Only ONE Super-Psionic

Unread post by Glistam »

If you had a character in a modern-day setting who could choose several sensitive psionics (only from the sensitive category, none of the other categories) and just ONE super-psionic power, which super psionic power would you choose and why?

Is this setting one where other people have psychic powers, and such?
Are there super-heroes, monsters, or other stuff?
Or is it one where the character is the only psychic on the planet?

If as in the real world of now: TK(S) or Telemechanics.
To do stuff with it.

Edit: stuff to make a living.

It's the standard Heroes Unlimited/ Armageddon Unlimited setting.

:ok:

Telemechanics is a pretty good catch-all power, although it depends on how your GM interprets it.

My answer to this depends on how much ISP there is for using them. I'm not going to pick a 30 ISP power if I only have 20, for example. Can you supply this info first OP?

"Several is a number between 5-10.

I.S.P. is between 60 and 100.

I can't be more specific because of spoilers.

Then my choices would be;
Object Read, Mimic Skills, Speed Reading, Total Recall, Telekinesis Super.

Empathic Transmission.

Has a very low ISP cost (only 6) for a Super Psionic, and allows you to manipulate everyone you come across. And it doesn't even require spoken words like Hypnotic Suggestion.

You can stop a fight before it starts. Or have a 50% chance of making someone surrender. Or give them a -3 to S/P/D and lose initiative. Or give them a 66% chance of fleeing... you get the idea.

This is, of course, considerably more useful to a someone with a selfish or evil alignment. Especially the "trust" option.

What about powers like Astral Transference which have a prerequisite?

Nothing that has a prerequisite.

You did say I could choose several sensitive psionics, that could easily cover the prereq of astral projection or dreamdance minor.

After much thought on this I have finally come up with my answer.

Minor Sensitive Powers (10)
1 See Aura
2 Sixth Sense
3 Intuitive Combat
4 Telepathy
5 Astral Projection
6 Clairvoyance
7 Remote Viewing
8 Machine Ghost
9 Dream-Dance (Minor)
10 Object Read

Singular Super Psionic power (1)
Mind Block Auto-Defense

Reasons why
1) It gives me a rounded set of sensitive powers that provide protection both physical and psychic, since if I have powers I presume others will and I can not assume that all psi's and people and organizations that know about them will be benevolent.
2) They are also useful in many different jobs (openly and otherwise).
3) They provide for a wide range of personal activities and hobbies.
4) They are not so powerful or dangerous as to make me stand out as a threat. Thus making it more likely that I can slip below the radar and live a nice quite life with out people trying to kill me or co-opt me or the like. Adventure is not nearly as fun in real life as in games, and I have had more than enough of it already so I would like to minimize the risks of needing to have more.
5) An addition to #4 is that I also do not wish to become a threat to my friends and family. The possession of highly desired and/or feared and/or rare abilities could lead to them being placed in jeopardy to use as lever to make me comply with the demands of others.
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

Does this include Nightbane's Sensitive category? :)

I am assuming it does not included Nightbane, BTS2 or ATB, since the ONE Super-Psionic stipulation would imply that using those books to sneak around to make normally Super psi into minor psi is a nay-nay.

I've personally been thinking of one of the mind-reading powers as the super-psionic - either the one from Powers Unlimited 1 or the one from Beyond the Supernatural 2 (as a super).
