Need some help

Unread post by kaotic_drake »

So, come December I'm going to be running a Robotech campaign for the group I game with. I'm familiar with the Palladium system (been playing it for about three years now) and we've chosen to play in the era between the First War and the Second War. So I'm looking for some advice, I have access to all the Palladium books and a number of the novels. Any advice or information on what to focus on would be very helpful though.

What I know is that the Invid aren't a known threat yet. The Zentraedi are mostly in holdout groups, the EBSIS skirmishes with the UEEF (Or whatever they're called in this time period). I know that there are prototypes for Ground Veritech but they aren't mass produced yet. Other than that I don't know much. So anything you can inform me of beyond that would be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

Honestly, there ain't much going on in the gap between the first and second robotech wars. A lot of the material that used to cover that area isn't considered part of RT anymore (officially), and groups like EBSIS and large formations of rogue Zentradi don't exist (in official material).

The period between 2014 and 2029 is fairly peaceful, all told. The United Earth military put together the Expeditionary Forces in that time period, launching the SDF-3 in 2022, and the capital was transferred to Monument City, but otherwise it was mostly just rebuilding, some R&D for new mecha, etc. Beyond those bare details from the official timeline, that part of RT's history is kind of empty...

In practical terms, it's the best kind of empty... blank slate empty. Go nuts.

The period you are looking at is open to possibilities depending on what sources you are using and some of them can be conflicting in nature.

For example Novels/1E RPG have the VHT as a prototype during the 201x's, but in the 2E RPG the VHTs goes in service circa 2013 (IINM).

That is also a pretty big period (15years) you are looking at with a wide selection:
-deal with Space Pirates (mentioned in the series as existing)
-espionage
-brush conflicts (human vs human, they don't have to be always fighting aliens)
-the Pioneer Mission (or part of a precursor mission)

During that time the Southern Cross is being formed. I think it would be a fun campaign to have the players involved in its creation. The players could be test pilots for the brand new veritech tanks. Another one is to be sent to Mars to help rebuild the base there.

Well you don't need large numbers of angry Zentradi to have a few troublemaking aliens stirring up chaos.

Also I agree with having the various "fuedal kindoms" of survivors that don't agree with the UEG making trouble. Or even rogue UEG officials and officers.

Plus I figure they'd be carrying out the "Gloval initiative," colonizing new worlds as they seek to find ways to prevevent another extiction level event on ending humanity. Plenty of adventures to have there.

Thank you all so far for your contributions. They are stirring ideas for me for campaign and side missions alike.
Tying in Southern Cross and the rebuilding of the Mars base could be fun.
Also, I basically knew that there wasn't a whole lot going on in this time period. We've all agreed on starting with the Accelerated Training Program for the purpose of making myself and everyone playing more familiar with Robotech inside the Palladium system and Robotech in general.
With my group it's kind of hard (with the way they act and play) to play some sort of super Heroic main campaign set of missions. Mostly we end up doing a bunch of little quests and single set sessions (no mission lasts more than one session 90% of the time) because we have people with jobs that require lots of hours and often take them from our game sessions.

If anyone has any more input I'm more than open to it. Thank you again to those have provided ideas thus far.
