A (semi) canon pre-Shadow device dropship?

Unread post by Tim Wing »

So, you need a way to get an SF team to a planet's surface, but your campaign is happening prior to the advent of the Shadow Cloaking device? I've got yer answer! The Haydonite Shuttle, from the 1st edition RPG. (It was erroneously identified as a Perytonian Observation Shuttle.)

You mean Formerly-Canon pre-shadow device Shuttle.

The horizon-t is a pre-shadow device Drop ship.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

True.... but since the Haydonite shuttle is built by, well, the Haydonites, we can reasonably expect it to have a shadow device! So, epic win for REF/UEEF Rangers and Special Forces! Stealth insertion!

And for sneaking onto Earth too....just disguise it as a giant ice cream cone billboard... :P

But everyone will flock to it to find the store selling ice cream.

i would imagine that prior to the unveiling of shadowtech by Edward's breakaway UEEF faction, any haydonite devices either had their stealth features disabled or uninstalled. i would assume uninstalled, with the haydonite possibly even having custom built their public stuff to make it seem closer to the common sentinels techbase. this isthe only reason i can think of for how the UEEF could be unaware of haydonite advanced tech, and be surprised by edward's secret shadowtech weapon.

While we don't see what the range the Invid can subsist on naturally prior to the Stage5 , we know from Ariel/Marlene they can subsist on human foods. So yes, I would say that the Stage5 can for sure. Prior forms, its a bit more dicey, depends on what their full diet range is prior to Stage5, meaning are they overly specialized in what they eat, or are they more omni-vores who just have a very discriminating preference?

Even at Stage5 it is an unknown. They would first have to develop a lactose tolerance, a trait that did not even appear in humans till late in our evolutionary history.

the space shuttles from the 1st war would probably suffice for getting a strike team to the ground during the Invid Occupation....now getting them back off again could be an issue.
I know it is a little extreme to advocate the death penalty for stupidity...but can't we just remove all the warning labels and let nature take it's course???

So are you telling me every early evolutionary human child couldn't drink his mothers own milk? Children born now with a lactose intolerance or sensitivity can't so don't try any back pedaling to explain how they can drink the protein from their mother and wet nurses but no other animals.

no, but the ability to drink milk past the age of weaning is not a normal trait of mammals. with most mammals, once they get old enough to start eating solid food, their bodies gradually stop making the chemicals needed to break down lactose, and by adult hood they can no longer consume it safely.

humans are one of the few species that this does not occur, and paleoanthropology and genetic studies have shown that it is a trait we as a species seem to have picked up via mutation about 6000 years ago.

okay that I can agree with. I still wouldn't say it is exhibiting in increased mucus production in many more people than lactose intollerance.

I picture the scene of just before the final assault on the Main Invid Hive, the REF forces are gathered and poised to attack; the Invid weapons pointed at them starting to glow with charging energies; each side, the soldiers are tensed & ready to attack; The commanders of either side take a strong breath and start to form the attack-order, when --
(insert ice-cream-truck jingle here, fades in slowly then evens out at a steady but not overpowering level)
Both sides remain motionless at the sight, just at the edge of the battlefield, of a floating Haydonite Cargo Shuttle.

Both commanders look at each other, nod & announce;

"ICE CREAM BREAK!"

The forces of both sides break & rush the shuttle.

As the soldiers move off, both commanders call out "....and bring me back a Fudge Ripple!"
"Yes, I know I'm going to hell; I'm bringing marshmallows."
