What Is Your Favorite Weapon In The Palladium Megaverse?

Unread post by SmilingJack »

You play with it every time

It's your go to armament

And when you're out of ammo or without your weapon of choice you feel vulnerable and naked

So,

What's your absolute favorite weapon in any palladium game?

I have two favorite weapons

1: Coalition CS-29 Hellfire

6D6md!

I think the CS 29 is the best weapon from the Rifts Ultimate Edition, It's a tremendous weapon that can be wielded by commandos and even a 114 pound female military specialist. I think for such a universal Weapon ,it provides high damage, and Is extremely versatile

My absolute favorite firearm

2. Power Halberd

I love tHis Melee weapon, I just love the idea that Its a ancient weapon that had been upgraded into a MDC weapon that is so powerful, and wheN linked to a SAMAS , it can run forever,
and at super high speeds, can devastate anY enemy

The C-27 does 6D6 MD - the C-29, it's replacement, does 1d6x10 MD. Which did you mean?

assuming you mean the C-27, since the C-29 isn't in RUE:

While i do have characters who use this gun (my "current" character - not really so current, but hey - uses one) - strictly speaking the L-20 puts it to shame in every way. It has a selectable fire for when massive damage isn't needed, does the same damage on a pulse setting (6d6 MD), and gets more shots out of a short clip (13 pulses + 1 shot, compared to 10 shots on the C-27; a long clip increases this to 16 pulses) and is harder to resist (many things are immune or resistant to fire, which includes plasma, but fewer things are straight up impervious to energy). Those Canister clips are hard to carry a lot of compared to E-clips, and are a lot more expensive to recharge.

It's a workhorse. Similarly, If we're talking about a C-29, the range is shorter (1400ft vs 1600ft for the C-27), a Wilk's 457 is a better deal all around. Same damage on a pulse, similar or better damage efficiency (shots/pulses per clip), doesn't use those huge E-cannisters, and has far better range (2000ft).

If we want to stick with Plasma Ejectors, even, the NG-E4 takes the cake - 6d6MD, 1600ft range, and TWENTY! shots from a Long E-clip, no Cannister required.

... that got wordier than i wanted it to be.

Like i said, though, i do like the C-27; it's a good weapon. My current character, a Wolfen UWW Warlock Marine Technical Specialist (read: Wolfen Techno-Wizard) who has been stuck on earth for a few years after his platoon was stranded here while helping evacuate some of Tolkien's survivors to the UWW after the Fall, uses a captured C-27 for its ruggedness and intimidation value. It's a great single-shot weapon (6d6 for an aimed shot is hard to sneeze at) and does enough damage. Since he can recharge it himself,t he downsides to the Cannisters isn't really relevant.

If i had to go with my personal favorite weapon, though, that all my characters would use if they were able to - a HI-Colonial Laser Rifle (Phase World Sourcebook) - 4d6MD single shots, modifiable to pulse-fire with the Armorer skill (1d6x10), good range, rugged... and it freaking recharges itself in the sun!

Time Slip. I never truly feel naked as long as I have a charged Time Slip talisman ready.

But if you're really just interested in weapons, I have a handful that I like, but not any single one that is my clear favorite.

L-20 pulse laser rifle: cheap, efficient, common, generic. 2d6 damage single shot or 6d6 burst which is plenty of damage without crossing the line that makes you a primary target. Also an excellent candidate for TW power source conversion. If Triax weapons are common in the campaign, then the TX-30 pulse ion rifle is also an excellent contender.

TK weapons. Not really particular about which one. TW TK rifle in the body of an L-20 (so as not to draw attention to me) is nice. The entity powered TK rifle from Atlantis 2 is also very nice, but it's obvious magic nature might draw unwanted attention.

Phase beamers. If I absolutely can't avoid combat, being able to sell their gear undamaged afterwards is a nice consolation prize. I can do the same thing with Mental Blast, but phase beamers make it easier.

HI-80 Combat Laser Rifle (phaseworld p115) is my goto gun if the only thing I care about is conveniently doing damage to my target. A burst does 2d4x10+10MD. Not bad for a $40k rifle that can be purchased from multiple sources and makers. I've always wondered why this "generic" technology from the 3 galaxies isn't used by the Kittani even though it's cheaper and superior to their own laser weapons.

Swords. Probably every character I've ever made in any Palladium game had WP sword of one type or another. I'm a fan of wormwood resin swords since they do MD without radiating magic of any sort. Same with vibro swords. The phase sword is nice. I hate most of the high damage TW swords from FoM since they all lack elegance, but simpler TW swords like the fire sword or ice blade are both nice. But whatever the sword, it needs to be able to parry, so the Wilk's laser sword (or whatever) is straight out. I've never had a rune sword, but I wouldn't mind having one if the opportunity presented itself.

