If it has to be a flying unit (all are except the VHT) I choos a Legios (the oomph of the beta, with the flexibility of the alpha if needed)

if I can have a land unit, I have a thing for MAC Monsters and Excalibers.

The VB-6 "Konig Monster" is bomber used in the atmosphere only, but I wouldn't discount the idea of it being used in space. But if it were, it'd be used sparingly, with most pilots opting to use the VF-17 "Nightmare" Macross Universe. It's almost like comparing the B-52 to the B-1B.

In the Robotech Universe, should this design be drawn up, it would probably never make it past the initial testing phase, and would wind up in a museum as nothing more than a curiosity, or just torn apart and the and peices used to make.

http://unsd.macrossroleplay.org/vb6.html
http://www.anime.net/macross/mecha/united_nations/variable/vb6/index.html

Maybe is does say somewhere that the VB-6 can fly in space, I have no clue, I just skimmed it cause I have yet to get ready for work, which I have to leave for in 20 minutes...

Peace

Sorry....but a variable bomber is a waste of materiel. I know people ooh and ahh over the 'cool' aspect...but its not economical. The space you waste on making the thing transformable as well as the additional armor plating you add for it to survive Battloid-mode could be better used for additional reaction mass, armaments or sensors/ecm/eccm.

Anyway...I'd pilot an Ajax of course. :D

hmmm, Logan's Wings are not "Dinky" for its Size.

the Logan that is 6.5 tons (dry). with a 6.29m (20 ft) wing span in fighter (Using rt.coms Stats)
Compared to
This Monster is 112 Tons empty.with a 24.42 m (80 feet) total width in fighter (Using the Robotech Research Stats)

20 feet to support 6.5 tons is more believable then 80 fet to support 112tons.... unless you count Magic.

Some stats i found for the other planes you mentioned.

the Guppy-101 is 90 tons (Can't Find a wing stat for it)( Stats form here)
the F-117 is Empty weight: 29,750 lbs.(13495 kg.) // Max. weight: 53,000 lbs.(24040 kg.) 14.5 and 26.5 tons, with a : 13,18 m (43ft)Wing span(here)
the c-5: Maximum Takeoff Weight 769,000 pounds (384.5 tons) and has a 222ft wing span and needs over 3km to take off. ( i got these stats here )

Gah, I HATE that Koing Monster. Yet more proof (in my eyes) that Macross mecha are approaching Gundam-ish levels of stuipidity. The Stampeed Valk is pure proof of THAT.

But on topic, I'm a Cyclone Rider at heart. I love the way a group of Cyclone Riders can perform any special-ops mission thrown at them and still come back in one piece (supposidly).

But there's no way I'd pick a Cyclone for front-line combat. It'd be flattened (and me in it) in no time flat (pun very much intended). If I had to pick one from the list, I'd be a Hovertanker. There's just something about the raw power of a tank that makes me drool :)

You know I like how they say 3km...no it doesn't. If you want to know how I know look up 97th Communication Squadron and see what the host base does. If you can't find anything by my squadron look up Altus AFB. Remember they are giving wingspan from wingtip to wingtip that doesn't mean that it is the entire lifting area it could be more or less. The F-117 as very small wings however the way it is designed gives it somewhat of a lifting body I beleive the actuall wing lengths are less than 5m each. If the guppy can fly so can the koenig monster. There are four elements to lift. They are drag, gravity, lift and thrust. Lift is created when air moving over the lift surface travels faster than the air going under creating a low pressure area over the lifting surface that the high pressure area under the lifting surface pushes toward. This will not happen without any foward movement to push the surface through the air. The more Thurst (which would be the Magic) created the more foward movement the more lift created by the lifting surface. Now in ordre to make a lifting body I beleive the only thing that is required is that the bottom be flat or at least less curved than the top and also not allow the air to come back together untill after it has passed the rear of the aircraft.

So the monster would be able to fly as long as it has enough thrust. A lifting body would also aid it greatly.

Like a tank with an open top isn't stupid. I'll just launch a few frags over head and kill the pilot. At least in Gundam they use Newtonian physics in space and take into account that there is no up.

That's just it though....there are so many damn Gundam shows out there...which one, besides Gundam (the very original) is in continuity?

Gundam Wing was a bunch of pretty boys hanging out with rich people at what appeared to be a boarding school, and they occasionally found the time to go forth and do something in their Gundams.

Gundam 1 appeared to be the government of Earth getting its ass handed to it by its own colonies, and all they could do was make 1 single robot that didn't suck while their colonies had apparently made tons of better ones that whooped much booty.

Gundam 08th MS Team.........wow.....that was just a travesty of the military

The beautiful thing about Gundam is that neither side is depicted as being the "good" side it is a war story. Their may be a conflict between good and evil but that is either within the character or between characters. Another thing they do that I love is in most of the various series they kill the main character.

