Armor Of Ithan AR?
Is the AR Natural or normal?
The entire experiment may ultimately not work. But as Tiger Woods tears into the springbok, his mouth crimson with blood, he looks to have all the makings of a natural-born killer.

Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
Considering there is MDC armor with AR in Rifts (cyber-armor in the core book, NGR clothes) I'm surprised they didn't retain the AR for this spell in Rifts, would've made things interesting.

Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
The AR of the AoI spell (in SDC settings) is normal AR. Beat the AR hurt the person inside.

Unfortunately yes, it has an AR and can be bypassed.
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
Still AR: 18 makes it fairly good. Though IIRC bonuses to strike are fairly easy to come by in HU2.

Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
Sadly strike bonuses are VERY easy to get.
Making AR really easy to make pointless, especially in HU.

Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
I solve this by having if they roll past the A.R. of the Armor of Ithan, they
automatically hit the armor the player character is wearing (taking out its S.D.C. first
and regardles what its A.R. might be) unless the strike roll is an unmodified 20 (then it
beats both A.R.). I also suppose you could make one d20 for the Armor of Ithan and if
you by-pass it you roll again for the armor they're wearing, perhaps with some kind of
penalty (-1 to -3). Just ideas for thought.

Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
Making dodge rolls into strike penalties (so even if you fail your dodge, it still helps the attack hit your armor) could fix this.
Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
Blech. No need to rewrite the combat system. It's complicated enough as it is.

Yeah, AR is regular with this spell.
That being said, One of my common House Rules is to make it NAR in the HU setting. Since strike bonuses are so easy to get, doubly so in HU, it still becomes a useful spell.
17 and under, bounces off the 'force field' so to speak; 18 and up, stressed the field and starts to crack it. And yes, I also commonly have some sort of visual effect, just to make it more cinematic. Hey, it's superheroes, it's supposed to be flashy.

Doesn't the spell description say that AoI appears as some sort of Translucent archaic Plate armor with specific look determined by the caster?

As some may know my personal house rule is to make the natural die roll (with only certain additions) determine if you bypass armor. Suddenly all those nAR 12 bonuses are a heck of a lot more impressive.
And yes, I know its a total rewrite of the rule. That is what the rule zero was invented for. To make the game work for my table. *shrugs* Other peoples mileage may vary, but it has worked well enough for me.

In the few times I have considered Running HU or PF I have thought about doing something similar. I may test out that rule in my NB game that I am gearing up to run.

No HU Revised 2nd Edition just says, "This powerful spell instantly creates an invisible, weightless, noiseless, full suit of mystic armor on the spell caster."

Ah I must be thinking of the Rifts version. That or I am thinking of the Nightbane Spell Magic Armor.

Rifts is the same Armor of Ithan as Heroes and the Nightbane Mystic Armor says the same as well with just a different name.

Re: Armor Of Ithan AR?
I think if I'm wearing something with AR 18 I'll probably avoid parrying or dodging and simply do simultaneous attacks because anything able to surpass my AR and hurt me (strike 19+) is probably going to be very difficult to parry or dodge anyway and a waste of a defense, better to deprive the enemy of a defense instead.
