Elememtal Light Magic????

Unread post by drewkitty ~..~ »

What would be the core ideas (about what this magic type can do) with in this type of elemental magic, in you opinion?
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

Light can have a lot of varied uses, and it can be justified to be either energy or something solid. Some ideas for effects off the top of my head:
  • Illusions.
  • Single target and AoE blinds.
  • Medium to long-range single damaging attacks.
  • Ability to create true sunlight.
  • Enhance vision.
  • Melee energy (light) weapons.
  • Shields and armor.
  • Seeing into the future, or the past.

Whatwould it be opposed to?

Fire and Water are opposed to each other
Air and Earth are opposed to each other.

Light and ??? are opposed to each other.

Darkness/Shadow of course. Which seems like it would heavily overlap the Palladium Fantasy school of Shadow Magic.

Instead of "light and dark" you could tie it instead to "day and night" or "sun and stars."

Light also has the property of "warmth," and can also be associated with life and hope. Darkness/Shadow has the property of "cold," and can also be associated with death and fear.

Largely agree with Glistam; the original MoM manuscript included a Shadow Warlock as sort of a demi-cousin to the "True" Warlock.

There is already a shadow warlock in the Nightstands sourcebook for Nightbane.

True, but they're focused less on magic and more on the Nightbane Talents, and really get the short end of both sticks (in my opinion). An "Elemental" Shadow Warlock would (presumably) focus on actual magic that has a shadow-theme, similar to a school of magic that's described in Palladium Fantasy Book 12: Library of Bletherad (on page 78) called "Shadowcasting."

Didn't a shadow warlock get advertised for one of the books? Seems like I saw one mentioned outside of nightbane.

Rifter #20 has a "Shade Mage," which is sort of a Shadow Warlock but the O.C.C. likens them more to a witch than a warlock.

The Shadow Warlock from the Nightlands book is also reprinted and "updated" in Rifts: Conversion Book 3: Dark Conversions in the Nightbane section on pages 137-138. You may have seen it reprinted there too.

The Child of Stars R.C.C. from Rifts: England and the Guardian R.C.C. from Nightbane both have good examples of light-based powers.

apex-prey wrote:In the PW book the siliquet (I know I did not spell that right) is mentioned as being a quasi elemental being of dark they can even speak to elementals

Another light power could be the ability to glow/radiate light to verified intensities muht like the siliquet ability to absorb light to make it dark around them
Being impervious to vampires
Some sort of star fire blast
Maybe a few over laping spells from elemental air and fire

Not dissimilar from the Children of Light from Rifts England.

Yeah, pain to spell.
They know some magic.
And can be imperial guards on top of that.
