I'm fine with it.
For one thing, it slow the players down from learing all the tricks by reading the book they need to play... I'm a big fan of keeping GM books and Player books seperate.

I'm fine with having multiple books. Most games I've played used more than one book.
I want a good core book.
I want a sourcebook, as in a "source" of information, not a source of the designers' plots. A Spell/Magic Sourcebook should just be page after page of magic spells, and rules on incorporating magic into my campaign.
A Monster Sourcebook should just pretty much be a catalog of monsters for me to include (or not as I choose).
An Equipment Sourcebook should read like a Sharper Image catalog, and if there are guns, then the CCW is a good guideline of weapons sourcebooks.

I only really want the magic book. The other book, is full of monsters, and for a game like BTS, i'd rather just make up my own so that my players arn't "prepared" for it.
I go with Geronimo on this, if the books arn't released within a month (or 2) of each other, I will be one p-ed off player, and I am usually really easy going when it come to palladium.

It’s no different than the old AD&D with its Players Guide, GMs Guide and various monster Manuals and no one seemed to mind then. I’d rather they did multiple books if it gives me more and better information.
The only time I think you need more than one book is when everything will not fit in one book. It sounds like everything would not fit in 2e BtS, but I have not even seen 2e BtS to determine that for myself yet.

There is a lot more "fluff" text and setting material in BtS II than there was in 1st ed. It ook up room.
Also there were a couple new PCCs.

A lot of the fluff in this case went into examples dealing with new skills and the silly "threat multiplier" so it's actually fairly useful. It would have been nice to have basic magic rules and/or equipment instead of a very partial monsters listing though.
So long as the system for magic stays consistant with HUII and PFRPG, then I don't have an issue.
If I need more stuff immediately, I can use Nightbane.
Unk, I hope you stay with us.

It'll be if you have a copy I'll read it at the store before I buy it.. Really my favorite gaming/hobby store will be suffering for the unending line of crap thats been put out by this company recently. They wouldn't be able to count on me for a sale any more.
Palladium is the only system I use currently myself. I had given some thought to Silver Age Sentinels (must be the name), but I'm really not so unhappy with Palladium that I need to start a whole new game system.

It is my hope while they may be compatable with HU and PFRPG that they are something new that we have not seen before. As in not just a new printing of the wizard or sorcerer occ.
I'm open to ideas and concepts: I just don't think we need a dozen different classes of mage, if we've already covered the good ones, and I definitely don't want new magic rule mechanics (unless they work better than the old ones).
Having the Arcanist, Diabolist and Summoner would be good enough for me to start.
Having a more authentic VooDoo (Sympathetic Magic) would also be nice: maybe make the Arcanist customizable rather than have a whole new mage OCC.

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to make teasers, but magic in BTS2 is going to have a different flavor. It's not just fantasy magic-users with the serial numbers filed off...
Therumancer wrote:1. Palladium is seperating BTS from the Megaverse? I find that an odd thing to do given the role that BTS played in the backround 'flavor' for RIFTS and such.
Seperation from the Megaverse is quite an overstatement. "Flavor," in as much as psionics and the nature of the supernatural has been changed from the presentation in BTS1. BTS2 is a game of contemporary horror, and as such, magic is going to be presented in that context.

I second that sentiment.
Changing the flavor of the magic system might make sense for a horror game, but it will also carry a lot of disadvantages with it. Among them the fact that it will reduce the abillity of players to pull creatures from other games (HU, RIFTs, PFRPG, etc...) to use as enemies and expand the rogue's gallery.
And that's why I second the above sentiment.
I have mixed opinions because when I hear things like this it usually means that the company plans to re-cycle a lot of old ideas with slightly changed stats.
God, I hope not.
2. I am not pleased with the release of 3 books for the core rules myself, but it's no more differant than what WoTC/TSR has done with <A>D&D through the years with their Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, & Monster Manual trinity. It breaks with Palladium's tradition, but I can't say it especially surprises me.
I doesn't surprise me, nor particularly disappoint me. I recall using PFRPG, Weapons Armour & Castles, and Monsters and Animals for Fantasy. It would be nice to get more stuff into one book, but maybe multiple sourcebooks is a way to get better detail per topic.