Your right about Gundam Wing though. I liked the Mecha but the story line was lacking and the hero didn't die.

Because Veritechs are made of tin foil and explode if you hit them with the weakest of weapons. Gundams wade through tank fire like it itches...hence, juggernaut. The key to Veritechs was amazing manueverability...Gundams don't really manuever on the ground in comparison..........they kinda ooze.

Ooze? You must not be talking about the suits from Gundam Seed. I don't remember any of them really oozing. Most of them were very agile, that is the gundams mind you.

What are you talking about the Gundams can withstand most heavy fire because they use a new armor even in Seed they have a newer armor. All of the other MS fall left and right to ship fire etc.

my main problem i've always seen with gundam was a lack of reason behind them...

the variable fighter was designed to gight giants...

in the origional gundam, the mobile suit was for constructing colonies...
but the human form is hardly the opmal design for anything, let alone maneuvering in space and building complex devices... (at the same time)

and in SEED they don't even use that excuse...

and while Freedom and Justice are wicked mechs... they hold nothing to the ability a Cyclone gives you to move about covertly...

and i'm half suprised no one's mentioned the Evas yet...

Besides, this is a thread about which human mecha you'd pick out of the listed choices; not which mecha is good for what purpose :)

How is 18m (approx. 63') any more of a Juggernaut than the 40' tall Veritechs?

Yes, but you're comparing standard MS's to Gundams. You said it yourself that Gundams can withstand heavy fire as other MS's drop like flies...hence...juggernaut.

Well, if we go for non-Robotech, I'll take the Knight of Gold. Nothing like an unstoppable time-travelling multi-billion year old mecha at your side when your back's up against the wall!

Buster-Cannon equipped mecha are so cool! :D

So you must not like MDC or Glitterboys either eh? The Gundams are the MDC to everthing elses SDC or the Glitterboy to well everything else.

Uh and according to the books the first Gundam was brought down by a regular Zaku wielding a heat axe. It is primarily the pilots not the suits that make them so unbeatable. Hard to kill what you can't hit. Even the Spectrum armor or whatever they call it is only invulnerable for like 60 some physical hits and only their sheilds are anti-beam coated.

I don't like the Glitterboy because it just looks gay. If I haven't seen more than a couple episodes of varying Gundams, how would I know what goes on in the books?

I just REALLY didn't like Gundam, as it seemed to be the exact opposite of what a military would have. That's like a single M1A1 Abrams tank being developed for WWII....bunch of Shermans, and then this one brutal ultimate tank. War would still be lost since they're depending on one machine to win a global war.

well generally, the gundam storylines go fomulaicly like this...

1. War starts
2. Space-based guys have mecha already (gawd only knows why)
3. earth forces develope "better" mecha,
4. prototype "better" mecha (Gundam in the origional series) is discovered before completion by the enemy
5. insert 5-50 episodes of guy who shouldn't be a pilot, piloting mecha to protect friends or whatever, while trying to deliver prototype mecha to it's owners...

it's not the "only one," just the prototype...

there are a couple rare ones where the gundams are unique and supposed to be one-man armies... but those are the exception, not the rule...

Zerebus, Tanks do beat all just read David Drake's Hammer's Slammers series and you will see just how much tanks rock.

hmm...

wonder if Palladium could score the rights to make a Gundam RPG...

(Personally, the Astray are my current favorites...)

They inquired into that after a bunch of us mentioned it a few years ago.

Bandai wanted too much money for the license.

R Talsorian Has the gundam RPG license since 1995.

Yes and no, from what I have read. They have the license for the Gundam RPG... system. Better known here in the States as Mekton (Zeta (Plus)). They have to refrain from actually putting out a Gundam specific game.

Nope, RTAL now owns both licenses

They already released GUNDAM SENKI in japan in 95 and Mr Tsuneo, Who wrote gundam Senki (covers Gundam 79-81) helped RTAL along to get a US license. Right now the US version is sitting on Bandai's Desk waiting for approval.

Gundam Senki has a few diffirent rules from Mekton Zeta
(most notably, Diffirent Mechanics for ACE points, 2d6 resolution system, 15 level Scale System instead of the 11 + intra scalle system )

Dude just tell him to go to Rtal's website and read.

you forgot to inform him that MTZ is a evolution of Mekton and Mekton was created before the Gundam RPG was released in Japan. When he(Tsuneo) wanted to produced Gundam RPG he asked Rtal if he could use their system.

Your right it is gay especially the name.

Go buy books as in the translated novels not graphic novels It is cool more adult too. In most cases the Gundam is a prototype that is trying to be stolen or other wise falls into the hands of someone who shouldn't have it. It is like the M1 being stolen before there are M1's. If you go through the main series terrible things still do happen even though the "good" side has the Gundam or the pilot that makes the difference.
