mystic portal
can an item TW etc that can cast mystic portal be used to redirect projectiles(bullets, energy etc.) example narrow hallway mage walks into ambush uses mystic portal to send the bullets coming at him back at the enemies by opening the other end of the mystic portal in the ceiling above them.

Re: mystic portal
In theory, but sinse mystic portal can only be cast on surfaces and not in the air, the best you could do is cast it on the wall behind you and only ones that miss and go into the portal would go the ceiling, and then only in the exact corresponding area that the bullets entered. so unless the guy shooting you misses and happens to hit the mystic portal behind you at the precice X-Y co-ordinates that correspond to his location below the portal above him, he wouldn't hit himself, or anyone else.
Now if you have a tightly packed group of enemies all spraying bursts, then yea, i'm sure someone will manage to hit someone else/himself, but in a one on 1 fight, it's unlikely. as GM, i'd probablly just roll a % die based on how many people are in the radius of the portal above them.
Of course, the real problem is them just moving away from the portal above them.
All in all, it's a nice trick, but very situational.
IF your in a narrow hallway
IF your enemies are tightly packed
IF your enemies are all laying down a lot of bursts
then maybe you can lure them into doing some damage to themselves. Once. that is, if they arn't already familiar with the mystic portal spell and can see the problem before they fire. Or maybe you do it in another situation and just get lucky. then again, if the enemy are that tightly packed in that narrow an area, your probablly better off lobbing grenades or any other AoE attack.
Bottom line, I'd be giving XP for a clever idea, but in all honesty, in the kinds of situations your discribing you have better options for 60 PPE.

I don't have my books with me, but I don't remember this being a constraint for the teleport kind of mystic portals, only the "walk through walls" kind.

I don't care about canon answers. I'm interested in good, well-reasoned answers and, perhaps, a short discussion of how that answer is supported or contradicted by canon.
If I don't provide a book and page number, then don't assume that I'm describing canon. I'll tell you if I'm describing canon.

I checked the book of magic before I answered. the teleport kind specifically must be placed on a flat, verticle surface only. same with the walk through walls.

What if I take out my trusty carpet and cast mystic portal on it and hold it up in front of me to catch the bullets?Nekira Sudacne wrote:In theory, but sinse mystic portal can only be cast on surfaces and not in the air, the best you could do is cast it on the wall behind you

Or cast Energy Shield or TK Forcefield and then cast Mystic Portal on it?

That would be a GM's call.

Both of them are explicitly domes, and thus fail the flat surface requirement.

Energy Field can be a wall or bubble. Book of Magic, pg 101.

I am developing a TW Kite Shield with Mystic Portal enchanted onto it. Still in the research phase, fingers crossed.
