firing off all its mini-missiles, to flying me full-speed into the ground after I was hit by a laser...fun times!

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
It was 1983 D&D Basic Red Box Set. A level one fighter named Cyclonis. Reached level 36 is a short 3 years.
First Palladium first edition Character was Greyaxe, a 12'6" Wolven.
I have played more role playing games than I can remember. The worst for me was Toon, an RPG where you role played a WB cartoon character. http://www.sjgames.com/toon/
One of my favorite games was the Warhammer fantasy role playing game and of course most of the Palladium line.
I also have a very long history as a MERP GM using the Rolemaster system.

My first RIFTS character was a headhunter, but since I never really had a steady gaming group until college it was pretty forgettable.

1) First RP'ing character ever? Give a description of what race and all that and what RPG it was played in.
Hmm...probably a female elf mage in Rolemaster. I remember very little about her or the Rolemaster system
2) If #1) wasn't in Rifts then what was your first Rifts character?
The first character that I played in Rifts was a HU:R Experiment with APS Electricity and Vibration and half a dozen split personalities. The GM just picked the party up from our current HU:R campaign and rifted us onto Rifts Earth, converting our powers and equipment to MD (this was before CB1).
I don't remember much about my first actual Rifts character other than he was a human cyber-knight.
3) What motivated you to play these?
I liked the RMB cyberknights. It was a nice simple OCC that didn't require much bookkeeping like a mage of psychic.
4) Now be honest, what was your DM/GM's reaction/response to it and how did you talk them into it?
The GM probably said something like "Cyberknight! Good!" and then moved on to the next player.
That first Rifts campaign went badly. All the players tried playing RMB characters and a 3D6MD laser rifle is pretty worthless when the GM only sends 200+MDC supernatural critters at you that you can't escape from. After he killed us all, we all came back with super powered characters that were more appropriate for the power level.

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
1) First RP'ing character ever? Give a description of what race and all that and what RPG it was played in.
Mordray Darkblood
Race: human
Class: Rune Warrior
RPG: honestly, I don't know what the game system was... the GM listened to my description had an evil twinkle in his eyes and then the next day I was playing with the others, who were a bit nervous given that my character folder had about twenty pages in it while most of there's only had 3 or 4.
Rune Warriors are essentially people who have rediscovered the ancient and forbidden art of Rune scribing. These warriors would brand themselves while performing dark rituals of blood and demon binding. When they were done the Warriors would have powers fueled by Demonic energy. With their own bodies enhanced to superhuman but not supernatural levels and serving as living batteries they would scribe runes into their armor and weaponry allowing them to imbue the items with power and abilities well beyond the normal range.
Mordray quickly became an infamous character in the universe after the player group refused to let him aid them. They (the players) were expecting me to create a different more 'normal' character... I recall the GM laughing at the expectation and then assuring me that Mordray's journey didn't depend upon the group being present.
Not long after Mordray encountered the 'great evil' of the land, though he didn't know it at the time, being attacked with his guards hard pressed to hold out much longer, much less actually defeat the attackers. Mordray stepped in a helped the guards turn the tide back in their favor. It was at that point that Mordray severely injured became aware of just who he'd saved. As the one known as The Master presented himself to Mordray and offered the warrior both aid and his choice of reward from among a collection of magical artifacts or the chance to serve him. Mordray chose to serve him with the intention of getting close enough to kill The Master when he would stand a chance.
Mordray's long journey to kill The Master would eventually find Mordray serving The Master honestly, as he began to see what The Master sought to create and what he had already managed to create. A land of unity and peace born of lands that had till then known only war and hardship. Eventually The Master with the aid of Mordray, who eventually became the leader of a battle group of fellow Rune Warriors, did succeed in creating a better world. As for the players and their characters... well they died to the last defending the last bastion of 'freedom'.
Last I heard from that GM Mordray still lived as a legend in his games complete with a full suit of armor and weapons scattered about the land hidden away "until such time as the Darkness of the Light would be again needed to bring about the peace of ages past." he even had a player who was hunting for the artifacts in the hopes of defeating the invading barbarians who are threatening the peace.
2) If #1) wasn't in Rifts then what was your first Rifts character?
CS Juicer
3) What motivated you to play these?
With Mordray... well I like the idea of character's whose power comes from evil and yet they are themselves not evil.
For the Juicer... well I wanted a fast moving melee capable character.
4) Now be honest, what was your DM/GM's reaction/response to it and how did you talk them into it?
My first Game Master was honestly pleased with my description and concept for the character's class which was partially inspired by his background for the campaign.
As for the GM during my time as a CS Juicer... well that was partially his idea as it was a CS campaign.

