I'll give props to Long to, his art is what defined Palladium artwise.
But Perez, Wilson, Breaux, Apollo and Williams are the artists that refined Palladium artwise.

I forgot about you also Johnson.
Wait, this is Scott Johnson the rifts artist, right?
It is, and I would have voted for him. Long, Parkinson and Breaux are pretty high on my list.
(EDIT: Though I'd wish he would get that military gallery up and running...)

Scott Johnson will always have a place in Doom's heart for immortalizing Dr. Doom III in a Rifts book but Kevin Long was the first and Doom never wavers.

I fear that people have forgotten one of the best artsts to have working on Rifts...
RK Post has done some amazing work in various books, and though he is better known for his work in Nightspawn, He will always be the best part of Rifts Underseas for me.
also, don't forget Japan, SA 2 and other books as well, but as for the poll...
For a long Time, Long was my favorite, with Newell and Martin close behind, but Perez too my vote with his amazing work so many books, but his qality dropped dramatically in the early MB 20 books, but has be improving since then and still holds the top rank in my opinion.

I like Williams and Perez the best, Siembieda isn't bad either {looking at the Apocalypse 'bot in Japan}.

I voted Perez, I personally really like his gritty comic-book take on Rifts characters, but also I really like Vince Martin (I think tha's the guy with the squiggle signature isn't it?).
The word "THAN" is important. Something is "better than" something else, not "better then", it's "rather than" not "rather then".

D'oh! That's been "coming soon" for about 2 years now, hasn't it? I forgot about that. It's mostly the art from Deluxe Revised Recon and a few pieces from Systems Failure. The art is sitting in a cabinet in my studio here; I just need to find time and scan it in.

IMHO, Apples and Oranges. One should, to my view, have one ranking for the Covers, and one for the interior. Personally, Zeleznik hands-down for covers. Cyber-Thor on "Pantheons" is tha ultimate shizzle, although Long's "Vampire Kingdoms" is REALLY cool (and more than a little bit scary.....fifty gazillion Vamps in the background, and they're ALL looking at you......). For Interior Artwork, torn between Long and Martin. Perez has his own, cool style, but he just doesn't lift my leg (Heresy, I know)..................

This is going to sounds like the mother of all cop-outs, but there's just no way I can vote for just one favorite. There are qualities I like about several of them:
Kevin Long -- Great bot/weapon/vehicle design (except for the 'willy cannons' in some of the NG designs). Plus an old sentimental favorite due to the fact I cut my RPG teeth on Robotech. Figures are a little stiff though.
Wayne Breaux -- Good with concepts and technical-style illustrations. Can also back up his illustrations with solid writing. Also, with literally thousands of illustrations to his credit he's the epitome of dependability. Good all-around asset. Use of shading film can be frustrating though when I try and color them.
Vince Martin -- Good linework and good dynamic figures that imply a sense of motion even when standing still. Some of his technical designs are a little far-fetched though, particularly the impossibly wide grips on Naruni weapons.
Ramon Perez -- Good use of light/dark areas to build atmosphere. Also presents a 'snapshot moment' quality that invites the viewer into the scene. Some of his illustrations can be hard to do more than simply base color, though.
Scott Johnson -- Like Breaux, a solid quality all-around b/w artist... but what blows me away with Scott is his color art (particularly the pieces he did for the Rifts CCG). They're almost photorealistic. He truly knows his way around PhotoShop.
William McKenna -- good portrait artist. The faces of the characters he illustrates really resembles actual people.
Like Terry57x said, these guys do great work and Palladium is fortunate to have them all doing stuff for Rifts at some point or another.

I really like Wayne Breaux's work. He's improved a great deal since his intorduction way back in the original Merc's book. However, my favorite is Vince Martin (not listed in the poll). The man's work was nothing shy of exceptional with everything he drew... except guns. For some reason it seemed like he could only draw one kind of gun with a few variations, and that was it.

