Not much to debate on so far. give us some real material and then we'll talk.

goodlun wrote:It is time once again for another comment from our grand master of Keno-Waza. This is to respond to prospective students why it is we don't bother training in weapons.

Lets face the facts ladies and gentelmen the year is 2005 almost 2006 the main reasons now to learn a Keno-Waza is a meathod of defending ones self. Although its an aggressive form of defense it is impractical due to the leggal system out here in CA(and a good portion of the world) for us to ask our students to carry weapons with them where ever they go. If your not going to have the weapon with you why bother wasting time on it when you can be focusing on techniques that you can use almost all the time.
Lets also face it the only weapon really worth learning now is the use of a gun which we do encourage our students to go ahead and take a class at there local range but they methods of fighting with a gun and Keno-Waza just are not compatible.

Some fun facts for you.
The knife is one of the most commonly found weapons in the history of the world.
Improvised weapons, especially fist loads, can be quite handy in gaining the upper hand in a fight...if you know how to use it.
Guns run out of ammo.
Guns are not magic wands.

Hrmmm when I used to live in CA, I carried 2 knives, a 14inch weighted dowl rod and I wore weighted gloves, all were visable enough to not be considered concealed weapons, and I never had a problem.

Also, home defense is always nice, you can have whatever in your house

meh...
my cousin got into a notable number of fights back in the day (i actually based one of my old N&SS martial arts on his methodology)... and most went from yelling in the guys face, to stomping on his throat in 2.5 seconds... tops... but then, he was a burly enough guy to not really need a weapon...

as for pocket knives... 3 inches is all you need to put a guy down if you put the steel in the right place...

so it's all a matter of opinion... either you gotta teach yourself how to utilize the weapon without looking like a threat off the bat (unless you want to draw attention to yourself...) or you've gotta train yourself to hit properly, and accurately to down the target...

of course, this assumes you wanna be the aggressor off the bat...
I believe Socrates said it best at, "I drank what?"

One of the problems with comparitive analogies in fighting, is that there are so many variables.
It becomes difficult to isolate certain crucial elements, and keep it to "all things being equal", etc.
No one would argue that a gun vs an unarmed opponent is heavily favoring the weapon, but if the weapon is holstered and the combatants are 2 feet apart, then it becomes different.
The Sai Vs the Sword is no fair contest, unless the sword is forced to fight in cramped quarters, and so on.
