Thraxus
going by books, IMO this NPC is harder to defeat and/or kill than any other NPC in most of the Rifts/PW/HU books. the only things that books make more difficult to defeat are the Old Ones, but on the face of it, even they sound easier to defeat than Thraxus. i am going by his stats and fluff text.
has anyone defeated him and/or even killed him. is Thraxus the Mother of all Munchkins and NPC's.

Never tried it.
A Spluggy is harder to kill, so are most A.I.'s or V.I.'s.

that maybe true, but if you read the two descriptions, Thraxus is way up there, as the hardest/most powerful npc around.
considering what he is, we shouldn't even think that a Splugorth is easier to defeat than he is. yet sometimes you read his stats/fluff text and the SI stats ( not fluff text) and that is how it seems.
it is really hard to steal of him, yet d-raiders strike in Splynn of all places.
Thraxus is like a munckin player character on steroids. and he isn't even a munkinised example of a Godling rcc.
I believe my friend, who had already conquered the earth at that point with his own ultimate dungeon crawling pc, encased thraxus in a variety of spells, one of which was a mystic portal cube, which he then fired a single shot into, which then ricocheted and doubled in the cube til it baked thraxus into a fine mist...

that was all our gaming groups take on Thraxus.
IMO most Major NPC's in books should be written as if they were PC's. that doesn't mean they are invincible, just ensure they can do what you claim they can do.
it is silly to say this NPC is so mighty, so wise, so powerful.
BECAUSE going by the books joe average low lvl pc can take that NPC down without breaking sweat.

HUH???? killing Thraxus? boy, of course he's made harder to kill than a rabid wolverine... he's intended NOT to be killed... of course, if the GM is smart, he should never even get into combat, and any players assaulting him on, say, a supposedly peaceful meeting, ought to receive a serious drubbing... from his lackeys and personal guards...

Thraxus is one of the best NPC's I've ever used. As soon as you mention the name, or give a description the players cringe. A few of the players contemplated trying to take him out and thought better of it. One did break into his massive vault full of all kinds of magic items and other treasures. Thraxus was quite amused at the audacity of this person and allowed him to live....of course there was a catch!

I know the feeling, I've been trying to read _Vector Prime_ but it keeps boring the snot out of me. I read a book of short stories in the SW uni recently that was ok. I'm sticking to short stories and anthologies that way I'm not mired in some massive plot that takes waaaaaaaay too long to get into, or comes to a screeching halt in the middle and can't get started up again.
Gadrin,
If your into the short stories I highly recommend you check out the various Tales books. Like Tales from the Mos Eisly cantina, Jabbas Palace, and one of my favorites, Tales of the Bounty Hunters. Great Reading.

Tales of the Bounty Hunters was the bomb.
As for Thraxus... call me crazy, but I kinda like the guy. It's what happens when you play a long-lived character for a long time. Nice to see a character "living it up" in semi-retirement.

If you mean Thraxus, he's in Phase World... he's that über powerful godling who used to be an adventurer and has become one of the most powerful people in Center... he's the ideal power behind the scenes to back any badass caper, the more twisted, the better.
as for what stuff he has... well, that's not detailed... just assume a double platoon of repo bots for his bodyguard, anything technological he may want... yep, including starships of the line and a couple Wrath of Gods destroyer if necessary, and magic artifacts by the dozen... I hear his Greatest runeweapons collection is truly unique in the megaverse... including no less than 3 Swords of Atlantis.

I'd run him in the environment he's in plus add in some politics and the fact that others "are gunning for him". He wouldn't be impossible to kill, but by the time the PCs got thru the smoke I'd be blowin' their way they'd probably have 2nd thoughts.

Sorry to hear that some on this Thread did not like Admiral Thrawn. In the Star Wars Universe, he's my FAVORITE, and I hope that if he's EVER used in some Star Wars project, that they use David Warner in the role of Thrawn.Carl Gleba wrote:gadrin wrote:DarkWarriorKarg wrote:Thraxus probably suffers from the "Thrawn Effect", a cheeseball way to immediately divine what all his opponents are up to, then counter them.

