I was re-reading my collection and was reminded how useful a Chun Tzu or Nei Chia Wu Shih can be to a 1e BTS confrontation. They start with saving throw bonuses against horror and possession. A 1st level Gui Long fencer with Enlightenment Strike could force out a possessing entity in one round with no save, as opposed to the 36+ minutes a psychic healer required. If they were Nei Chia they might be able to follow up with the ceremony of unction or fulfilling of the vow to prevent reentry.
A fighter could use Ba Gua or Shao Lin's Yin-Yang Chi kata or Gui Long to damage incorporeal beings, comparing favorably to 2e Ghost Hunters and Mediums. Other useful powers include horror factor bonuses from Control Revulsion or Sung Chi, and the supernatural attacks Radiate Positive Chi or Chi Ball.

Outsourcing to Mystic China
As seen in Rifter 20
Called "disturbing" by Therumancer.
Was informed that "Recommending the destruction of a third of the nation is not appropriate."

They would likely be better suited to being in Nightbane to be honest.
Same goes for Ninjas and Superspies which was the world Pre-Dark Day, at least in my head.

I tend to combine BTS with NB and NSS/MC into one setting.

Darkness is eternal. And so am I.

Re: Outsourcing to Mystic China
Although they do get bonuses, I wouldn't say that a +2 vs. possession & +1 vs. HF is OP.Sir Neil wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 4:13 pm I was re-reading my collection and was reminded how useful a Chun Tzu or Nei Chia Wu Shih can be to a 1e BTS confrontation. As for the mudra...well, don't forget that it takes time for the mudra to be activated, they generally require available Chi points to activate, & you have to have both hands available to be in the required position. Also, the Mudra of Fulfilling the Vow specifically deals with entities of "pure negative Chi". Chinese demons aren't the same as Western demonic entities, nor are Chinese ghosts, & the "Infernal entities" it refers to are those affiliated specifically with the Yama King courts (with their descriptions starting on p. 134). Not sure that a traditional possessing entity would be affected by that.
As for the Enlightenment Strike, that's going to be a risky move. Since it says you push "palms" towards someone's face, that means you can't use it with a weapon. And it uses all of your melee actions to do it, & you have to already be within striking distance of the victim. So yeah, it'll work...but it's not going to be as easy to pull off.

I don't think the MC OCCs are overpowered; differently powered, certainly. The PCCs work well for a BTS game for focused on the mysticism and not the horror aspects. Though they'd work in horror, too. The martial arts OCCs would work just fine in a splatterpunk or action horror game.
I think you can mix the two without a problem.

Having combined NSS/MC with BTS2 and NB I haven't noticed any power issues. Even when mixing the 3.

Darkness is eternal. And so am I.
