Lang: "Please...it's a grand tradition of working in academia...the question of either helping the students or getting published.*"

*(I actually had a graduate school advisor who exemplified this; rather than explain to me...after I'd interrupted summer vacation to come back and get details clarified.... why and how I had to modify my class selection to meet the education course requirements, he point-blank told me he was too busy to help because he had an upcoming paper on 'lyonization in the state of (x)'. To this day I don't know if he ever got the paper published or what the hell lyonization is and what importance it had in that particular American state, only that he was an outright priorities-wrong unhelpful bastard. One got the impression he HATED teaching and just wanted to get into a particularly useless groove of overpaid academic pursuit)

Why do I get the feeling that is what most University and Collage professors are like that. I also don't like them because of all the anti-American stuff they seem to say, well, most of them anyways. ( Ya I know we aren't perfect, but compared to the rest of the world, we are head and shoulders above most places, IMO. )

the thing that really gets me is the academic vs technical divide.
in a lot of technical (aka practical) education knowing how to actually do and or look up the information is key. in academic MEMORIZING stuff you will likely never use again is a major part of the course.... At least that was my experience.

It wasn't the matter or manner of instruction that got me; it just seemed that I ran into an inordinate number of faculty who seemed to regard actually TEACHING and ADVISING to be a unpleasant and distracting secondary task to their REAL work, which was to better position themselves in a nebulous alternate universe of academia more akin to fantasy football than expanding the general database.

Tusk: “I mean lesbians, and implied lesbianism is hot. Especially when there are no other choices.”
Shinji: “Huh?”
Tusk: “Look at my own series. There are exactly three named males in it and none of them are, I admit, of much consequence. I’m a Kira Yamato clone who’s an absolute klutz even to the point of screwing up rescuing the damsel in distress, her father(points at Angelise) is so off-camera and ineffective as both a ruler and a parent that by the time it’s revealed he’s been executed. people have to be reminded he existed at all. Oh, and her brother is either a deep-fried bastard or a hollow shell being manipulated by evil aliens. Really, with those prospects, and the rampant fanservice, the attractive choice for the main characters is yuri.”
(Angelise blinks and gets a worried look on her face)
Shinji: “...that explains why Asuka and Rei have been avoiding me of late...”
Kentaro: “Be grateful you don’t have a tsundere...Ah, sorry, Shinji, you DO have a tsundere.”
Tusk: “Angelise has at least two. Salia and Hilda.”
(Angelise is starting to look like she wants to cry)
Haruka Ten’oh: “....come over to the Sapho side...we have cookies...”
“No hiiting up on classmates!”
“Sorry.”

Ryoko: "Which means you'll fit right in. Don't worry. I'll make sure those girls don't lay a hand on you."

Marie: "Oh, God, not AGAIN...LANGGGGG!!"
Lang: "I can't do anything...she has tenure. Besides, I don't know what she did. She's also the new Anime Science and Anime Technology class' teacher."

(While Ryoko and Ayeka are busy arguing...some of the local girls are already making their moves...)

Dana: "So...what's YOUR name?? (Twirling a bit of Tenchi's hair...)"
Tenchi: "Aaaahhh..."
Nova: "You're not ATTACHED to anyone, are you? (Showing a bit of cleavage)"
Rook: "He IS cute...."

Miriya: "Oh, I'm sure Dana can handle herself..."

Max and Miriya aren't helicopter or even gunship parents; they're fighter-bomber-battloid-mode parents.
