I would want to live on board the ships in the New Navy. True blue Americans that hate monsters. Thats where I would want to be.
I want to see from Palladium:

As a non-magic non-psionic human...I'd go with CS, NGR, or quebec . If I have enough psionics (maybe i'm a latent pychic, don't know, no powerful leylines around for me to find out) I'd try Republic of Columbia and join the Anti-monster Army.

I'd like to live in Lazlo. One of the few socities more open than others. I find them to be humanties last hope. I don't have to worry about thrown in jail or being shot if I can read and do simple math.

I chose the Republic of Japan. The cities that were teleported away also took with them 1-2 American military bases (It doesn't say yes or no on this, I do know that the Americans aren't just going to pack up and go away until N. Korea is over as a threat, so I'd bet on it that the bases were still there), so I'd like to live there. Lived there once, can live there again. And in Japan, whole bunch of glitter boys, tons of cool robots, not a damn grigleaper in the entire continent. That, and the New Navy keeps a lookout on the nations there, so what better way to kick it with some Americans? I submit to you that there is not.

I chose the kingdom that was built on the ruins of the pre-Rifts city of Dublin (Taramore?) over in Rifts: England. Much of the city has been rebuilt/restored, the standard of living is pretty close to what we have now, and it isn't smack-dab in the middle of a war between humans and mages and/or monsters.

Well, there's also the fact that I'm of partial Irish descent. :ok:

Lazlo, psyscape, and Northern Gun (in that order) are all good ideas. Northern gun has a booming economy (and has for years), not to mention safety due to many mercs with big guns. Talk about somewhere that you dont need to worry about monsters from rifts - its probably the safest place on earth :)

As my favorite place of habitation (Alberta) has become a Dbee infested hellhole (calgary always did suck anyway) I'm thinking NGR, hey a specific, aggressive non human enemy. No moral qualms! Bonus. Or the Megaversal legions. Nice spacefaring humans, like technology, like kicking butt, friends with those who are friendly. tritonia or just about any new navy base would be good, but I'd miss the whole nature thing.

Having lived in Russia, I could handle being in the sovietski, they don't maintain it but the Russians make good hardware.

Another option would be the mutants in orbit, once again the whole blue sky green grass thing is missing, but it seems as though there are less moral dilemmas up there.

As it is I'm kinda stuck in the armpit of America right now, it's not the worst place I could be, but that doesn't make it any more enjoyable because of that. So a post-apocoliptic world doesn't seem like a downgrade from where I'm standing.

Besides, my home is supposed to be infested with faeriefolk and splugorian slave gangs, what better reason do i need to get off planet?

Chi-Town is the only place I can think of where you don't have to worry about suddenly exploding when bitten by an MDC mosquito or something if you're out of your EBA for any length of time.

I don't like the CS ideals or politics, but they're the most likely ones to keep me safe from any one of the near infinite sources of sudden and uttter demise that frequent Rifts Earth.

Its been a long time since I looked Japan over, but I seem to recall there was plenty of danger around there.
You have the Lord of the Deep, Horune pirates and the Nautyll, one of the cities went off on their own, the Otomo (or whatever) and I thought the entire northern half of the island was a demon infested playground, and while I don't have the China book, its in spitting distance as well.

Well, if they didn't insist on speaking French, I'd go with Free Quebec because they have a better news service than they do in the CS (I'm a bit of a news junkie). But since I don't speak french, I have to go with the CS. Chi-Town in particular. Why? Though there are a few civil rights I'd miss, (assuming we're talking about me, now, being transplanted into the world of Rifts and not being born there. Which if that were the case I wouldn't know what I was missing rights wise), the access to super-science medical care, super safety behind the walls of their fortress cities, and still having the right to brear arms as John Q Public, that would be the best way to go. Plus I might be able to get a Dog Boy as a pet! Wouldn't that be sweet? :-D

I think that it would depend on who I was and my situation. For example, if I was Psychic I would like to be in Psyscape, but if I was a magic user then I would probably want to be in Dweomer, Lazlo, or the Colorado Baronies. Now, if I was a normal human I could still choose any of those places that I listed but I think that I would probably choose the NGR for its high tech level and cool robots.