My very first character was, I believe, in GURPS Supers. I played a Sandman clone (I.E. Sandman the Spider-Man villain, not the Vertigo Sandman, Dream). After that I can't tell you what character I played next but it was likely either in GURPS Fantasy, AD&D, or Rifts, as those were the RPG books which my friend had and showed me back in the day. I believe my first Rifts character was, in fact, a Cyber-Knight (Who was murdered by the party Juicer for the few credits he had on him. ).

1) First RP'ing character ever? Give a description of what race and all that and what RPG it was played in.
The first time I played I was using someone elses character. His name was Scavenger. He looked like Anubus and basically had Wolverine's powers. When I got my own character he was a mantis themed knock off of Guyver.
2) If #1) wasn't in Rifts then what was your first Rifts character?
I played a burster named hellhound. I would have made him a a dogboy but my GM allowed it (probably could have talked him into it later)
3) What motivated you to play these?
I've always liked werewolves and animals in general. I picked the burster over a dogboy (we only had the main book at first) because I liked the idea of being dangerous to MD creatures without any weapons. I might have picked a cyber knight or a mind melter but being immune to fire seemed to be very useful (I could wear the rocketeers jet pack without burning my legs off)
4) Now be honest, what was your DM/GM's reaction/response to it and how did you talk them into it?
My first character(s) were made by the gm. My burster got no interesting response that I remember (it was in junior high)

1) it was an atlantean undead slayer from RIFTS, obviously.
2) see number 1
3) I was 12 and my dad had bought me RMB, Atlantis and CWC. I've been hooked ever since!
4) my GMs response? "okay... You DO realize you'll get no extra tattoos, right?"

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
My answers
1) Human Destroid pilot in Robotech and he died during the first wave of the Zentraedi assault…took oa full salvo of SRMs on a critical strike and his attempt to eject was failed… The second character is still around, he was a military specialist that ended up as a colonel leading unconventional warfare operations with the Sentinels and is still a GMNPC…my first TMNT character was a mutant weasel ninja that started out with about 8 attacks per round and then got metaled up like a big fiend after we watched Robocop II and bought Cyberpunk and Shadowrun...we thought that cyber was the coolest thing ever!! Still have the cyber-weasel as well…and the conversion bug hit me right then and there...
2) First pure RIFTS character was LT Maximillian Von Queren, military specialist…who, through no fault of his own ended up going rogue and knocking up a d-bee bar girl and became a gunslinger/town protector.
3) I just like military characters…at least in PB games…

Mutant. This is a Swedish Roleplaying Game (which later spawned: Mutant 2, Mutant 2.2 Mutant Space and Mutant Chronicles). It is placed in Scandinavia and the lands around the Baltic Sea a bit after the 3rd World War and a new, Human Empire called the Pyri-Community, which hates all mutants (there are animals, human and plant mutants).
I played a Rubbit. A Rubbit is a very intelligent rabbit (or hare) that walks on its hind-legs and has arms instead of front legs. They are just about 2.5 feet high and is one of the few races that has adapted very well to this new world by re-inventing steam power, telegraphs and a few other things and use tools.
What I liked about the rubbits was that they are so afraid of all meat-eaters (humans, bears, wolves, foxes) that they have declared war on all of them as they believe that a good offence is the best defence. And this war they fight with a dilligent and a focused mind, through infiltration, sabotage, massacers and terrorist actions and they will not stop until there are no meat-eaters left in the world.
My Rubbit - Lt Hyzenthlay Wolfnibbler - was along range spy who travelled with other adventures to make a map of all meat-eating societies so that my leaders could know where they were located and could prepare The liberation of Scandinavia. Like most Rubbits, Hyzentlay could control her hatred and instead of kiling the other players convinced herself that she used them as tools for the war to come. If they would help her kill a few humans/bears/dragon etc then that would be a few enemies that the rubbits would not have to fight later. But she knew that in the end, if her ''friends'' would not agree to go vegentarian in the end, when The Liberation came, she would have to kill them....
I am a girl, I just show some cleavege and I get what I want...and when I do not get what I want I pout my lips and look very sad and vulnerable...dont you guys do that?
I got to admit this has been one of the most enjoyable postings I've read on here. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed all of them its just this posting has such Voice and it portrays a clearer picture and shows how much of an impression Lt Hyznthlay Wolfnibbler made on you, guessing you liked the book too. Beundransvärd! Thank you for sharing, All of you.
Loved the last part of the quote too, but I'll stick with bribbing them using Beer, Draft Cider or Mead
Just for your information Ff, I found the character sheet a few weeks ago along with an assortment of old RPG documents, maps, characters and papers from more than 12 years of playing RPGs while cleaning the basement

