I've always had a problem with palladium books not providing illustrations of the medals and awards available from the CS military(army, navy, airforce, coast guard, even merchant marines)/government. There are several formal regulations that govern the awarding of :
1.medals
2.ribbons
3.ribbon devices http://www.homeofheroes.com/medals/ribb ... vices.html
4. Imperial Unit citations (we call'em presidential unit citations, but this is the CS) and Unit Citations
http://www.homeofheroes.com/medals/ribb ... _unit.html
5. shoulder cords http://www.infantrymen.net/cordsandaguilettes.html
6. Sword and scabbard (for officers)
7. Chevrons and service stripes (for enlisted)
8. dress uniforms (officers and enlisted)
9. officer rank insig. and Warrant Officers insig.
10. Qualification Badges
Does any one else think about this? To me it adds a lot more color and incentive, even though the coalition service member mat not even realize that what they are doing can Warrant an award.
I know that there are some descriptions in CS War Campaghn, but to me that aint enough. So take a look at the sights and let's see if our artists can come up with any ideas. Remember that the Ribbon must correspond with the ribbon that the medal hangs from and there is an order to the hierarcy of ribbons and medals. I think that you guys may have fun with it. I can't draw, other wise I would, sorry.
SO what do y'all say?

Don't forget about Challenge Coins (or Tokens). Those make great awards as well.

Coins are 'Attaboy's' You did something well, but it wasn't extraordinary. I have more medals than I do coins. People see medals on your uniform and they think, 'Wow, he really did something to deserve that.' They see a coin and they ask, 'What did you do to earn that?' You tell them and all they say is, 'I could have done that.'
Coins are nice, but it's medals that get you respect.

Being someone that has been in the US Navy, and the US Army; I have this to say. Supposedly the Navy wears their chevrons differently from the rest of the armed forces (Does the Air Force have Chevrons? They look like a bunch of squiggly lines to me) because they have never lost a battle in the history of their existence.
I don't know if this is true or not. I do know that the Army is much nicer to me than the Navy is. So F***K the squids, as far as I am concerned.

I know there's the Chi-Town War College, and I'm willing to bet there's a version of West Point located in the Fortress City of Chi-Town. Free Quebec would definitely have its own since it has always got to be the thorn in Prosek's butt. The Air Force's academy would probably be in an area where they can fly around ALOT...so bet on Missouri or CS Chi-Town somewhere in the wilderness. The Navy would have its academy in Free Quebec. Any other ideas?

I guess that challenege coins really aren't all that important, but they are nice to have, even I have a couple .... now where are they?
I'm also thinking, does the CS have military academys? What do you think?
Yea its inside Chi-Town, it says so IN CWC =)

I was thinking that that would be the case. But a war college is something different from an academy. A war college is an institution for senior officers of the military (and even a few forigin countrys) to attend to advance their knowledge in war fighting, among other things. A military academy is a military college for young people to attend for (on this earth) four years, wherein they obtain their college education, live a highly discplined military environment that spits out the failures and produces outstanding leaders who take their place as 2nd Lieutenants/Ensigns.
So, is any one interested in the artist portion of this board? I was thinking that we could do it one at a time, say, start with the highest award and work on down. We would then, after medals, ribbons, and imperial unit citations, move on to ribbon devices, then qualification badges, and after all that, officer insignia, then enlisted cheverons, and lastly service hash marks. Each branch has it's own insigs/chevs, medal designs (save a few) and qual badges.
A poll would then be taken on the desighns, and vote would determine the winner (who gets a little gold golem on a little pedesta; the Golly, is you will). All artists would be told, "hey hang on to your desighn, when we get it all finished you guys should send a group submission to the Rifter." Well, a little complex, but I think that it could be done if we had any takers; it never hurts to try.
If any research needs to be done on the above items I would be happy to do it.

I never liked using existing metals to base my games off, and my previous gm's agreed...where is the creative thought in that? Make up your own ideas =)

Well, yeah all three do get abused.
I got a coin last month for helping a Combat Support Battalion do some training at a range. It was pretty cool. It was a tactical range, where you had to move into position. The BC decided to give them some more training and had a soldier 'shot' every iteration. We just had to tell them what to do. Actually we got to yell at them and harrass them about litter carries. It was fun. That one actually means something to me, and it happened to me after I had written that.

please set this foreigner right on it... I bet the CS awarding customs are based on these of the US forces, with which I'm not perfectly familiar...
medals, should be special awards like the purple heart or the medal of congress... awards for wounds, gallantry, and generally acting or suffering beyond the normal call or duty, or other successful heroics.
ribbons would be awarded to all survivors from a given campaign or battle, showing they 'were there'
and coins (something I did not even know existed till I read this forum) are a minor award given on the spot by superior officers for outstanding performance.
do I have it the right way?