When it comes down to it, combat is something I usually leave to others who are better suited for it so my weapon choices are usually based on utility, convenience, and accessibility. I generally prefer weapons that I can charge via PPE (either TW weapons or e-clip charging via Sub-particle Acceleration) and weapons that don't draw unwanted attention to me.

Well, Splynncryth's Kittani aren't really in the Three Galaxies so they dont have widespread access to it; i never got the impression that all Kittani are created equally. The ones that serve Three Galaxies Splugorth probably actually have better technology than those that don't, and while they all have access to common Kittani technology (technology they possessed when "saved" by the Splugorth) different factions of Kittani have probably branched off in different directions by now.

Remember that these different sects can end up fighting each other, so it is probably unlikely that say, Blodkryth's Kittani trade their technological advances to Bitkryth's and so on. You dont want to hand a potential enemy a leg up.

Especially since in our games, a pulse can be aimed, and this is already a +1 when aiming weapon without a tactical scope or aim-point laser system. Even with all the newer weapons, many of which are guilty of various degrees of power creep, it's still a competitive weapon system in it's own right. I just which there was a combined 457 and grenade launcher version like there is a 447/GL model.

A competent weaponsmith should be able to make a combined weapon without much trouble, especially considering that the 447 and 457 probably fit in the same housing.

IIRC, wasn't there something about being able to "Aim" pulses, but only recieving the +1 bonus for a burst instead of the +3?

Our GM made the Bastard sword one handed instead of the Broadsword. Nothing said "one bad mother!" to my 11yr old imagination like a mutant kangaroo dual wielding twin bastard swords (swords and swearing in the same word! yes please) and screaming obscenity laden catch phrases while leaping into battle.

That was 25 years ago and it still makes me smile.

Oh, I forgot to mention my affection for 12 gauge shotguns. They were already useful for the ability to shoot slugs, shot, and MD explosives, but with the introduction of the APRJ round (2d6MD, $20 per shot), shotguns became the single most economical MD ranged weapon that I'm aware of in the game (even if it makes no sense).

I built an entire militia around them; AA-12's for the "heavy gunners", pump-action for the "riflemen" and breach-loaded double-barrels for "grenadiers".

It was absurd how much versatility they provided for being so damn cheap. When i got done with it, i was like "this town could actually stand off 20-30 bandits and probably win" - which is just silly. Think if you stuck with the original stats for APRJs - 3d6MD per?

The only "downside" is their relatively short range... but still.

I've always had a weakness for the good old NG-P7 rifle, all the way back from when the RMB came out. Good damage (great at the time), and I only have to roll a single die. And I never found the shorter range to be a problem.

One of my classic standbys was always the JA-11. Excellent, well-rounded weapon. Now my favorite is the Bandito Arms Universal Rifle. The ability to fire any caliber of rifle and shotgun round, plus Triax pump and Big Bore rounds? Sign me up! It's so awesome that it defies description.

I think it's the NG-57 pistol. Good damage, and devastating when you have two in the hands of a Gunslinger.
There's a reason...and a very good one...that I have certain people in this forum blocked both here and on Facebook.

In addition to some that were already mentioned (JA-11, CP-30)
I like the JA-12 and a nice reliable shotgun.

I believe it's called the NG-45LP (long pistol) - I've always liked that one.

Can't remember the technical name (pretty sure it's in Juicer Uprising) called "The Jackhammer"

Any of the pistols from New West that look like the old fashioned revolvers (rifles too).

I love the CFT weapons out of the new west. My Justice Ranger carries two "CFT Auto-Shooter"s (looks like a colt m1911a1, but kicks like nobody's biz!) The idea of cartridge style ammo that packs MD just speaks to me. Yeah, they don't tend to be as powerful as a lot of other availabe weapons, but from a roleplaying and imagination standpoint, I like them better,

Is that the one that bypasses body armour to strike the person directly ?

I had a GM bestow one on my samurai one time that had that power. Long story short he earned it by self sacrifice, was resurrected by his family's ancestral spirits and bestowed the family sword to him (which was the rune sword that wend through armour).

I gave an NPC the Daisho of Storms before. I didn't use him as an active character when I GM'd that campaign so I didn't see it as stealing anyone's spotlight. He never actually fought with them, he was there more as a guide, he did use the powers just more in an indirect sort of way.