1) D&D "Red Box": Ironfoot the Dwarf, fighter. 1984! A long time ago, in a country far far away...
2) Juicer: I call him "Juicer" because it sounded super cool and original in 1991!
3) The Dwarf was given to me by my first DM. I chose the Juicer because it was a POWERHOUSE...and I did not care about dying young in those years.
4) The first one, he was happy that I liked the character that he gave me. About the Juicer, he told me: "he is way too powerful...be careful what you do!"...actually he was a bit afraid of GMing RIFTS for the first time!

1) First RP'ing character ever? Give a description of what race and all that and what RPG it was played in.
Logan, a Halfling from the D&D Basic set. He died early and often in the Caves of Chaos. That's right, when he died, we'd just start over, like a video game.
2) If #1) wasn't in Rifts then what was your first Rifts character?
Oswald, a Rogue Scholar/former CS pilot.
3) What motivated you to play these?
Logan, because I was 12 and had just read The Lord of the Rings for the 2nd or 3rd time, so I liked Hobbits.
Oswald, because we needed a pilot
4) Now be honest, what was your DM/GM's reaction/response to it and how did you talk them into it?
not really applicable.

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
My first character ever was a borrowed one. He was an elf in Palladium Fantasy. I was at a boy scout camp, and the older boys were playing it; it looked like fun.
It was a pretty standard adventure, the party was hired to go after some raiders. The party headed out and camped for the night. Then one of the boys had a short, private conversation with the GM. When they came back, he had his character offer mine some chicken, perfectly prepared. My elf accepted gratefully.
Then the GM had me roll to save, and my elf died of poison.
The party split up my character's belongings. The troll got to eat the elf's meat, and the poisoner got the elf bones (they were worth a lot to alchemists in 1st Edition).
Kids are mean.

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
1) First RP'ing character ever? Give a description of what race and all that and what RPG it was played in.
Old school DnD. My cousins had the basic book and wanted to run a game. I asked if I could be a werewolf (this was before Monster Manuals, etc.) after some finagling they let me, since nobody else wanted to play. He was basically a human fighter who had to drink a potion to change (because werewolves only changed on full moons). I was happy.
2) If #1) wasn't in Rifts then what was your first Rifts character? Heh, a werewolf. I think it took longer to write him up than to play him though. I can't recall a background either, but we were running around China (I think all they had was Core and Conversion Book 1).
3) What motivated you to play these? Strange wolfman fixation, as a kid I was crazy about werewolves. The universal movie, nf books on witchcraft, etc. I think I liked the metamorphosis aspect.
4) Now be honest, what was your DM/GM's reaction/response to it and how did you talk them into it? My cousins were reluctant, since it wasn't "in the rules", but they were amenable and it worked out to being basically a fighter who used claws. Since werebeasts were allowed in Rifts, the Gm was fine with him.

Re: Show yer Nerd, First RP Character ever
1.) My first PC (I believe) was a Mutant Gorilla in TMNT. His name was Bubba and he had a .50 cal machine gun mounted to his Dukati(sp) motorcycle.
2.) I've never played Rifts
3.) He was randomly rolled. My motivation was my uncle (the GM) made RPG's sound awesome and as he was my hero/best friend when I was a kid, I wanted to do everything he did.
4.) He wasn't impressed with the name "Bubba" and when I mounted the .50 cal to the crotch rocket he just sort of cocked an eyebrow at me and asked was I sure I wanted to do that. I was a kid and didn't have a firm grasp of the firepower involved or how it would effect piloting the bike.

Sounds like Stormbringer RPG.
