Should be getting around to being up-to-date on this soon.
Once I get back today from my on-call gig, I should be able to get my muse to work.

Oh, I respect them...but sometimes....well, sometimes you wish the parents, like certain lizard species, had eaten their own young.

Still no update; due to fellow players in another campaign I play in screwing the plot over.
...AND finding out I'm on deck (double duty for today and Saturday) all weekend.
Yeah, my muse has run off to hide because i'm fit to chew battleship plate and spit rail-line spikes. :badbad:

[June 13th. Must be a Tuesday. Pt.01]
5 days pass after the mission to Tolkeen is concluded. The uncontrolled ley-line storms fade away to passable levels and the chaos-magic effects no longer plague the North American continent. All Phoenix Force Alpha remembers though is blurry images of metallic giants with cannons the size of most robot vehicles, Brodkil packs, children who were not children, and a human skull carved with esoteric runes and sigils. What they do know, is that for 5 days their captain, Rika Hanlah-Falkon, has been in a medical facility undergoing neurological tests. This brings forth paranoia in both Fionna Faraday and Thomas Carmichael.
They KNOW the other shoe is going to drop.

Surprisingly, they were correct.

On June 13th PA 109 (a Tuesday) all active members of Phoenix Force team Alpha were summoned to an emergency meeting at Phoenix Nest via text message, with the additional note that absentees would be penalized with the highest penalty. NO ONE was absent. The team gathered in the main briefing room as orderlies and enlisted ratings set up water jugs & glasses and a VERY large stack of file folders on top of the main desk. As they settled into their chairs, an sense of oppressive dread fell on the room…not alleviated as Maj. Katherine Dalhousie walked into the briefing dressed in her best formal body-glove and full rank insignia.
The diminutive full-conversion borg did not speak, instead letting the data-jack attached to her tail plug into the discrete holo-projector built into the desk, as she opened up the top file folder and began to read. In the ensuing silence, the recorded mission data from Jack Chirax, Thomas Carmichael & Archangel’s visual recorders played back above everyone in digitally enhanced high-definition glory.

As the mission footage played and the major kept reading through the files, the team began to know fear. The Major obviously was NOT happy with them at all. In fact, when the mission videos ran down all she asked was; “Questions? Excuses?”

It took a while for the team to have a member gather enough courage to try and explain what had happened.
The major listened intently and then;
“You technically succeeded in your mission. The chaos-magic and ley-line storms have calmed down. Yet here I have reports of multiple instances of insubordination, inter-team friction, failure to listen to the acting field officer, the death of a child…and you’ve broken your captain!”

Shock greeted the last words as the major mercilessly kept on;
“Yes. Rika Hanlah-Falkon is presently undergoing treatment on her homeworld for Feral Regression Syndrome. The ‘Experts’ tell me it only occurs in cases where extreme and continuous emotional stresses become too much for the NuMan to handle. To add to this, there are no medical staff in the Warphunter guild hall here with experience or training to deal with a case this severe.

Ah yes, complaints, the most devastating thing to ever hit a campaign.

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

Tanks pulling off a sneak attack? Ooookay, that sounds like a valid complaint, especially driving through a forest without making any kind of noise (even in the Robotech books they point out crashing through heavy jungle in several of the books is not particularly quiet). I vaguely remember the Twilight 2000 game and don't believe they had anything that allowed for noise negation especially at the level required to hide tanks crashing through a forest.

I vaguely remember the Twilight 2000 game and don't believe they had anything that allowed for noise negation especially at the level required to hide tanks crashing through a forest.

Yeah, it got the GM voted 'Most likely to be admitted to the ER for surgical removal of game dice from spleen'.

NOBODY would play with him GMing without their own copies of the rules.
And when he roleplayed as a Security Officer in a Star Trek game, the rest of the PC crew cringed...

Well if the tanks are in place ready for an ambush they might be able to get the drop on an enemy troop unit moving past them. They just have to wait in a cold mode until the ambush is set off. Especially if they can get off the first shot.

Nice thought, but that wasn't how it went off.
It was more like 'while you were sneaking around the perimeter of the Soviet encampment, the tank crept up behind you and slit your throats'.

That was pretty much the players' reactions too...

"Now, soldier, if you saw a battleship coming across the parking lot towards you, what would you do?"(*proper/anticipated response is to report it)
"I'd grab a torpedo and sink it, sir!"
"Where the hell would you get a TORPEDO?!"
"Same place you got that damn battleship, sir!"

The major listened intently and then;
“You technically succeeded in your mission. The chaos-magic and ley-line storms have calmed down. Yet here I have reports of multiple instances of insubordination, inter-team friction, failure to listen to the acting field officer, the death of a child…and you’ve broken your captain!”

Shock greeted the last words as the major mercilessly kept on;
What
did
you
do
to
my
CAPTAIN!?”
...
Fionna began to take the blame upon herself, but was soon interrupted by a husky female voice from behind the group, addressing Fionna by her nickname ‘Firedancer’. A tall very feminine form rose from the shadows of the back of the room and stalked forwards. Both male & female members of Team Alpha reacted as if they were in the presence of a well groomed panther: something beautiful but lethal. Maj. Dalhousie differed to the woman and stepped aside after introducing her as “Dame Heart-Render.”