I was just flipping through the GMG and found this little beauty on page 155:

Naut'Yll Sonic Rifle (technowizard weapon)

It's "sonic" damage which means it's kinetic and will damage someone impervious to energy.
2000' range for both the sonic attack and the stun attack.
sonic attack is 5d6MD which only costs 2PPE and you can store enough for 30 shots.
stun attack costs 3PPE (max capacity of 20 shots) and can damage folks inside armor or power armor if they fail their save vs magic.

The stun attack isn't as effective as a Phase Beamer, but it's decent and the sonic attack at 5d6/2PPE ranks close to the top for damage/ppe efficiency.

Yup, I'd call that one heck of a weapon.

As a GM I'd rule that the beam is invisible (you can't see sound) but that it wouldn't work in a vacuum or near-vacuum.

man, that makes me think of Sound Lance, the old D&D 3.5 divine spell. Talk about nonsense. Nothing has resistance to "sound" so it bypasses all DR, just maximize and empower it, then watch your GM give you the :nh:

Plus sonic weapons are just too...loud? Though the idea on paper is great.

I readily admit that I sort of didn't react well to this one...and I really, really should have paired attention to such feats as Sudden Maximize!

See, my issue is that while sound does in fact travel really well through water, I wasn't actually aware it could be focused that well. I kept imaging sound effects being similar to electrical effects. Only that apparently isn't actually the case I guess.

Either way, the Naut'yll are an advanced civilization apparently higher up the tech chain than humanity is currently, only their tech is actually techno-wizardry based. This basically allowed them to introduce a TW weapon that was fairly impressive in capability, and make it something no "mere" human TW could hope to replicate.

And once again, is it me, or was techno-wizardy supposed to be something unique to not just Earth, but North America? If so, why are there a half a dozen civilizations that base themselves on this stuff, and a few more (including Atlanteans, Lemurians, Splynnies people, ancient Japanese Gunsmiths, and an ENTIRE STAR NATION in Phase World) that are all using even more advanced versions of this than anyone on North America? Am I completely wrong about this stuff originating on North America then?!

I dont recall that ever being stated.

It's in the fluff text in the beginning of the RMB and the RUE. However, saying it originated in North America doesn't mean other civilizations shouldn't have it. Or that they couldn't have developed it independently. It just means Rifts Earth humans developed it in North America. Just because someone on Earth developed the technology to make wheels doesn't mean no one else in the universe has developed wheel tech.

In the whole megaverse? Wow. I don't have any single weapon that I simply must have every time I play.

My current favorite weapon is a Herbologist creation, the most-prized possession of my Scathach druid. It consists of two different staffs woven and twisted together, with several preserved wands tucked inside. The staffs are an oak staff of strength and a cedar staff.

The idea I had was that this staff is mostly un-enchanted. It starts out as an Oak Staff of Strength. The scathach would have to do favors and gradually enchant the other half of the staff and the various wands on it, and since his PPE was far too low to do this unaided, he would enchant a component of a staff with the help of others, usually as a reward for a quest, or to enable him to confront some type of danger.

At full enchantment (after quite a while of campaigning), the staff and its associated parts would have an impressive arsenal of powers, including:
+Control one lesser elemental and hold other lesser elementals at bay.
+Sleep spell 3X per day
+Dispel Magic barrier, Negate Magic, and Anti-Magic Cloud (each once per day)
+Heal 1D6 3X per day
+7 to save vs magic, +1 vs psionics
4D6 Damage (MDC to the supernatural).

Isn't that like saying that lasers are too bright?

Existing sonic weapons use frequencies above or below human hearing, and since they're directional, you can't detect them unless you're in the path of the beam. I can't tell from the description in the GMG what the authors intended, but I'd guess the frequencies involved are far above human hearing since the energy contained is immense.

I wonder how the sonic beam does damage.

Perhaps it's better to say that I like weapons that evolve and grow with the character.

My favorite canon weapons are the crystal swords from the Island at the Edge of the World campaign in PF. I'm also quite fond of Caliber-X from England, even though it's a nearly-unique prototype.

Some of the unique magic items and weapons from Bill Coffin's Palladium Fantasy books are pretty spiffy. I love the concept of Castledrake; a weapon that must be quested and assembled, piece-by-piece.

5d6+6 per shot on a pistol is pretty good. Not better max, but slightly better average damage than the NE-4.

How many rounds does the at130 hold??

I limit particle beam weapons to the heavy weapon category. So no particle beam pistols in my game.

Because in my game they require more power than you can get from an e-clip and it doesn't make sense to carry a nuclear power source to power a pistol when you can do more damage and have better range with a larger weapon.

The NE-4 hits for 1D4x10, which averages to 25.
5D6+6 averages to only 23.5.

Do you use the tmnt/atb/night bane particle beam rules with the standard hit is a "nic" and i think a 17 and higher is a solid hit? For all particle weapons?
