Interesting catch 22; if I justify myself by saying I've made no mention of recoil, it's like treating your expectations as the ones I'm supposed to live up to in this thread.
If I don't mention it and merely , the behaviour goes unchallenged because of that, probably gains a certain amount of legitimacy in the eyes of careless readers.

This weapon sucks anyway. Its just a laser that does a lot of damage. Its a ROLL playing weapon. Not a ROLE playing weapon. Challange yourself and make a vagabond with the cooking skill (as presented in the latest Rifter...cool skill by the way) armed with nothing but a Wilks laser pistol, an SDC knife in your boot, a .22 derringer, and a partial suit of Plastic man armor (just the chest plate). Oh yea, and a spatula. Now thats role playing!
I did that to my players in a game once. One of them had to run down a "fire lane" against a .50 cal machine gun with no armour...just street SDC clothes! He took some NASTY wounds, but managed to make it into the warehouse where all the body armours and MD weapons were stored. (He was running AWAY from the gun at the time, since it was up the street from the warehouse he was trying to get to...)
