The Bazaar #70: Resource Review (Masterpieces of Fantasy Art)

Unread post by desrocfc »

Evocative imagery, immersive paintings, sparks of the imagination. I present for Players and GMs alike a great book that spotlights some of the more influential artists to sci-fi/fantasy art, and the history that got us to where we are. This is a fantastic book, one I highly recommend to any fan of genre art or looking for inspiration. Loads of images to browse on this post, hundreds more in the book; come join me down the rabbit hole.

So which artist was your biggest influence? Have you ever drawn from genre art for adventure ideas?

The Armies and Works that you hold Dear,
Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

Those are some solid artists with a great range. I was particularly captivated by Chris Foss; did not know about him, thanks for the receommendation!

Syd Mead...How could I not mention Syd Mead.
I only have two of his books(which tend to be expensive as hell) but they're great.

Masume Shirow, back in the day before he lost his mind/studio and went into bad porn. His mechanicals looked halfway plausible.