When you deal with Thraxus, NEVER ask: "What does THAT guy have??"

what makes Thraxus so powerful is the GM has alot of leeway with him. so he can a relatively weak NPC or a relatively powerful NPC and all the time the GM is going by the books.
He has enough stats to use without GM creating NPC himself, but there is enough leeway for GM to make him as powerful as he/she wants. Meaning even uber munchkin PC's have to actually turn up to defeat him.
Most PC's don't stand a chance against him in a straight fight ( not taking into account favourable dice rules)
to defeat him you need to create an Anti-Thraxus PC, and even then he has a chance. which is saying something

Indeed...they should have just listed some stuff that Thraxus for whatever reason wouldn't have, or have access too...
and doesn't it say he has over 100 Quadrillion Credits?

I see Thraxus as having a 'personal bodyguard' of around 500 to 1000 of the meanest S.O.B.s in the Three galaxies equiped with the best technological & magickal armor & weapons money can buy(short of each thug caring a rune weapon). Each thug capable of taking out a single platoon of Coalition States veteran grunts with no problems(in a stand up shot em out type of slug fest). Totally loyal to him & not corruptable( the $$$ factor of what Thraxus is paying them).
Plus a small army of around 5000 repo bots(he is on the Naruni board of directors) on beck & call at moments notice. With at least 2-10 repo bots with in 5 feet range of him at all times, another 20 with in 50 feet of him at all time, & an additional 100 with in the same room as he is in(either in plain view or hidden). This is not including his person body guards he has.

Yep. ALSO the one where an renegade/self aware Assassin Droid calmly looks at the Lase Bolt being fired at him, calculates its trajectory accurately enough to where he deflects th Bolt in just the right angle to ricochet it back into the head of his assailant.......gadrin wrote:cornholioprime wrote:I agree with Gleba, on Tales of the Bounty Hunters. is that the one, where Boba Fett snatches the accountant (?) from the Casino, by blowing the walls, but covering up the sound of the explosion with a tech-device ?
that was a neat scene, unfortunately there's only 1 or 2 per book.

That's a little ridiculous. How are you even going to fit that many repo-bots in one area?
There would be 30 repo bots with in 50ft rang of him & another 100 repo bots with in the same room, in plain view or hidden(meaning placed inside a wall, in another room with easy access to the room thraxus is in, etc...)
if ya as rich as thraxus is, he can have rooms as big as he wants.

just to pick a small point, though it doesn't make any difference, whatsoever on how powerful Thraxus is, BUT he is only, Yes ONLY a multi Trillionaire.
For a godling he is very weak, considering the type of combo of powers, i have seen PC godlings take.
Most people have forgotten, his most devastating and most powerful ace up his sleeve, that all rp'ers should know of.
which is his adventurer buddies ( even if those adventurers only numbered a handful, say 4/5 other PC's + Thraxus dungeon crawled together, that still gives a GM gm'ing Thraxus NPC alot of additional power to bring to the table)
another 4/5 Thraxus power lvl characters to bail him out, IF HE EVER GOT INTO ****. Inglix the Mad anyone? if Thraxus is too ****** on his own for your PC.
that is not taking into account any NPC's that OWE Thraxus favours, when he helped them during his dungeon crawling days. how many major/uber NPC's help out your PC group. at least one or two.
the PC's taking on Thraxus, could approach the enemies he made during his dungeon crawling days. considering how powerful Thraxus and his crawling mates are,
i really really don't want to meet the enemies he must have taken on.

Imagine the guy that went for straight up power, not knowledge like Inglix did
that is a good point.
most PC groups tend to go similarly, one character becomes uber warrior, another uber mage. however very rarely do you see a PC become uber rich.
wonder when or if we going to see the NPC that went for straight up power
what other types of characters could Thraxus have hanged around.
I wonder which was the "leader" of the group, or who helped/bailed them out if/when they got into deep ****
Ok...I didn't slog through 3 pages, but here's my two cents...
The reason that Thraxus is so hard to kill is REAL simple.
The PCs will likely never see him...his agents, yes. Holograms of him, yes... Sneak Assault Class level weapons into a social engagement where Thraxus is likely to be? Fat Chance!
You're more likely to meet Inglix face to face in a situation you can actually kill him in.