Larry MacDougall. His work in the Rifts Main Book is what drew me in to the game more than anything else. He just made everything look so DIRTY. Everyone looked like rag-tag survivors. He had people picking out of garbage cans, living in cardboard boxes, scavenging through rubble-strewn streets. It was just awesome stuff.
And I love it that some of the later artists have ressurrected some of his work. Like the Headhunter in my avatar. Forget what book its from. Or the D-Bee drinking Psi-Cola.
Perez is great. But like I mentioned in another thread, all of his characters look like they're going clubbing. I know it makes them look 'trendy' and 'hip' or whatever. But in ten years they'll look pretty dated.
Much respect goes out to Kevin Long too for being there since I started gaming. The guy does robots and power armor like nobody's business. But he can't do an action scene to save his life. Sorry Mr. Long.
Wayne Breaux is also extremely talented. And I like the accuracy portrayed in his characters. I can actually recognize the gear they use, whereas most of the other artists just make stuff up. Maybe I'ts my inner nerd coming out, being nit-picky about things like that. On the flip side, I didn't like Breaux' work in Pantheons at all. Not at all.
Scott Johnson and Freddie Williams, I loved their work in Systems Failure.
Michael Gustovich is another favorite of mine. He's got that perfect "1970's comic book" look to his work. Just hokey enough to be fun, without going overboard. And his action poses are the best.
The "melting wax" guy, forgive me for not knowing his name: At first I ddin't like what he was doing. He's got alot of skill, but it doesnt' really fit into Rifts. But his stuff in Rifts China was actually very good. He and Dubisch really added some stellar work to that book.
and of course the greatest palladium artist ever born is me. my work was featured in Rifter 9 1/2 and soon-to-be-released Rifter 28. And yes I will sign your copy. if you give me a kiss.

All the others are certainly good artists and have done some great work, but something about this guy's work has always called to me. It may lack detail, but it has a certain style, and definitely gives you a major sense of "grit" that I think is right for Rifts. The picture of the headhunter on pg. 67 of the RMB is one of classic favorites.

I like any art where it looks realistic. I don't like how Ramon Perez does his people. They are way to thin for my taste and there's something else that just makes them wrong to me. I also don't like the art in Australia that has the technological culture having buildings that look, for lack of a better term, bio-techno shoddy. The buildings look like they should be Cyber Xiticix.

Timothy Truman did some great stuff in Vampire Kingdoms. His art looks like vacation photos i took in Mexico a few years back.

I have to pull a "Servo" and list my picks (although I did vote for Perez)...
Kevin Long: I know he's got some stiff characters and everyone has a very similar outfit (that one piece deal, or a tight shirt tucked into a pair of pants with a rectangular belt, all wrapped up in a ratty cloak...with some wrist bracers to match), but it's his old school SAMAS and Glitter Boy that we all know and love.
Larry MacDougal: Kevin defined the look, Larry set the mood...His stuff from the main book and Source Book 1 is awesome! I was glad to see the homage pieces from Scott Johnson, and Perez as well.
Ramon Perez: Picked up the "grit" where Larry left off, but his characters all have a personality that you can see in the pictures. Not many can capture that real feeling. Most artist just pick the standard cool/tough/action poses (I know I do), but he can make a guy telling a campfire story (I think it's in Warlords of Russia) look exciting.
Scott Johnson: he deserves to be on the poll...He's a Palladium powerhouse that's lending his talents to Marvel Comics (they recognize his skillz!) It's good to see more Palladium stuff coming from him again. I also owe a lot to Scott, but he really does deserve the props.
Michael Wilson: Man his stuff is awesome. He does full EBA better than anyone. His cyberknights stuff is some of my favorite.
Freddie Williams: He inks with a Rapidograph...That's gotta be tough to pull off.
I totally dig his burly character designs, but he does some mean action scenes.

