Could've been worse...Des might have gotten Detective Sledgehammer as a partner....
Desdemona: "I will EVISCERATE whoever assigns him to me even if I have to come through the Fourth Wall and barge into your workplace to kill you in front of multiple witnesses..."

Than the Sage among his Books,
For all the Empires and Kingdoms,
The Armies and Works that you hold Dear,
Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

James Bond's MALE partners don't last much longer...About the only one who survives is FBI agent Felix Leiter, and he gets his bride brutally murdered and himself badly maimed as the set up for License to Kill.

Ugliest Deaths? Death by buzzsaw yo-yo(Octopussy) and dropped head-first into the rotors of a hydroelectric plant(View to a Kill). Why can't the bad guys just SHOOT the poor SOBs?

And the other rule of James Bond's companions....if there are two named, beautiful, and young women appearing, one of them will die(50% chance of being an enemy agent/working for the other side).

And if Bond has sex with a woman in the first half of the movie...well, she's dead...

Leiter was the token Yank in authority that Bond DIDN'T bed....every other American he worked with was a woman.

Admiral Hayse surveyed the assembled representatives. Having delivered his report on the Macross island incident, he just had to wait for them to approve the formation of the UEDF and appoint him as it's head.

They reentered the room.

Chairman: "Congratulations! they've approved the formation of the UEDF. However it was decided that someone else will head up the organization."

Hayse: "WHAT!!! Who!?!"

Chairman: "Col. Striker, could you come in please."

Years later...

Vanessa: "Ok, I like the uniforms, but why do we have to wear these purple wigs?"

Before your time, embryo....Look up 'UFO' 'TV Series'.
It was one of the Gerry Anderson shows....he was the mastermind behind 'The Thunderbirds', 'Captain Scarlet' and 'Space 1999', so lots of incredible model work backing the live actors.
On the other hand, this WAS the '70s, and it was British, so the costumes tended to rather...well, out there....While Star Trek's Starfleet put women in short skirts, SHADO(Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization) put its female Moonbase operatives in what looked like silver mummy suits and HIDEOUS purple helmet-wigs.

Unnamed Officer: (With cap pulled down tight) "Mr. Bond, you've been reassigned to Mars. You leave immediately. This way please."

Only thing I've ever seen was the movie / pilot sadly... :-(
HOW-ev-AH, There's a couple of places that have the entire series in box-set DVD for around $30... I'm still debating.

The acting was stiff as rebar and the outfits were ridiculous, but as futurist sci-fi of the era was, it was groundbreaking. And the model work was the sex of the show(the Brits applying similar to such classics as the james Bond movies).

Apparently the Japanese liked it enough to do a manga version, UFO: 1988?

I've seen sketchwork for various advanced versions of the hardware seen in the original TV series, but I didn't think it actually got to full manga stage.
Beyond that, I think the Japanese are thoroughly saturated with their own stuff and their fixation on WW2 alternate whatif that I'm not surprised UFO didn't receive greater notoriety there.
