Not by Palladium there isn't .....at least not in the RPG (there are couple of variants but still essential the same PA in RRT) unles you mean the one other FPA which is in Macross II. Not worth taking IMO.
I am very opinionated. Yes I rub people the wrong way but at the end of the day I just enjoy good hard discussion and will gladly walk away agreeing to not agree :D

2d Edition FPA has +7 to auto dodge regardless of OCC and 2d ed Zentraedi Warlords get an additional +2 to auto dodge. Zentraedi Warrior Elite get H2H Commando, which also adds to auto dodge bonuses at 5th level and up. Plus 2d Ed has almost double the MDC as first, does TEN TIMES more damage with those chest guns and forearm weapons and much stronger in H2H combat. Aside the Power Armor Specialist's blanket "auto dodge" ability which could in theory surpass 2d edition's static bonuses, Id think that +7 auto dodge is good enough for me for double MDC and ten times the damage for the same suit. Although, weighing in at less than 300 MDC, there are better choices out there from either edition, especially for 40 foot targets.
I want to see from Palladium:

I don't dispute that 2E has advantages over the 1E version in some areas, but 1E does have its own set of advantages over the 2E version (namely speed, SRMS instead of mini-missiles). 1E's speed means it will be able to determine the engagement range most if not all the time (few if any PA exist that can fly in atmosphere that fast) and can favor its 126 Short Range missiles (which again is something most Rifts PA don't utilize much of, favoring mini-missiles). 2E is no slouch in terms of speed, but its advantage compared to other PA isn't as great in an atmosphere (space is another matter). The speed also means it can be much harder to target off setting the lighter armor and guns. If the two attacks for living is added into 1E pilot (IIRC it is mentioned in the main book somewhere, both Rifts MB and RT 1E ), then the 1E pilot will have even more attacks available (1st level FPA had +3 attacks from MCE, which taken together gives a pilot 7-8 attacks per melee, otherwise its 5-6) giving them greater opportunities to dodge and/or attack.

That is why I favor the 1E over the 2E for this.

Yeah, I just noticed that about the SRMs. But those "minis" are 105mm, hardly "mini"; LOL. But the damage and range are clearly printed, making the 1st Ed FPA superior with 1st Ed SRMs than 2d Ed FMP with 2d Ed minis. Either way, that Silverhawk will take out both in less than 1 melee round, and only come up to either's knees.

Now...if we are modifying these FPA and assuming this is a Megaversal project, we have access to Techno Wizardry and advanced Rifts/PW materials like Naruni Thermo-Kinetic armor and Force Fields. Replacing the intentionally weak Tirolian designed armor with TK armor, or GB armor plating would increase the MDC into the thousands and provide debuffing effects vs heat/kinetic or laser energy. Perhaps the armor, especially the GB armor, would reduce speed of the FPA, or even negate some of the auto dodge bonuses, but that might be a better trade off. Also, mounting a Boom Gun or two (or a CAN VX-20 Super Cannon) somewhere on there (like a hand held rifle?) would significantly increase firepower and range for both versions; staying true to the term "power armor", but utilizing robot sized weapons for a 40 foot giant.

Regardless of the listed diameter of the missile, it's performance is still classified as "mini".

I'm avoiding specific references to customization as much as possible since what is reasonable can vary from person to person. The ability of the ZFPA to carry and utilize giant robot weapons as opposed to PA weapons also gives it an edge. Nothing else the ZFPA can sit on most targets and be to heavy to lift (40plus tons), and those targets could be pinned in place (its questionable if it would be a good idea to fire missiles or other weapons in this situation).

For a Silverhawk to engage a 1E ZFPA it would have to get in range (those pesky SRMs again), because it can't outrun it (in atmosphere, in space 1E would be slower). Against a 2E ZFPA the speed would be reversed (Mach 15 in space), but its also forced to fight w/n the Silverhawks weapon range for a decent amount of distance so the Silverhawk stands a better chance here.

Must have been a typo

Also it was a joke, just thumbing the nose a bit at PB for their "obvious to everyone else in the world except them " favourtism they have towards the CS.

Which book is that? That Tolkien war story line ? I think I've read like 1 or 2 of those. They bored the heck out of me, I own all of them so I will eventually get around to reading them but nowhere in the near future.

I don't really go for meta plot in my games so it's not something that really affects my game universe. I don't normally use any of the NPCs provided in the book either, with some exceptions of course.