The woman (a raven haired NuMan, that mixed European & Asiatic features) continued the introductions, naming herself Myra Saei-Plato CR-027, Nexus 4. Founder of Phoenix Force Primus.
The team noticeably hushed at this and felt as if the executioners axe was about to descend. Myra however did not lay blame or point fingers, spreading the fault to all members equally and then hammering home the point they no longer had an acting Captain. She leveled her green cats-eye gaze on both Jack Chirax and Shalyndra Bhaza-Khaine; asking repeatedly “Who is acting executive officer? Who does command fall to when the commanding officer is otherwise incapacitated?” When Fionna’s name was spoken by the team, Myra then asked;
“Will this be a problem?”
She asked three times, and on the final answer of ‘yes’ she relaxed and then informed the team that they had succeeded in their primary mission, and due to that fact, they were to be paid full commission and detached from active duty until further notice, while their Captain, Rika, recovered.

Team Alpha were dismissed and thought they had all managed to get away Scott free.
Until an enlisted rating took Jack Chriax aside and informed him that high-command (Re; Myra & Maj. Dalhousie) wished for him to undergo “remedial training in small units tactics”. Jack was resigned to this and waved farewell to his compatriots as they left Phoenix Nest, and turned to follow the rating to his temporary quarters.

The rest of the group spilt up to take care of their own affairs. Garrus & Fionna to her apartment, Thomas & Uno to his workshop on the Sleipnir (which was soon after taken off-line due to routine maintenance and inspection of the magicite batteries), and Shalyndra to her new house where she went to her underground meditation chamber. The elven swords-mistress found a blank mask waiting on the blade stand, and with minor hesitation she placed it on. Then she saw the rest of the story unfold on the mural walls. She saw the race of elven kin fall into debauchery and darkness and death, and the birth of a great unholy supernatural power in the sacrifice of nearly an entire race’s decent into madness and death. When she recovered from the inevitable physical reaction to what she had seen, Shalyndra saw her mask now had one side of it painted in ivy leaves. A voice, the voice of Whisper, informed her she was now on a new path.

Meanwhile, Thomas & Uno jumped the gun and made arrangements to book tickets via the D-Gate portal to Motavia for the entire team to visit with Rika as she underwent her therapy. 2 days wait period was given as the time frame, but that was it. It looked like it was going to be an painless and easy trip.
Fionna & Garrus meanwhile encountered a nearly drowned Cowboy, Name of Roland Attobelli, washed up near the docklands of Lazlo harbour. Figuring that they couldn’t leave the new-comer to become lost in Lazlo’s maze of protocols and business dealings, they took him under their wing and gave him a short term free-lancer contract. The cow-boy was much obliged, as he had been escaping from bounty hunters in the Midwest and somehow had managed to get lost and turned around by several hundred dozen miles.

June 15th dawned clear and bright. Fionna received a letter from Myra & Maj. Dalhousie about Shalyndra being taken for ‘intercultural liaison duties’ for an indefinite period of time. Another e-mail soon followed from Lady Myra, stating that Markus Falkon had already gone ahead to Motavia as soon as he had received word as to his wife’s condition. Fionna shrugged and would not have her mood ruined. Thomas & Uno spent most of the day just lolly-gagging while Thomas woke dup the nerve to pop a very important question to his gynoid partner. However before he could do so, they were chivied by the rest of the team to hurry up. Thomas became a nervous wreck at this, wanting everything to be perfect for when he dropped “THE Question”, but perfection eluded him.

As the team met up in the Aerospace Port of Lazlo-Pearson, fire & smoke could be seen in the distance. Racing to the scene, they found the side of the main terminal building and traffic control had been bombed. A figure was seen running out of the wreckage as Fionna & Uno went to try and rescue any survivors…coming under fire by an unseen assailant from a neighbouring building. Both Garrus & Thomas managed to pin down the nearly invisible sniper after taking a few glancing hits to their protective fields. As Thomas magic netted the suspected terrorist, said terrorist exploded with the force of a large plasma grenade.

When the dust settled, it was discovered that both the personal AND heavy cargo / vehicle D-gates to Motavia had been damaged and / or destroyed in the bombing. For once, Team Alpha was NOT the specific target (they just had incredibly good / bad luck) but the reason why the terrorists targeted the pan-dimensional gateways was still a mystery. Even more so when Myra put two-and-two together and realized that the assailant that had almost been captured, was the product of cloning juicers for combat purposes from an organization that she had personally taken apart years earlier.

Delayed but not deterred, Team Alpha transported themselves to Rika & Markus’ ‘Haven’ complex, where they boarded the Starship Landale 2, which they were going to use to fly through the eye of The Tree of Darkness’ Phaseworld portal. The Landale’s A.I., ‘Rez’ suggested using the bits & pieces of her former owner’s TW multi-dimensional drive (based on a toaster that buttered both sides of bread, a box that had something meowing inside of it and a piece of angel food cake wired up to an old solar calculator…and a big red button) to “safely transit directly to Algol.”
Thomas, feeling the need to be useful, went down to wire up the device. On activation, the universe went tie-dye.
On waking up after the bad mystically-powered acid trip, Fionna discovered that YES, they were in the Algol system not too far from Motavia.

Then the hostile lock-on alarm went off.

The date is June 16th , PA 109.
