Gryphons in Palladium Fantasy as apposed to Rifts Earth...

Unread post by SirSpamHammer »

Do gryphons have Super-Natural Physical Strength in Palladium Fantasy?

They do in Rifts but the book doesn't mention it in Palladium Fantasy?

My guess would be "No", based on there being no mention of that in the Monsters and Animals book (the 2E version) on page 99-100. There is mention that they are magical creatures and the increased amount of magic on Rifts earth makes them more powerful there. This is the last piece of the gryphon entry in that book on page 100.

Rifts® Notes: Wild gryphons are rare on Rifts Earth, but are domesticated, raised, and sold by the Splugorth of Atlantis. The additional magic energy of Earth turns the creature into a light mega-damage animal with 6D6+50 M.D.C., inflicts mega-damage from its attacks and the adult has five attacks per melee.

Yet, according to the player who asked me about this...

"f you look in the dragons and gods book, the gods in there the book doesn't specify that they have SN PS. I know there's no way gods don't have SN PS."

According to the PF2: Monsters and animals book page 99, no they are not listed as having Supernatural PS, nor SNPE.

But what you have to remember is that the world of the PF books is a 'Low Magic' world. Where Rifts Earth is a high magic world. So there would be differences in monsters stats between the two worlds. (and that PB had to make the gryphons SNPS and to make them MDC to fit into the MD/MDC of the monsters there so they would actually pose a threat to the characters the players are running.)
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

There is no indication in Monsters & Animals that gryphons have supernatural strength. They are described as just "animals". It doesn't actually say they are magical creatures at all.

Dragons & Gods, page 86: "The strength of gods are automatically supernatural".

Are gryphons as powerful as dragons and deities? If gryphons should have SN PS, then what about the pegasus which is a similar size flying magical creature? Where do you stop with the logic of "if X has it, then Y must have it also"?

By the book, they don't have it. If you wish to do something else in your game, that is totally up to you. And if they don't have it in your game, then your player needs to accept that.

Gods are supernatural beings.
All supernatural beings have supernatural strength.

Gryphons are not supernatural beings.
They do not seem to even be creatures of magic.
If the book only describes them as animals, then that’s all they are.
