Horizont V bunkers/pods capacity

Unread post by Sparticus »

So I have been building a Horizont V from the ground up (not very hard) when I come to something that gives me a little trouble. The two bunkers/pods actual capacity for troops and or mecha. The numbers given me confuse me in the way they are worded under the Horizont T in the hardback book. Can the bunkers carry 96 troops combined or 96 troops each? I went back to my first addition books with the Horizont T in it because the bunker/pod is essentially the same, but the wording is somewhat confusing there to.

Also I am trying to decide if the new ship can carry more troops internally than the older one. I saw in the Art of the Shadow Chronicles that the crew capacity for the Horizont V is 8 crew to operate and as many as 42 troops carried internal, this is separate from the two bunkers/pods. I would imagen that the newer ship can carry more troops as it has no Alpha/Beta and was designed for such I guess but seeing as it’s not that much larger or deferent I am trying to see where it would fit 42 as opposed to 12.

Any help would be awesome.

given the size of the bunkers is comparable to modern wide body jets or the smaller military transports, 96 each when configured for troops (and their basic gear) would be reasonable. a Horizont is effectively strapping two C-130's under it's wings.

though that would likely look rather like a mix between this: https://www.army.mil/e2/c/images/2014/1 ... /size0.jpg
and this: http://www.robotechresearch.com/picture ... _large.jpg

The one Rand explored right before he met scott seems to have been configured for cargo..

the Horizon-V seems to be bigger than the -T, but the pods look to be similar sized. in fact, they appear to be the same pods. i would assume the Horizon-V is the "super" equivalent of the -T.. with better drives and systems, but doing the same role. given the design, it looks like the -V has better atmospheric flight capability, and greater thrust.

and as for where they would store the extra troops outside the pods? well without the Alpha-Beta docking stuff, that is a lot of room to fit in more seats and lockers for cyclones. and since they moved the engines to pods on the wings rather than at the aft of the main body, there is even more room. the rear fuselage of the -Vappears to be roughly half the volume of one of it's pods, so that is more than enough room for 42 guys and their gear.

presumably the dropping of the parasite fighters was due to it having shadow devices to sneak around more.. and the extra onboard troops are to help secure the landing site better once it is down.
