I've often heard that in the past, the Special Forces used goats during their medical training. The goat would supposedly be shot, and then the individual would be required to keep it alive for a certain period of time. Could just be an urban myth.

Any way to prove it aside from posting that? Just curious is all, I've been in the army for over 14 years and I've heard it often, though I just passed it off as one of many army urban myths.

I have nothing against using animals for research and what not to benefit mankind, but if it is true I would wonder why they don't use an animal whoe anatomy is closer to ours, like a monkey or an ape maybe.

With as much money as we drop on the most mundane stuff...and the budget SOCOM gets...expense isn't the answer IMO.

Just word of mouth for several current and former SF's that I know, plus the Navy Corpsman attached to my Force Recon unit in Desert Storm claims he did it during BUDs/Seal training as well.

If you were in Force Recon did you not go through BUDs as well? All the Force guys I know did.

I've heard it word of mouth on several occasions as well, but I'm still apprehensive. I'm surprised there has never been a video of it put on the net.

Um, no, BUDs/Seal and USMC Combantant Dive School are different.
Gotcha. My friend informed me that Force Recon guys can apply for training at BUDs as part of their "extended" training. Apparently you guys can apply for Air Force pilot survival school as well. He told me they hold out spots for Recon each calendar year.

my brother did the goat revival thing, so no it's not a myth... And it's not just special forces.
