Erick, so where are the stats for the gryphon hidden?

Unread post by gordyzx9r »

So there I am, bored, and I decide to work on an NPC and I'm going through the psionics...and lo and behold; more minutia. Under the psionic Animal Control it talks about how Chimeras must buy the psionic for each of it's separate animal types. It talks specifically about the gryphon...are the stats for this mutant animal written in invisible ink :? ?

:D

And since I brought up psionics...Danger sense!?! What's up with the note that you have to specify using it!?! What's the point of having it then, I mean if your worried that your walking into danger...it's getting redundant. I mean, to me, this should be something that once you get it the power is in O-N mode all the time.

I know where it's at...my question is what's the point of having to activate it in order to use it? The whole reason I would think people would want this is because they want to know when an apparently innocuous situation could turn ugly.

Well it is a bit silly if you have to activate it. I would just leave teh duration out of the equation and treat it like 6th sense or the hero power Danger Sense.

Reading it closer the discription says two different things....one that they get an idea of what the danger is...the other saying its like 6th sense and it only puts the char on alert.

Maybe what its saying is that you have to turn it on to get those pre-c0gnitive flashes about what the danger is..... but the it auto warns about some sort of danage.

That was my intent...just curious as to why it was written the way it was.

Personally, as a Game Master, I tend to forget about things like 'danger sense' unless I'm reminded. Since I hate having to deal with compaints ('hey! Why wasn't I warned?'), I'd rather put the burden on the player.

Any Game Masters with better memories are welcome to allow an 'always on' warning, but it should be up to the GM, not the player.

Erick

HOLY SMOKE BATMAN, I can't believe I never bothered to read that ability before! FINALLY, an actual fix for Sixth Sense that doesn't contradict itself in the description fifty-two million times and actually makes sense! You da man Erick, when you fixed stuff in ATB2, you really fixed stuff.

Wasn't there a format for creating mutant animals published somewhere? I thought the template was based off SL20 and working backwards or something like that?

That's how I'd go about it...at least until I start doddering away.

The article on how to create a mutant animal template was printed in one of the Rifters a year or two ago, not sure which issue (anyone have a indexed issue/article list they can share?). It did a good job of walking you through the process, but don't be affraid of putting some personal touches on the final product.

not sure if you're still looking for the stats.

but i noticed on page 2 of the AtB forum here - under the 'mythological beasts' .. the Gryffon was listed along with the full stats.

hope that helps.

I was being somewhat sarcastic. But thank you, and yes the mythological mutants rock.
