Its Chaos Earth, people need to live somewhere, but where.
Where would you choose to settle in Chaos Earth. Factors include weather, temperature, hostiles (theoretical for the most part right now), and ect. Assume for the time being, that locations are limited to North America.
I would have to say Texas.

I would have to say that I am keeping my happy butt right where it is. Southern Minnesota, below what is to become Tolkeen.

Not going to try to go further south?
Texas was my best North American answer. If it had been anywhere on the planet. I would have said South America or Australia.

Maybe as far south as Kansas. Wouldn't go much further than that. If I had another choice, I would say inland Maine.

I was thinking south for more warmth but in the event of a global cooling, would that matter?

If there was massive enough global cooling, you would have to go to the equatorial line to find a place warm enough to grow crops. A good movie for this is "The Day After Tomorrow". It shows the start of a new Ice Age.

I would try and make the 30-40 drive west from where I live to what would soon become known as Lazlo. See if there is some kind of NEMA outpost I could hide out in.

I would stay nomadic, constantly on the move. Trying to keep more to the new wilderness as possible. Hiding in no place more then aweek and that is even pushing it.

The problem with that is that you're never familiar with the area you're in or what threats you might have to face. You never know if you'll be able to find food or shelter or where to run to if something's after you, unlike someone who establishes a location to settle into.

Except your forgetting that with ley lines and nexus points throwing the earth into total chaos, even an area you thought you know could be a totally alien land scape. You would have to use scouting and other skills to make sure your as safe as possible, but my guess is there is no real safe place. Even if you lived in a secured military base, some demon or mage creature who could open a dimensional portal is in before you could even grab your rifles. Remember most people still did not believe in magic as anything other than a trick. The advantage of moving around is your not. Reliant on some resource that could be gone with one quick rifts storm.

Well I think the orbital community would have the best chance, however even they have issues and challanges that they would have to face, especially when personel are offing themselves right after the event. but it would likely be a better place to live than on the ground for the first decade or two.

Mass suicide, alien invasion, lack of supplies, and harsh authoritarian rule - orbital community would suck after the flash. The only place that would suck worse is everywhere on Earth. Even isolated and well defended places like the New Navy base and Tritonia would still be way more dangerous.
Have to say I don't think it would be better for decades, more like centuries.

I doubt Rifts earth is ever considered really safe again, even after the centuries have passed. Even the orbital communities will nevr be truely safe. however if something turely bad happens you will not die from suffication from the lack of oxigen.

I'd settle in California. Generally a temperate climate. Fishing possibilities. If in Northern California, mountains and hills for the rising tides. And with the many islands that I am sure to pop up in the San Francisco Area, potentially safe (yet not escapable) area. Too bad the mothball fleet will have been dismantled by then, the floating caravans would be gone.

Chaos Earth doesn't have a perfect location. But most likely your going to be in one of two general areas.
Somewhere around the Grand Canyon if out West, or somewhere around the Great Lakes if further East.
At that point, I would say make sure your camping Gear is up to snuff.....

Didn't think of this, but yeah, soon as Psyscape gets established it's probably the closest thing to Paradise around. Never was detailed enough. I'd like it if an author would consult "Between the Shadows" and design it via the proper domain rules, like we know how secure it is against the rest, if it exists in Outer or Inner Plane (my guess is Inner, coexisting on an Astral Plane Nexus in addition to Real World, thus the Psi-Nex), if it has features like free food/electricity, etc.Psionycx wrote:The psychics will eventually be drawn en masse to the Ohio Valley to found Psyscape.
Future Psyscape sourcebook should be called "Psi-World" after what Erin Tarn called it in RMB. Especially since the "city" of Psyscape (Earth-size) may actually be bigger on the inside than the outside (Astral-size) much like the City of Brass is.

Tri-state Tn, Ga, Al for me. No fault lines there, and the woods there are where I grew up. Did a lot of camping from horseback in the lower Appalachians, and unless I get caught up in a fade, then I'll be just fine. And, the Birmingham area is the future home of Golden Age Weaponsmiths.
There was no Chaos Earth category, so I got stuck with a Chromium Guardsman, er, Glitterboy... <.<

I would say find a mine and work on closing it up with a shack on the front, quakes might make a mine shaft a little unstable for a few weeks. we know from rifter 69 that they are going into a mild nukwinter of some kind. the coasts are toast with tidal waves how are inland we don't know yet.

Would a mine shaft be really needed. Is there that much ley line activity in Alaska? (I have never thought to look.)

a mine is temp stable and easy to defend. also thinking about turning some of the mine into a green house.

I'd wanna be in Germany
Or better yet, a specific few cities in Japan ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/wink.gif)
US-only, though... hm... I think Michigan or such. Maybe Minnesota, or Maine. I want a place with enough wilderness that hunting or fishing is a possibility. Yeeea, probably Great Lakes region.
Something like a mine shaft or similar is fine for surviving disasters and storms, but long-term, food is an issue.
I don't think so, but even if the number of threats happens to be low, I'd be worried about lack of industry and such.
I'd suspect some Russian demons would come over.

If we are touching on non-US sights, there is that island that Japan built for mining purposes, developed a city etc, but eventually the island was abandoned when the mining was no long cost worthy. Might have some spirit problems though I suppose.

If that's the place I'm thinking of (Hashima), then yea, for reasons of spirit infestation I am not getting within miles of it!
Well, that, and no food there. I don't think you can even fish well from it.

Well you would have birds. Could grow food. Lastly, you could head out in boats and fish from the island. Yeah though, spirits would could be a problem with an empty deteriorating city. Don't forgot cyclones and tsunamis... I retract the idea. LOL.

Birds are unlikely to be in enough number to live on, and crops require a full season at least- plus I doubt there's much good land there at all.
While there are some islands that may be good, that would not be one of them ^^
I kinda wonder how Hawaii would be... as long as one was well above sea level when things hit, it's relatively self-sufficient, has lots of ports to fish from, and such...

Reno/Tahoe area. Plentiful water supply, native wildlife for food, stable weather patterns. It wouldn't be high on a list of potential targets in case a war does break out.

Los Alamo near Austin Texas.

I would say best places would be the new navy or tritonia. We know they survived not only directly post fall but all the way to current day. They have similar advantages very high end golden age tech and mobile/semi mobile. When things get bad they can at least move to avoid it other than the hidden bases from the new navy but apparently wherever those are built they are pretty darn hidden as they seem other than I think one still intact.
Long run upper michigan would be a good choice as its pretty low magic wise/ley line/nexus level but directly post super volcano blowing up rifts popping off the UP is going to be pretty unlivable climate wise. Their winters at best are harsh but post super volcano I can only picture them as epic.

I disagree with Australia being safe. It isn't safe now, what makes you think it won't kill you ten times as hard after the rifts come?

Probably depends where in Australia both of the big tech cities are golden age relics that were I believe continually inhabited. If you can stomach living in a police state they appeared to weather the devastation pretty well.
