What is your favorite Gun in Rifts?
Well the title sort of explains it all. What gun do you use for almost every one of your characters?

I have none.
Each character is different and so is their choice of weapon.

Depends on the character ... I personally have a thing for the NG 45 LP particle beam pistol...
But one of my old characters swore by his KEP 5 pistol he got from Atlantis
and another just loves TK rifles of all kinds, and dreams of stealing one from a xiticix' dead body.

Must repeat my mantra: As a genius, I am not qualified to make the assessment "it doesn't take a genius to figure this out."
I like the Wilk's 457, and Wilk's Backup Pistols for standard high quality, low weight weapons. I also go for any energy rifle that also has a grenade launcher. For style the Kittani Plasma Lance with a Plasma Sword as a sidearm. Nothing beats seeing a mounted knight shooting fireballs out of his lance!

Eylor Implant for energy weapons? where exactly is that?
Also, Since plasma cartridge is an ammo based system, adding a bio wiz component to it looks like munchkin to me... I don't know if that Eylo thing is supposed to apply to normal energy weaponry, TW or bio wiz stuff... but grafting it on an ammo based system just feels wrong

I have to agree with Zanrain. The Bandit Big Bore revolver. Just keep shooting the guy until he is out of attacks. My battle mage and my gunslinger would never be caught without theirs.
Also for sheer stopping power, the Naruni Plasma Cartridge minigun. My Headhunter in his Ultimax replaced the Ultimax railgun with it, and for a backup had the plasma cannon from a Mechanoid wasp mounted on its forearm. For close combat he had an arm mounted juicer chainsaw. This is my current character, and the one that you don't want to meet in a dark alley.

I like the JA-11, JA-12, C-12, and most Wilks Pistols. One of my all time favorites is the Triax (TX-45?) Particle Beam Rifle for its good damage, range and payload, plus it looks really cool. I also have always liked the C-12, C-27, and C-18. It all really depends on what character I am playing.

Favorite Guns
Rifles: MDC: NG-LG6 Laser Rifle & Grenade Launcher; Modest Damage but excellent tactical choices and with the NG-PowerPack it has a HUGE payload!!!
Or NG-IP7; Same damage(on a burst as the NG-P7), better payload and bulpup design makes it both portable and concealable-compared to other rifles
SDC: AK-47;with silver rounds (hollow-point is best) or W.I. Ramjet
Pistols: MDC: NG-45LP Laser Pistol; High Damage and reasonable payload
SDC: .45 Officers Auotmatic with silver hollow-point (8D6/hit Vs Vampires)
Heavy: NG-202; in a two-man team as a support weapon(It's even better on a Power Armor Suit as the Super 202!)
NG-P7; High Damage without the need to be a Borg to use it and Glitter Armor won't reduce Particle Beam damage.
SDC: Mortars! I've read a thread here that changed my mind about them.[/i]

The three inch bore of most Naruni Weapons wins me over every time. I think it's a horror factor of 14, but I'd have to check the book. The big bore runs a close second for sheer "whatcha gonna do now punk?" flavor.
Also I'd take any railgun that acts like a raigun instead of a fully automatic peashooter.

In your game you must be able to see lasers and hear them. In mine you can't. Even a laser of that size might pop as the caps discharge, and the beams are invisible. Do a search for laser propulsion you should be able to find a sight with a video. The laser they use is an SDI laser than can strike a satellite out of orbit, it is invisible and only pops when it creats plasma after being refocused from the bottom of the disk. So at the ATL-7s range you can fire and hit or miss and no body will know their being shot at unless you hit something else in which case which way did the shot come from. Roll Pherensics an hour later you discover that the shot came from 43 degrees plus or minus 2 degrees on a horizontal plane (which at a mile could be quite a distance off) perpindicular to the surface of the wall. Hopefully your character is already gone by then or at least had time to reload the clip. Or if you sit around doing nothing except worrying YOUR STUPID, hopefully most wouldn't.

For me, it's the NG-45LP. Good range for a pistol, packs a whallop, and isn't affected by laser-resistant armor.
On the other hand, I've also got a soft spot for the Wilk's line of pistols in the New West book, if for no other reason than the accuracy (strike bonus).