Svartalf- if Cherico were a character created in a point game system, he'd have all his scores in geeky skills and his youtube and weird net stuff schticks all paid through a a Terminal Bad Luck (with more nasty GM intervention) disadvantage, and probably an Uncouth (can not have social skills) disad as well...
In an RPG with deadly situations that character would have had to be replaced a dozen times over[

I don't want to drag down such a good positive thread but does anyone else find some of Breaux's art boxy or out of proportion? Some of his stuff is great (I think he's got better over time) and the stuff on his website is really good from memory but some just doesn't cut it in my opinion.
He does do a lot of work for PB though, I always thought he was an above average artist who could produce a large volume of art quickly, even if it isn't as good as some others.

The word "THAN" is important. Something is "better than" something else, not "better then", it's "rather than" not "rather then".

You know, I never thought about that before... but now that you mention it, I can see it.

And yes, inking with a Rapidograph is a pain in the @#*(&%! (I was forced to ink EVERYTHING in college with one of those), so Freddie gets bonus 'cool artist points' on that basis.

z0B,
I a lot of the mechs he does, but whether anyone loves or hates his stuff, he's easily one of the most reliable PB artists (considering how much writing he does for them as well). I think his volume of work out does pretty much everyone else.
Servo,
I started to use them as well to replace my microns (I wanted to use the same ink or at least the same level of black ink) in all my stuff, so I do most of the stuff with a brush, then switch to the Rapidographs for the tight linework.
I used to do all of my inking with Microns (figuring they're pretty close to rapidographs), but after switching, I really don't know how Freddie pulls it off so well. I stick with a 80/20 brush to pen ratio (Mr. Siembieda's suggestion). I should really switch my bristol, though. The tech pens and quills I'm experimenting with chew up the surface a tad.
Drunken Style Studios (DSS) did a lot of great work in the newer books. I'm diggin' the stuff that Majestic, and Ka Xiong did in the Splicers book. They just seem to keep getting bigger and bigger.

Yeah, Ka Xiong has some good illustrations too. His works seem to have a good sense of... well, character to them.
And you know, I just now clicked on the link in your sig... there's some fair dinkum illustrations in THAT batch too...

LOL... no, no Aussie on THIS side of the screen. I've been using that phrase ever since my Dagger Comics days, where I worked on this super-team that had an Aussie in its lineup. As this is the 10-year anniversary of Dagger going under, I've kinda been using it a bit more than normal out of nostalgia.
And Jag, "fair dinkum" was used to indicate that there was good stuff there... at least I hope it's used in a positive way, otherwise I've got about 10 years' worth of apologies to get started on...

Fair Dinkum actually means true, honest or right. It can be used in the positive way Uncle Servo has used it, but would have probably been better to say something like "there's some fair dinkum beauties in that batch too".

He's gotten better, but I'll be dead honest, I'm glad he's doing more writing work.
Drunken Style Studio does have some promising talent. And I do like Ka Xiong's stuff.
He has improved alot since Rifts: Japan... his robots in that book were poor.... he usually draws people pretty well though.

Can't argue with z0b on this one... I defer to his superior grasp on the Aussie vernacular!

I am Mark Dudley Business Manager and artist for Drunkenstyle Studios. I am really glad you guys are digging our stuff. We work really hard to put out phat artwork to compliment the reading experience. I am really interested to know what you guys think about the crew. I am sorry for us not putting our names on all of our work. When your in a studio sometimes you just wanna get the work done and out as efficiently as possible. I think we have improved and continue to do so. Its funny that alot of you guys favs and Kevs faves are the same and alot are different. I am gonna point Ka and Majestic in particular to your comments and I hope you cats continue to support the Drunkenstyle. We will try hard not to let ya down.
Dud,
Hey man, this is Jason Marker. I met you out at Trinitycon this year on Sunday while you and Brandon were sketchin at the table. The Crew? Well...I like Liz's girls, they're awful curvy, I think Brandon is getting better with every book he's published in, Ka's colors give me X's for eyes, I dug a lot of your stuff from Chaos Earth and Splicers, Mike Majestic's stuff is cool, but they don't print well...too pixellated. You guys have a definite style that's recognisable. I'd like to see more ID on the pics sometimes so I know who to praise...or blame
Who is Liz...? What book{s} does her art show in?
