tricks to get XP without risking your body
I remember you didn't get XP from stuff Multiple Selves did (which always seemed odd since you got the memories of the clones... I can understand not getting them right away but it seems like you ought to get it once you re-absorb them...) and was wondering a way around that...
if a mutant had Multiple Selves + Possession and they inhabited one of their clones that should let them get XP for what that body does, right?

That is a solid "maybe"
It could go both ways honestly.
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

I wonder if words like ought and should might not be less than useful for discussing edge-cases, in that they potentially frame a given argument as ethical instead of whether it is in keeping with genre convention.
Outside of a game, if I wanted to show a duplicating superhero as honing their skills via proxy, I'd be interested in using their actions to help differentiate them a bit. When Marvel's Multiple Man absorbed a dupe, he didn't get stronger, or better at making more duplicates, but he sometimes picked up something in which the dupe had trained. I'd consider emulating this with additional Secondary skills, provided the character keeps the dupe separate for most of the last level.

You'd still be only getting XP for what you're doing, not what the clone is doing.

We can probably just ignore Multiple Selves:
a better question is: do you get XP for what you do while inhabiting others' bodies via the Possession super ability or the Mentally Possess Others super psi.

I can see three dupes taking different college programs....another in the army....another a cop and so on.

This discussion reminds me of an idea Cartman had on an episode of South Park when he came up with an idea to gain XP when playing World of Warcraft. If you haven't seen it yet, here's a short clip of that episode. If you don't like the show, don't bother watching because it's classic South Park shenanigans! Hahaha
