PHASE WORLD: Golgan military OCC's?
The republikan guard, the mainstay of the golgan rebublik, is comprised of only Golgan. They do not trust anyone else to lead troops. But in the Golgan racial description, they are incapable of becoming true men at arms.
So... who the hell is in the feared Rebuplican Guard?
I am currently envisioning a military specialist with only basic fighting skills: a lot of book smarts, but no real combat experience. Basically, an entire army of West point officer grads, and no grunts.
Since the Golgan military will be featured heavily in my new campaign, I am looking for input to this little dilemma.

The Lurgess...?
Not sure, as I haven't really used them yet. I was thinking along the same lines as when the Breen allied themselves to the Cardassiains in the 6th and 7th seasons of Deep Space 9.
They would be highly isolated, none of the Consortium members know anything about them. The Lurgess have their own ships...and maybe specialise in bio-warfare.
As for the Ultrovians... again not sure. They like to think that they have great magic skills, even though they kind of suck at it. I love that idea. Maybe there are ancient ruins on their homeworld that connect to a planet deep in the core, thereby allowing them to bypass the whole Threshold region... pyramids, maybe?

As of last session, the Golgan have attacked and liberated Kablinka. Formerly in the TGE, the Lurgess world is now a part of the Republik, its Kreeghor masters laid to waste in an unprecedented show of Golgan force.
In gratatude, the Lurgess have now become the front line soldiers for the Republik, which is why the Golgan helped free the planet in the first place.
So, the TGE and the Golgan are now at war...though the Kreeghor have no idea how the Golgan got such powerful ship and weapons technology so fast...

Golgan Republikan Guard
Hi there!
I imagined the GRG, as the ultimate push-button warfare
army (and navy), since they only heave golgans in
the GRG, ant the aux. is made of mainly the subjugated
races.
So, as long as they have the better recon (and they
tend to have it) the GRG can pick out targets from
a distance.
On the other hand, if they are suprised, they tend to panic.

hi everyone
Well im doing this bid on memory alone. The Golgan army is made up by the Golgan RCC, so far i think ur right Braden. Also their atrributes scores do not immediately suggest that they would become very good soldiers i mean strength, dexterity and endurance wise.
I also seem to remember that they are equipped with the best weapons and equipment that the Naruni has to offer yes? Also remember that heavy weapons can be used with a servo-harness or moved around on a gravity platform etc - they dont need to be Rambo Musclemen
The only book i do have here with me is the Rifts Ultimate edition which im currently reading. When u read the Coaliton Grunt OCC description in that book and get to requirements it states:
A high PS and PE are suggested but not required. Anybody with the spirit to fight (for humanity since its coalition ) and physical attributes not less than 7 can become a coalition grunt.
Average scores for the Golgan RCC is PS:9 and PE:8, of course some may be lower - they dont qualify and can become pilots, scientists, scholars etc. Some will be higher and therefore good grunts or other military OCC. But the "average" Golgan does qualify to become a Grunt soldier.
So in my opinion sure Golgans are fit for being men at arms OCCs, and i think the Golgan are welltrained and well motivated - they kick ass
Hope u can use it Braden, c ya

Hi there!
Actually I am just dusted my Golgan Republikan Guard
stuff, and made some corrections and additions...
Some 27 pages. Unfortunately in Hungarian.
The Republik is falling apart, and doing it for
more then a hundred year now. Maybe 300
hundred, as I recall. Once they have been
a mightier empire (sorry: Republik )
than the TGE today, now they are a second
rate power, even in their galaxy, and third rate
in the 3 Galaxies
Also, their leadership is shy, to be modest.
So their morale is low IMO.
Their physical abilities are below human standard,
expecially puny compared to the awkward NE guns.
On the other hand, they have their own technology,
which is outdated a bit, but souped up by Naruni
stuff.
Remember in the 3 gals a hundred years old design
is still something to be take seriously, especially
if it is updated.
A very significant part of of their populace has
the Heightened Sense of Sight "power". They tend to
be as intelligent on the average, as a very smart human.
Also they are very solid mentally.
As long as they can count on mechanised forces (PA
and up) plus their upper command level does not
mix up things (and they often do) they funtion
very efficiently, perhaps with the exception of close
quarters figting.
Finally: if you are a pirate or an outside power, which attack
Golgan space - you got fried, pulverised and blown by the
solar winds.
If you want to rebel against the Republik - start it now.

My current players are all new to the Phase World setting, so sometimes I have to describe the various power blocs in real world terms.
"the Golgan Rebuplik is like.... uh, what's a really crappy nation tht no one pays attention to?... Argentina or possibly Communist China. Yeah. They are closed off, insular, and people in the rest of the Anvil tend to give them a wide berth."
So when they attacked the TGE, I said "immagine the shock if Argentina attacked the Soviet Union for no reason...and was winning."
The Golgan are great at getting others to do things for them...therefore I immagine an entire army of leutenants, but no grunts. Which kind makes no sense. I think they can take a basic soldier OCC, but that they will get their ass handed to them on the field. They compensate for their fightign weakness by loading up on technology.

Cmon Braden they are not that inferior to humans, i dont see it. Its true that their physical attributes dont seem impressive but as i stated above they are equal to or a little below humans when u look on their average physical attribute scores (humans have an average atrribute of 9 when u roll 3d6) and in intellect and other areas they are superior to humans. Dont forget that physical atrributes can bee boosted with physical skills. In my game u do NOT want to **** off a Golgan grunt soldier from the Republikan Guard.
I agree that a Golgan vs. Kreegor in hand to hand combat is bad for the golgan but when protected by the latest Naruni Thermo - Kinetic Armor, a forcefield and a badass plasma cartridge rifle it does look better doest it. also take into consideration that the Golgans are smart (they may be bereucratic but that does not mean stupid) and should be able to figure out how to match the Kreegor (for example teaming up 3 to 1 on their enemies whenever its possible etc, ambushes instead of facing them directly etc).
Dont underestimate them, i think they r cool
c, ya

Oh I think they're cool as well. In fact, my entire Phase World campaign has to do with them.
They are the Cardassians in this setting.

Hi there!
Cardies after the Klingon invasion, but before
the Dominion pact, yes.
Remember, they are puny. Their phisycal
attributes are similar to an overweight
12 year old. Or his grandpa.
Now, give him an enviromental armor
(8 kgs - remember they are bigger than humans),
a plasma rifle with around 150 rounds (15 kgs)
plus field equipments (canteen, etc, 3 kg) and
they will collapse after several hundred meters
of walks, gasping for air.
But if you put 'em into PA and warpods, they
will do just fine. Give them VR, let them use
ECM/ECCM and they will kick any "6", unless
they have a really stupid order (which still
makes sense from a broader point of wiev or
from the other side of a desk).

Golgan Army likely uses Light Long range weapons ( after all most have superior Genetics) and unconventional weapons ( ice, sonic, thermal, etc)
they will also likely be able to afford MDC skin armor ( FAS Armor would be about 50 to 80 MDC for a SKIN TIGHT Light armor)
As for the Uvolians, I think they make great use of the Gravity well spell to move their Craft about, which aren't very big, probably look more like Fancied up Zeppelins.
