Modifications for the NE-700 Plasma Cartridge Mini-Gun...
Moderators: Immortals, Supreme Beings, Old Ones
Sounds cool, will have to try them out.
I let my wife play rifts once....................she shot me in the back of the head with a naruni plasma pistol, gaffa taped a type 4 fusion block to my nether regions, and kicked my ass off the apc travelling at 100 MPH

Naruni NE-700 Vulcan Plasma Cartridge Mini-gun in Naruni Wave 2 is listed as doing twice the amount of damage as a NE-200 Machinegun from Rifts: Mercenaries for about half the ammo expenditure per burst
Ya I noticed this too, I thought it might of been another error where the gun isn't using the standard Plasma Cartridge but a bigger version of it. The gun just seems to big to be using the standard ammo. It's 140lbs with a 60lb drum, most the regular hand-held weapons(not the big dual purpose ones) are of a normal size/weight and use the same ammo. So why should this be much bigger and do more damage with the same type of ammo.
God says he loves me, but I suspect he's just in it for the sex

I have a theory why the NE 700 should be so much more efficient than the 200.
It is twice as heavy as the other machinegun, apparently has a longer barrel, and also is a gatling ("Vulcan") design, with a higher rate of fire. Those factors should add up to a more shooting-stable weapon, with much less recoil induced jumping than affects the lighter weapon.
Those factors could explain why the weapon hits on a burst should be about 100%, where the 200 seems to have only a 30% hitting rate on a successful burst.

Just a thought:
Modern mini guns fire aprox. 6000 rounds a minute. Even if the Vulcan only fired a third of that (I suppose that plasma rounds would overheat the barrels easily, still if we have guns with such a high cyclic rate now and this is technology from Phase World...) and each shot does 1d4x10, then imagine how much damage someone with one of these puppies could do to a very large target that you wouldn't miss, like a parked Deaths Head transport. If you had enough ammo and stood there shooting at point blank range into anything big and stationary for one minute, that's about
1d4 x 20 000 MDC - a bit ridiculous.
I think that a mini gun should have a really high cyclic rate but smaller ammo like the 5d6 rounds.

The word "THAN" is important. Something is "better than" something else, not "better then", it's "rather than" not "rather then".

A plasma cartridge mini-gun?
Mini-gun? Like in Termanator 2?
Man, there are times that I miss playing Rifts. Then I hear a phrase like "plasma cartridge mini-gun", and come to my senses. Other than that, I like what zOb said. It's ridiculous. Haven't the Naruni corporate got better things to build...like...heat rays?

If that doesn't prompt you to buy it, I don't know what else I can say.
