Technojacker in another setting?

Unread post by Glistam »

Reviewing the technojacker description raised a question in me: How would his nanite armor ability work on any other world? The description states that he not only exudes the nanites from his own body, but uses/enslaves other nanites from the atmosphere around him to make it. Would it perhaps cut down the armor MDC by half for both types?

And what about the armor's regeneration? Since the nanites don't reproduce, would his armour ever really be able to regenerate damage off of the splicers world? Would he eventually run out of nanites, eliminating his other powers? Or are his nanites maybe special enough that they can reproduce within his body?

Cat Of Many Faces wrote:did it actually say in the book that the nanites don't reproduce? i would assume that if they don't then they would have gennerally have broken down in about 3-5 years. i assumed the little buggers did myself. not really fast or anything. but enough to keep up with decay.

if they do reproduce then the technomance might be able to induce a speeded up version, which would lead to a recharge time to achieve full strength on their abilities.

not sure about the penalties for not having the abundant environment nano's

They don't reproduce, but in the section where it talks about bringing Splicers characters onto other worlds it only talks about how the nano-plague reacts. It mentions that the nanomachines don't reproduce, but it never states that they eventually die off, freeing the character from the plague.

I've decided to assume that the Technojacker's nano-machines have an indefinite life span, and that while they may not be able to reproduce they can repair each other when damaged (meaning the armor MDC can still repair itself). I figure cutting the MDC of the first type of armor in half (making it 1D4 x 12 instead of 1D8 x 25) off the splicers world is fair, and I'll leave the MDC for the second type of armor the same since it's made on the spot by the nanites out of other materials.

I wouldn't mind some clarification on how long that character can remain "armored up" in either type of armor. The book states that the armor can only be made 6 times per day, but not what the maximum duration is.

I wouldn't say it would be beyond the realm of possibility that they are able to regenerate their nanites. It just fits with their abilities, though maybe requiring them to use their nanites to "eat" some MDC materials to replenish their numbers wouldn't hurt.

Gee no way you mean tell their nanites to build more nanites instead of building nanite scale built armor. :D
