Underseas and Chaos Earth

Unread post by Josh Sinsapaugh »

I am posting this simply as a reminder to Chaos Earth players as it seems that many of them overlook this book.

Rifts® World Book 7: Underseas™ is a tremendous resource for Chaos Earth and here is some reasons why:

1. Pre-Rifts U.S.A. Military Equipment: First and foremost the book is loaded with (in the New Navy section) U.S. Military equipment and even a few O.C.C., although it would be unwise to incorporate the New Navy into a Chaos Earth campaign the arms and armor found in Underseas represent the U.S. Military (most specifically the Navy and Marine Corps) at large.

Adding helpful, disenfranchised and/or rogue (as in against NEMA) US military forces to your game will add levels of plot depth the likes of which you cannot imagine until you try it.

"So, you guys are in Chicagoland to help us, right?"

"Guess again kid, we don't answer to anybody...especially not some NEMA lap dog."

2. Ofcourse, the Monsters: Now, I know what you are going to say: "Josh, a majority of creatures from Underseas won't work in an urban setting and furthermore a campaign set on the tumultous sea shore would be unrealistic."

Well, you are half right: a campaign on the sea shore would be unrealistic as all those on the coast were stamped out during the early throes of the cataclysm...you are wrong for the first part though.

In the Urban setting of Chaos Earth nearly constant rain, snow and floods batter Chicagoland and other urban strongholds across north america, effectivly transforming a city into a marsh of concrete and steel. Parking lots become lakes, drainage ditches rivers, parking garages and subways become underground seas and rivers.

By its very nature Chaos Earth is often an aquatic environment.

3. Tritonia and the New Navy in general: Of course these two factions should never play a role on what is happening on the mainland as they have their own problems to deal with. But what of those problems?

Campaigns (and very interesting ones at that) can be set following one of these factions as they respond in their own ways to the cataclysm. The book even gives a brief outline on how these two factions weathered the cataclysm. A little grease work and some imagination and said campaigns can be golden.

Indeed, Rifts® World Book 7: Underseas™ is an invaluable resource for Chaos Earth Campaigns.

Check it out. ]

I liked the Navy (Ticonderoga and stuff) I had to use it for my HU campaign.

Well a big number of my Volunteer militia fighters use the Navy and Marine,s body armor.

They also use some of same Weapons of the New Navy,s Marines,What they are they call? M-80, or some thing?

It,s Call Chaos Earth, so am doing a game where a Ohio-class was rifted to the Great lakes.

From What I remmber the New New stay in a Base for 20 years I think?

That's a damn good idea! I like it and honestly had never considered that before. Thanks for the inspiration! :ok:

I'd like to see how that works. Not saying that it couldn't or that it is a bad idea.

Hell, it is a good idea.

I just want to see it in application, it be cool.

Rifts Underseas, pg 107 wrote:"Finally, he said those who wanted to leave would be discharged from the Navy, given a sidearm, and sent to the shore of his choice. Of the 18,000 people gathered at the base (including additional survivors gathered from the other bases and experimental underwater colonies), only 200 took this way out. They were given a small supply ship to take them where they pleased and were never heard of again.

Just thought I'd point that out. Sounds like an interesting background for a character in a Chaos Earth campaign.
