See Aura VS Mind Block

Unread post by Veknironth »

Well let's take a moment to decide on one more Palladium editing error. The description for See Aura says that the power can be stopped by Mind Block. But under Mind Block it lists the abilities which can be blocked but See Aura is not one of them. So which is it?

As the particular powers description says mid block stops it from working, i would go with that.

Kiralon is correct. Where the two instances exist, I'd always go with what is expressly written (i.e. a power does X) over what is inferred (i.e. a power is missing from a list).

I would go with the See Aura text.

There is nothing in the Mind Block power (PF2E printing I have) that specifically states its status with the creature's actual aura so there is less of an actual conflict (ie MB and SA have statements in direct conflict) and more of a conflict of omission (as MB doesn't consider the aura at all).

I would add that MB text can be interpreted to include the subject's aura, or at the very least aspects of it, given it closes one off to the supernatural/psychic abilities both ways. The (various) text(s taken together) could indicate then that one's aura could be viewed as either supernatural in nature (lets face it is) and/or psychically generated.

I'd compromise: You get some information through a mind block, but not nearly as much. I'd say that See Aura against a mind block would give you

*General level of experience
*Presence of psychic abilities

I think presence of psychic abilities is kind of a gimmee... mind block doesn't make you invisible, but it does prevent someone from reading you psychically... but it's still a psychic power creating the defense. Seeing a smoke bomb doesn't tell you what's inside the smoke, but it does tell you that someone set off a smoke bomb. The level of experience would come from how the defense itself looks; trying to overcome Psylocke's Mind Block should look substantially different than trying to overcome Phoenix's. You won't necessarily know WHY, but it's easier to break into Fort Knox than it is to storm the gates of Heaven.
