I realize it's been said but I've got to chime in here with my heartfelt gratitude! Thank you for the map mobuttu! Now what I'd like to do is get it sized to fit my refrigerator so I can move game pieces like MAGNETS. I might help my players envision exactly where they are. *wink*

I'm really glad for your support. It's good to hear you are getting use and enjoying my Rifts NA map!! :D

I'd also buy a map from Palladium but unfortunelly it seems it won't happen soon (according to Kevin words in POH interview).

I just wish we had official rules for how common ley lines are so I know I could device fairly if one is nearby or not. That is one of my biggest disappointments.

Mobuttu you should take a look at the Canada book. It has some info that would be good on the map. Simvan ranges. Where Psistalker ranges are etc.

Thanks for the feedback. Already done. Take a look at these blog entries about my (future-to-be) Tribal wars campaign. Click on the maps to enlarge them.

Those map layers are not in the NA map to avoid "overlayering".

Could you do a version that is a PDF using the the same size as the NA map so it can be printed on acetate? then it can be layered on as needed. :)

I was under the impression that the ley lines in a given area fluctuated based on the time of year, ambient levels of magic, and other things that I can't think of right now.

That is true. AFAIK, stable ley line *potency* do fluctuate, but not it's location. Although new unstable ones would appear/disappear through these processes (that is the magic of Rifts!) :D

Could you do a version with them. I want to print out a version with them in place. When you zoom in I do not see an issue with it. And i would like to print it out with all the info :)

Mobuttu:

Wanted to let you know that this map has helped my group tremendously. I was able to get it printed out nicely sized @ work.

And I've sent it to my gaming group, as we Skype from 3 locations - having your map allows up to see the same information, at a glance, and explain some of the powers-at-play to the newer players w/o pulling out loads of books.

Please keep up the great work (I'd donate if I could).

I dont think Chi-Town is in the middle of Illinois. I believe it should be just south of Chicago.

Doesn't the GM guide have it marked slightly in between the center and the ruins of Chicago?

By the looks of the GMG, it would seem that they have it nearly due south from Chicago, where as Mobuttu's map has it more west and slightly more north. The location of Chi-Town was previously discussed in another thread (I can't remember off hand), but I do remember that someone had said that the best location for it would have been where two (or more) interstate highways cross. By looking at an actual map of Illinois, the best two cities would be Champaign (where I-72 and I-57 cross), which happens to be roughly 80-100 miles due south, and Peoria (where I-55, I-72, and I-39 go to or through) which is roughly 80-100 miles southwest of Chicago. They are both fantastic places for Chi-Town to be, and the most important part is that they are both about 80 miles south of the ruins of Chicago. And as for the maps in the books, I look at them like I would an old west frontier map. The locations may be off a little and the scale may not be right, but as long as it is roughly 75% correct or better, I am happy.

Will this be a global map? Not entirely clear on what a GIS map is. I am semi familiar. IE I know it is a computer map. I just don't know what a GIS map entails or how they work.

Excellent map, so awesome.

The location of Chi-Town in the books is actually fairly vague. Rather than tell us exactly where Chi-Town is, we are told that the ruins of old Chicago are "...some 80 miles northeast of Chi-Town." (RUE p29/RMB p141). Apart from that we have only a dot on a relatively small map. That dot looks a lot more south than southwest, in fact if you draw a line from Old Chicago to St Louis on that map then Chi-Town is on the east side of that line, whereas you would expect Chi-Town to be clearly west of that line if you conclude it is roughly 80 miles southeast of Chicago as it is on this map.

To be honest I'm happy keeping it there for the moment because your map is so much more superior to anything published I'd rather stay with that.

Also where you have it puts it quite close to the Illinois River which makes perfect sense. A town in a post apocalyptic setting would naturally be built near a fresh water supply.

That is also assuming that Chi-Town is almost exactly southwest, when it could be anywhere from south-southwest to west-southwest and so forth...

There was a question involving the Waukegan CSN base. I would assume that the CS has simply moved into the US Navy's Naval Education and Training Center Great Lakes, in Waukegan, Illinois. I spent 6 months in that place, and have a handful of great memories, and many more I'd rather not revisit (basic training) at that place. A bit too flat for this Georgia Boy.

Like everyone else, I think this is an amazing map, and I find it invaluable.

One thing that's been driving me crazy though is this town on the Ohio River called Blackberry.

What is it? I can't find it in any of the books. I don't know where to look. Help!

Just wanted to chime in the your map came in extremely helpful in a session last month, when we were determining how to travel to escort a VIP between Merctown to Lazlo. Your shadings & showing where CS 'owned' locations were, helped the less-experienced-in-Rifts players realize that going from point A to point B in a straight line is NOT a wise idea.

Hope to see more information as you work your way through the other books.

Happy holidays!

This is a really useful resource that ive seen used in games and used myself. Its also great for getting a better understanding of Rifts-NA as a whole.

I saw that there was an earlier version of this (1.2 i think) as a png, which loads far quicker(for me) than the pdf. Very useful.
