Yggdrasil clarification

Unread post by barna10 »

OK, seen posts about this and one thing is not clarified: Does the gift of knowledge give you the ability to create wards / circles?

Odin is specifically listed as being a 20th level LLW, Diabolist, Summoner, Temporal Wizard, and Necromancer, It is stated that he gained all of these from the World Tree, but then, under magic knowledge the book says:
Knows ALL spell magic of all levels, including spells of legend, temporal magic, circles, wards and rune magic (which he never shares). He also knows all Necromantic spells described in Rifts Africa, but does not have a Necromancer's special powers and tries to avoid using this dark magic.

So, he specifically didn't get the Necromancer O.C.C. abilities, but did get Diabolist and Summoner abilities?

How have you handled this in your games?

Don't let chars with such abilities into any game of mine. Not even as NPCs.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.
Reading and writing (literacy) is how people on BBS interact.

Odin is a (very technical term here) "Special Snowflake"
As a god (and an all-father level one at that) his results from the ritual are different than what other people would get.
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

I say you get the abilities listed.

Abilities listed where? For Odin or in the Gift of Knowledge?

To avoid other All-Fathers doing this and expecting abilities I'd like to think Odin is the specialist snowflake so nobody else can ever get what he got and only gets what's listed under the tree.
