Well the style of combat ( if you call it a style) in the start of the film. Well more than a few of my friend remarked that It was the same when the would watch me in pit fights. (I was young and stupid and what ever else will keep people from flaming me) And i wondered if there was a style that really incorporated that... i'm trying to think how to word this I called it true combat. Hurt, maim, destroy, or break; whatever it takes to crush your advisers. destroy what ever comes near you, ripe open cheeks tear off ears shatter limbs. When i ended up teaching Hand to hand In 3/75th a good friend and team mate asked me have i ever lost a fight. The only answer i knew to tell him is the fight isn't over till you win. This is a universal truth i know it in my bones. And if there is a school that teaches this i may have found a home i have been looking for. It may sound hooky but i haven't been comfortable in a school since i left Hand to hand instructor course at Ft. Riley.

nowadays... too many styles are concerned with safety when training...

so being limited to exposure in the US, i can't tell you off the bat any style what specifically focuses on "anything goes" fighting... it's hard to teach a guy how to not care about his own safety when in a fight... let alone how to rip an ear off effectively.... without actually doing it...

really,
representing the character in the movie would prolly be best done with something at simple as Hand to Hand Basic,
and alot of natural ability (high PP, PE, PS)

tho i'm sure there are more well-traveled fellows out there who can tell you better...

I am way to old for that now back in my 20s and early 30s I would have love going in to real compititions

To be perfectly blunt, though, I personally think this attitude you believe "in your bones" is a completely moronic and suicidal way to approach dangerous situations outside of controlled environments like the ring. "Beating" the other guy is great when it comes down to competitive sports, but it really loses its importance when multiple attackers and lethal weapons like knives, chains, and guns are added to the mix.
Most hand to hand form fall apart when someone pulls a weapon ( there are a few notable exception). You may not believe it now but when you getting 14 stichs in your forearm .

I don't know of any competent self-defense instructor (whether TMA or not) that would advocate such a clearly self-endangering approach.
I don't know about controlled environment but if a pool stick is the most dangerous thing your facing hanging back is just silly, yes your going to get hit. It happen suck it up and drive on. To Me mabe not you it just seems right to finish with the one on before moving to the next. Suicidal I don't think so save for some minor cut and bruises the worst I've got in a fight was a couple broken noses, 3 cracked, 1 broke rib, 14 stichs on my arm and nice stab wound in the upper right of me back. It seem like a lot but thats over 20 years. Got some great pic of the scares pm if ya want to see them. Oh and chics i met don't dig scare, My wife loves me besides them.

Laterz.

I never claimed to be a pit fighter I said i have fought in "pit fights. A true pit fighter would be some does it for a living Not 6 or 7 fight for the thrill and cash. And as for it being retarded...Well i can see were it would scare you don't feel bad not everyones ready to test there courage and skill against another person without the safety a teacher/doesha/sansei or a judge there to stop it when it gets heated. But if you change your mind. I'll tell ya how to find the fight in your area, easiest is start going to the good kick boxing gyms in your area. If your luck a Mixed Martial train camp. Young fighters are always looking for an outlet and the experience. Watch a few the see if your opinion changes. If your a fighter at all i believe it will.

as for styles in njSS that cover such brutality...

Take a look at the demon Wrestling in Mystic China, And combine it with certain moves from the other older chinese boxing ...

but Jet li has mastered Wu shu ( NJSS has this wrong and limited it to women) , Shaolin, and Chao ta ( HK Fake Fighting) ..

as for ripping people's Cheeks, You'd need strong fingers for that, so That's a few Body Exercises there just to get to that guy's level of brutality.

There's also the skill " Stalk and Capture" from PFRPG ( and it was introduced again in Western Empire ) and in Some other new book that will help you do fun stuff in hand to hand

thanks,
i needed a good laugh...

kick boxing?
training camps?

all these places have someone on hand to patch you back up at the end of the fight...
if there's any kind of official assosiation with the building your in, there's always that safety net...

i've seen a fair number of "unrestricted" brawls/fights in my time,
and been in a number of ones where it wasn't in a place of safety,
the difference is tremendous.

people are willing to fight further, and harder when they know there's someone within striking range who cares if they survive the fight,

i've seen a guy with a messed up leg keep fighting in a "until someone begs for mercy" match 'cause he knew when the fight ended someone would get him to a doctor... (dislocated or some such thing from a bad joint lock...)

and similarly seen a guy beg for mercy when his knee got broken 'cause he knew none of the pot-heads watching cared if he had to crawl through downtown detroit just to get where the ambulances would come...

so, short of saying you've gone out and hunted gang-bangers with nothing but a billy club,
don't come saying pit fights in a gym with an audience are any different than a dojo sparring match.

skill doesn't come from getting yourself messed up,
just tolerance for stupidity...

if you have to get to grappling on the floor, you've done something wrong in the first place... fights are never ment to be fair, or long.

but then this is just my opinion,
and pretty much every fight i've been in that was serious has ended in someone on the ground with something broken, or bleeding... so i don't really have a high opinion of the Ultra-HardCore-Mario-Ultimate-Super-Fighter types...

Ok mabe i have this wrong when i said pit fight i meant non-sanctioned nonpro, fight for money. I don't know anything about hunting down gang bangers for fights. And wasn't talking street brawls because you don't get paid. (Unless you roll the guy) I'm talking 50-100 dollar buy in winner take all fights. (With a good bit of betting on the side) None of this has anything to do what i wanted to know in the first place. Tho i do enjoy the conversations. :D

So, I guess nobody's seen the movie then?
There you go man, keep as cool as you can.
Face piles of trials with smiles. It riles
them to believe that you perceive the web they weave
and keep on thinking free.

so-called "real" pit fights involve nothing more than 2 drunk dudes flailing away at each other hoping NOT to get hit . i'd rather watch a cat fight.

oh yeah. an ambulance will pick you up ANYWHERE in detroit. please dont perpetuate a stereotype. :)

all you need to be a "pit fighter" in NSS or HU is HTH basic and some big "musk-cles".

you know, i'd like to believe the ambulance thing,
but considering i've been three blocks from a hospital (Balduck Park on Chandler Park Drive) and had no ambulance come for a major accident...

as well as just off m-10 and been told by two different hospitals that i "wasn't in their jurisdiction, but the other hospital was..." and thus, neither would send an ambulance...

it's not everywhere in the damn city, i'll give you that,
but there are places, and people...

but back on topic...
i agree on the "pit fighter" thing,
there's no need for a HtH for it, as most don't really have one to begin with...

You're thinking of Wui Wing Chun: it's obviously based on Wing Chun, which is reportedly developed by a Buddhist Nun (although she was supposed to have been taught by a Shaolin Monk who survived the destruction of teh Temple).
Wui Wing Chun is exclusive to women.
Wing Chun (some spell and pronounce it Ving Tsun) is not.

Other than in N&S I've never heard of Wui Wing Chun (btw - nothing is as odd as the Vietnamese romanization of it)
i think its just another made up variant of a real art. wing chun (ving tsun) is an art taught to both genders and i ignore that gender rule to that art.
