Techno-Wizard device help

Unread post by WyvernWarrior »

Ok so my question is kind of a simple one. is it possible to add onto a TW item even after its intitial creation?

Ex:
say i had a sword with the spells "power weapon", "speed weapon" built into it with techno-wizard magic. would it be possible to add the spell "spinning blades" on it at a later time?

this is more of an "ask your GM" question, because it is not really specified. since that doesn't likely help much, i'll also add how i as a GM would handle it.

i would expect simply modifying an existing function would require you to salvage the existing device more or less. adding an entirely separate function i would expect should be fine.

so, for example, if you have a suit of body armour with a TW forcefield that you want to add life support functions to, no problem (unless it's tied to the forcefield specifically). if you want to make that forcefield also able to bounce projectiles back at your enemies, i'd expect you're essentially talking about designing a new device; you could use the parts from the first one, but you're not going to be able to use the forcefield function while you're working on it and it may not work properly if the whole thing doesn't work out, even at the basic level it worked at before you tried to modify it.

so, if you want your power weapon and speed weapon enchantments to work together with the spinning blades in any way, i'd require you to modify a function (or, alternately, add an additional function with either of those required in the spell chain, which would be another way to keep the existing functions intact - obviously requiring its own parts, gems, etc). if you want an entirely separate mode of operation that uses only spinning blades, you could do that, though.

You should be able to add new features to an existing TW item. Say, for your Armor, you started with Armor of Ithan and Simple Invisibility (as a TW starts with Armor that has alrady been TW modified). If you want to later add Impervious to Energy, you can (up to the limit of TW enhancements, which i think is 4?)

Modifying an existing TW modification would probably require simply starting over.
Im loving the Foes list; it's the only thing keeping me from tearing out my eyes from the dumb.
