Heal Wounds

Unread post by Veknironth »

Well, The description for this spell in the book states that it heals 1d6 HP and 3d6 SDC. So, if you’re down to 10 SDC and have no HP damage (because SDC is just extra HP) does it only heal 3d6 and the 1d6 HP is wasted? Or does it heal 4d6 SDC? Conversely, if you’re down to HP does it heal HP and SDC, or just 4d6 HP?

SDC and HP are related, but different, stats.

Overhealing on one stat does not transfer to the other.

If you are down to HPs you will then have both HP damage and a positive current SDC.

It works exactly like it seems to work by what it says.

if you have:

10/20 HP and 0/30 SDC, it restores 1d6 HP and, seperately, 3d6 SDC.

If you have 20/20 HP and 0/30 SDC: it heals 1d6 HP and 3D6 SDC. You have full HP already, so the 1d6 is wasted.

you get hit by something that does damage direct to HP and have 10/20 HP and 30/30 SDC

you heal 1d6 HP and 3d6 SDC. HP is not SDC, so the 3d6 SDC is wasted.

One does not roll over into the other going either way.

Yes, this does limit the usefulness.

Yes, this means you often need to cast it multiple time.

Weather or not this is a good design decision is open to interpretation, but the design is exactly what it says it is: you always heal exactly 1d6 HP and 3d6 SDC, and if one hits full first the extra is just wasted.

You can have something done good, fast and cheap. If you want it done good and fast, it's not going to be cheap. If you want it done fast and cheap it won't be good. If you want something done good and cheap it won't be done fast. ~ Dark Brandon

It's a crap spell with crap healing per action and per PPE, but it's not the worst heal spell in the game.

Heal wounds is instant cast, Level 5, 10PPE, 3D6 SDC and 1D6 HP at a 3' range and can target anyone. May be used in combat like any other invocation.

Heal Self is a level 7 spell. It does identical healing (3D6/1D6) at Double the cost (20PPE) and has a one minute concentration time per casting, precluding all other actions during that time. Not recommended for combat. (4 full melee round cast time, no other actions possible) Can only be used on self.

Be happy you get the 1D6, life could be worse.
