1'st edition, Deluxe Revised. Military strategies are the thing to discuss here. Oh yeah and how much damage that land mine will do.

A copy of the manual printed by the SAS for pro-democracy mercenaries operating in Africa in the mid-1980s.

It even uses the same font as Recon.

Try this site: Scholar's Bookshelf

They put all sorts of military related books on cheap. Just be warned, they are often out of date editions or printings with pages reversed or some such. If you're willing to put up with that kind of thing for a good bargin, you can score some pretty schweet stuff.

Back tot he book: This is a really nice book. Has an entire chapter on how to prepare fighting positions. It also has a chapter on ehalth and hygine in Africa.

The author has an interesting sense of humour. He tells you that you can get rid of lice by dousing your hair with kerosine. He then advises you not to do that while operating the flamethrower.

Aye, that it is.

A few years ago I got a bunch of Jane's books for about 95% off cover.

Do you have any idea where I could find US or British Military survival guides for various climates? I once had WW2 era guides for jungle and desert terrain, but have lost them.

You could always try Amazon.com, they have a decent selection.

A quick search turned up this site http://www.armynavyshop.com/ but I cant say if they are good to deal with or not.

I agree the African Merc Combat Manual is not a CIA publication and that Palladin put it together, it says as much within.

The components do seem to be writen by an Ex-SAS and seems to have been distributed by western government agencies (perhaps through conventional publisers) to pro-democracy mercsoperting or planning on operating in Africa.

I can recomend Soldier without Fortune by John L. Mclure. he was a Mercenary in Nicaragua back durring the 1980's. it's not a glamourous book but it shows what it was like for one Mercenary.

Ghost in the Darkness wrote:I'm thinking about making copies of some of the pages and giving them to the players to illustrate some knowledge that their character would probably possess. That will give them a good idea of what their character would do, when the player (and the GM...me) in reality wouldn't have any idea at all outside the fiction we've seen from Hollywood.

It sure would help with the Tactical Teddy wannabee's that advocate fireing off entire magazines at once, or just spraying a room with bullets.