I'd chose Psyscape! :D :ok:
Why?
Because I've wanted to be a Psionic Character for a while now, and the only problem I have is; Do I want to be a Mind Melter or an Astral Lord...
Either way, I'd love to be able to live in the Astral Jewel of Cities, Psyscape!
If I were a Mind Melter, I'd be very comfortable there, with the justice of a truely good society to contribute too, and little worry about Evil attackers in my bedroom.
If I were an Astral Lord (A Nightbane P.C.C.), I'd even give a bit of my Power to the City, and so help it and my fellows. Still, I'd eventually create my own little Astral World, and live there between adventures. :ok:

Gotta consider who you're asking. A fair number of people may like the CS in the abstract, but gamers as a group read a lot. Even though it would be the safest place to be, the idea of not being able to read whatever you want doesn't sit well with many people.

OK, I'll try again. You asked why there were more votes for Lazlo then the CS given the number of people on the boards who like the CS. I was trying to point out that there may be many posters who like the CS in the game, but would not enjoy living there themselves.

It's one thing to play characters in an RPG who don't read and have very little personal freedom, it's another thing entirely to contemplate giving up the freedoms we enjoy in RL to live under a totalitarian regime that tells you what to think and do all your life.

Not trying to bust on you, if I knew about Lazlo (I think I saw it mentioned in Rifts: Canada, but I was more concerned with looking up the Tundra Rangers at the time,) it would be my second choice, but I would still have a strong case for MercTown where you pretty much have the same freedom to read, learn, and do whatever you darn well pleased in addition to having a steady supply of work in the profitable merc trade.
And hey, MercTown is fairly cosmopolation too...

What Kalinda said about being in the CS if you actually had to live there yourself making it a distasteful place to be was spot on.

But I also like your MercTown, psionicninja, as a "surrogate" Lazlo.

It's all about the freedom.

Anyone else besides me realize that if you ended up in the Coalition States, a creation of Rifts, that you wouldn't be allowed to read Rifts????

Merc town is good too, though it's economy is somewhat vulnerable, being almost wholly dependent on the mercenary trade. If the work dries up for the mercs, so does the town's revenue.(not a problem in the short term, but you never know what the future will bring.)

I know it isn't 100% safe, but so what? NO place is really 100% safe, and I would gladly take my chances to open my 3rd eye, and be a Mind Melter or an Astral Lord. It's well worth the risk to me. :ok:

As to a second choice; I'd chose The New Empire of Japan(Let's face it, Anime Mecha as a reality, and some really cute ladies....*sigh*) or the old standby: Lazlo(Very accepting of others, I might still learn to become a Mind Melter or a Magician of some sort, and D-Bee hotties...*sigh*)

Yes, I know, my wife would *KILL* me if she read this post, but I'll just take that chance and, at worst, have to learn bio-regeneration real quick...

Um, CS citizens dont have the right to arm themselves. That would be a threat to Proseks power.

I find it quite likely that you can own a gun in Lazlo. Now, I doubt you can carry MD weapons around in the city proper, but that's another matter.

As for smoking and eating meat, they're undoubtedly legal, as well.

As for the other element, I'll avoid discussing it on a board that minors can monitor.

Lazlo strikes me as one of theose places (like in Demolition Man) where bad things are outlawed for the god of the collective.
There is almost definitely a restriction on behaviour for Supernatural Evil Creatures with natural (instinctive) Appetites for Destruction and Mayhem...........

But I can't think of anything else in particular that Lazlo would make restrictive laws against.........

Agreed, Lazlo strikes me as a pretty free society.

There is canon evidence to suggest that yes, citizens of Lazlo own MD weapons. The "army" of Lazlo is in fact a militia of all volunteer citizens. Thus, being civilians that come together when danger threatens, they would almost certainly have their own weapons. Much like the early militias of the American colonies.