The NG-101 has a place, as it combines everything a mercenary needs into one compact yet formidable package. Lots of tactical options, a vibro-bayonet for when the mutant rats get a wee bit too close (w00t!), and (my god!) a fair bit of balance on the damage. Heavy, yes, but less so than other rifles out there, and since it takes a three shot burt, the shooter effectively loses the damage from a shot. At long last, a balancing factor with regards to bursts. Single shot max efficiency, or faster damage with ammo loss? You decide.
The NG-LG6, the CP-50, the Russian Lynx laser rifle and the CV-212 are probably my favourite general purpose rifles, as they represent a great blend of versatility and looks; so too is the new Naruni slimline plasma cartridge rifle (NG-10?). It pipped the P7 to the post due to sleek bad-assedness factor and more shots, though the P7 is one damn find trusty old warhorse.
Pistol-wise, the Wilks 227, C-20, CP-30, and NG-57 are probably three of my faves. Good damage, good looks, good balance. The CP-30 in particular looks like a gun you want to *use*
However, the special mention goes to the rifle I always have a soft spot for; the trusty old CSM C-12 heavy laser rifle. If I was given a choice of weapon to be dropped into Rifts Earth with, it would be Old Reliable, for sure. The original, and still the best an adventurer can get

Since a the majority of my characters have been CS in one way or the other, the one weapon I've used the most is the C-12 Heavy Laser Assault Rifle. And with good reason. It can be used to fight on the SDC range, it can be used conservatively firing up to 60 2D6 MD blasts without reloading, or go hog-wild doing 4D6x2 MD on full power bursts, though that will only last you for six melee attacks before you have to reload.
Another I keep falling back on is the CFT Autoshooter due to it's flexability. No other weapon out there can fire lasers one minute, hollow points the next, and silver the minute after that. Got to love those things.

I love giving characters weapons that fit their personalities so things vary a lot.
Bursters (or fire warlocks) just have to get a plasma cartrige pistol for the sheer fun of it. (No I don't super fuel flame the cartridges but it does sound like a fun thing to try at least once .)
Stealthy or classy characters need a Wilks 457 Laser Pulse Rifle. They are so very quiet and deadly for a basic weapon. The same is true about most Wilks weapons.
Intellectual wizzards need a Manoan SK pistol.
Warrior mages need a Nova gun or fireburst rifle.
Loud munchkins need a Shamarian (spelling?) Rail gun with a temporal wizzard D-pocket for ammo.
A great weapon to start with if you're not sure of personality yet would be a Northern Gun Long pistol. Good balance of range and damage out of a pistol.
Any other ideas for mixing personality with a weapon?

I was referring to the fact that the thing does so much damage and that unless you're dealing with an infantry vehicle or robot/PA there's a good chance you'll kill your target in one shot. The damage is also such that you'd be likely to stop even moderately-armored vehicles in 2-3 shots.
And yeah, the lasers are visible when I GM, especially since the common infantry soldier will want to see what he's hit.
OK.
Another way to handle the lasers if your just interested in allowing the soldier using the laser rifle to see where he has hit is to have all laser equiped units to have IR goggles or sensors of some sort. However, since when do soldiers get to see what they've hit? Most soldiers now don't get to see what they've hit or rather where they've hit unless they're using tracer rounds. Bad idea if your trying to fire on the enemy without giving your possition away. Other ways of tracking fire back to it's origin is following a line in the opposite general direction of the reaction. "Back and to the left, back and to the left, back and to the left." So the attacker should be toward the front right of the target. Also the exit wound should be larger than the entry wound. Lasers shouldn't follow either one of the above. Unless your armor can refocus the laser energy turning it into plasma thrust there should be no reaction. If the laser was able to penitrate your armor it should have an exit wound the same size as the entry wound, a nice round (or whatever shape the beam was) hole entering the armor and exiting. The other possibility for the laser is that it enters but doesn't exit, knowing this though the targets buddies could follow the general direction the target, or rather the hole was facing when it got shot. It just harder if there was burnthrough since there would be two choices.

nothign like a HF of 12 and a knock-down factor that might knock the wind out of a juicer.
And against a mage, it's even better than a bag full of rocks!

Re: What is your favorite Gun in Rifts?
Kittani K-4 Pulse Laser Rifle or the original Wilks 457 Pulse Laser Rifle.
It is always a bad thing when political matters are allowed to affect the planning of operations (Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, 1943)

Yeah they are rather unique see with their demon mask all hand held weapons inflict double the normal damage, plus if the weapon is sdc that damage is made mdc and doubled i beleave so imagine a 90 mm recoiless rifle in the hands of this nasty character.
Aegis
the trouble is that by "hand held" what is meant is melee HtH.
I don't think that a gun is enhanced any in an apok's hands... no supporting evidence anywhere. because you may hold the gun or bow in your hands, but not the arrow, projectile(s) or ray, so what damages the foe is not "hand held" weapon for purposes of the apok's power.

M-160 Ion Assult Rifle from Underseas. Does really good damage. Has good range (2000 feet). Can fire equally well underwater as above it. And a long clip has 55 shots!! Even doing the 3 shot bursts thats 18 bursts doing 1D6X10 MD!! Plus it's a pre-rifts weapon so could be found as an antique weapon, or on a salvage expidition.

The laser pen is cool, but an operator or a psi-tech could easily modify the Wilks laser wand, (which the book says looks like a pen and does up too 1 MD), to do the same damage. A freinds character did that exact thing as we were adventuring in North America.
