But I could be wrong.
Actually, you probably are wrong. Even today we can generate laser beams (and plasmas) that exceed the temperature of the surface of the sun, let alone the heat generated by solar radiation from something several light years away in space.

The way I do body armor is that it is a multiple layer suit with hard ablative metal or cermaometal coatings to take care of thermal/laser/whatever on the outside, and a thinner superkevlar/gel polymer whatever inner liner to help absorb some of the kinetic/thermal shocks the target (character) gets hit with. That way as the armor keeps getting hit pieces flake off and dents and such get bigger or deeper and eventually the suit is penetrated (or sooner if called shots take out pieces of the suit) and the character inside has a limb removed (if I am gracious) or is dead (If Im not). I hope I am being clear about that.

Sure are. It's called "impact vapourization".
Basically, it means that when laser A hits armour B, molecules of B spread outward, getting in the way of A. These molecules defuse the rest of the laser blast, which is why you aren't cut in half by the first shot from a JA-12.
I never finished high school, but I have my Doctorate in Rubber Science and RPG Design

If that doesn't prompt you to buy it, I don't know what else I can say.

ACTUALLY...considering that a regular natural lighting bolt that does SDC damage is 5x hotter than the surface of good old Sol...
An MDC laser would be MANY times hotter than the lightning bolt, which, in turn, is hotter than the sun.

Well, I may have been off on the exact number, but the point still stands.

Yup...by a factor of atleast 52000 or so...

The laser burns through your heavily damaged armor and instantly vaporizes flesh, bone and organs necessary for keeping you alive. You are now dead.
It doesn't really matter if the wrecked armor is hot or not in my games.
The simple answers are the best.
