“Confirm what we just saw! What was it?!”
“Captain, the Fossey confirms it! We just had a massive spacial-temporal event of unusual symmetry. ORACLE sensors detected a pattern orange centered at the area of effect, then the lifeforce of every human being in the area of effect just ceased at the same time that energy anomaly came into existence! Then the solar eclipse happened and the energy mass just collapsed and we’re registering human life signs again!”
“Area of the anomaly coverage?”
“Several hundred kloms across. Confirm a pentacle substructure to it. No, make that TWO pentacle substructures.”
“That entity we saw, what is its status now?”
“Massive Blood Pattern Orange spike coinciding with the lifeforce blackout...then it switched to Blue. We’re still detecting it at the center of the anomaly zone, but it’s much weaker!”
“We have a match on the life force mass, Captain! We have a more than fifty percent pattern coincidence match with previous observed phenomena.”
“...Which phenomena, Mister Sable?”
“It’s flagged as a Phlegathon Event.”
“....”
“It is a Pattern Blue? Would you say it is an Angel?”
“Within an eighty percent match. It is still active and detectable at the observed anomaly center.”
“Then I am declaring a Code Imp and authorizing release of anti-Angel weaponry. Plot a tactical vector and firing solution on the Code Blue immediately!”
“Blue Pattern’s in the middle of densely populated area, Captain! Use of N-two, reflex, or positron weaponry may result in massive collateral damage at this range!”
”Understood, Mister Termonde! Are our Lances accurate enough for a surgical strike?”
“Yes, Captain, aside from sonic boom effects.”
“Prepare three Lances for firing, as soon as we have an accurate fix on the target!”
“For the record, Captain, may I remind you we’re dealing with a T-level five society down there?”
“Duly noted, Mister Angora! But we have apparently borne witness to an attempted Impact Event! We cannot allow the responsible entity another chance to try it again. We’ll worry about recovery of expended technology AFTER we’ve confirmed the entity’s neutralization. Fire when ready, Mister Termonde!”
“Aye-aye, Captain Hunter!”

In the belly of the battlecruiser, a large hatch opens, revealing a jaggedly-sharp array of angled ordnance.
A single large flat bladed projectile silently slides out of the bay with switchblade-like precision, the recently-charged positron bottles on its tail-end glowing with confined anti-matter violence. Once clear of the cruiser, there is a series of small, intensely bright flashes, as several of the bottles liberate their energies, instantly imparting their force to the Lance, which snap-accelerates away, towards the blue-green planet below.

<<Pitful Humans. Inferior Vermin. I hold nearly a million souls within me.>> The Homonculus known as ‘Father’ calmly stated as he laid waste all about him.
“KEEP FIRING!”
“Our weapons aren’t even scratching him!”
“More ammunition! Keep carving at him! Wear him down!”
“He can’t burn Philosophers’ Stones forever! He HAS to run out of power sometime!”
“Can you give me a specific time on that!”
<<Vermin! Especially you, Alchemist!>>
“AYIIIEEE!!!!”
”Hohenheim, can’t we DO anything?!”
“Don’t let him counterattack!”
<<Die!>>
“Damnit!”
“WE NEED MORE FIREPOWER!”
“What’s tha-”
Those present would later claim that they saw a flash high in the sky and heard a high chiming note before...
WHUD!
<<AYYYEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGGgg!!!!>>

WHHOOOOMMMPPPPFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
“YYYYYIIIIIIIIII!!!!”
”HANG ON!”
“WHAT THE---”
The resulting shockwave blew out all the remaining windows in the royal palace, sent loose debris flying, and bowled men over like toys.
“Ed! Alphonse!”
“What the heck just happened, Lieutenant!? What just happened?! Tell me! You’re my eyes!”
*“White Squad! Report! Report! What just happened?!”*
“Where’d that thing go?!”
“Was that an earthquake?”
“It came from the sky, I think!”
“WHERE’S THE DAMN BASTARD!!! HE CAN’T GET AWAY!!!!”
“I don’t sense anything!!!”
“Is he really gone...?”

“Confirm Pattern Blue just disipated, Captain! Direct hit!”
“Lance is apparently some forty-eighty meters underground by now.”
“Good. Stand down reserve Lance launches, but keep the system locked in just in case. Scramble a recon flight and CAP Seraphs with anti-Angel armaments and tell them to do a close fly-by recon to tell what the situation is on the ground. If it’s still down there and hiding, I want to know immediately. If it’s gone, we still need to recover the Lance.”

Tak.Tak.Tak.
The being of truth looked up. The sound of footsteps in its realmwas unusual to say the least.
Equally unusual was the fact that the expected mortal wasn’t alone. The blue-haired, red-eyed, white-clad woman with the glacial bearing, leading the group was unexpected, as were the two heavily armored figures escorting.
If the being of truth had eyes, it would be blinking them.
//You//
“Yes. Me.”
//You’re not alone//
“No.”
The blue-haired woman broke in. “We’ve come for the boy. All of him. And the leg.”
//What are you going to offer in exchange? Your life? ...Or theirs?//
The blue-haired woman took up the conversation.
“This isn’t an exchange. It’s a liberation.”
//The Law of Equivalent Exchange demands a toll//
“The Law is irrelevent. It assumes a static cosmos that cannot generate energy or benefit. The Law is subject to change. Starting now.”
//You cannot change universal Truth as you see fit, nor meddle as you see fit without consequence. You presume too much. This I know, for I am ‘you’//
“Spare me the mind-games. We are here. We can touch you. We can hurt you.You arbitrarily take and give without compassion. We are here on a mission of mercy, but stand in our way, and we will offer you none. The boy.”
//You would threaten God?!//
“We’ve encountered many beings who claimed to be gods. Some more impressive than you. We killed them.”
//You dare?! You cannot harm m-//
NEVER MIND ME. I CAN WAIT A FEW MINUTES.
//Take the boy. Exit’s that way//
“And the leg.”
//Fine. And the leg//
“Come on, Al, everybody’s waiting for us!”

He's been in a Xover before, although he was just passing through Customs.
He's moonlighted as a farmer, on account of the tool he's VERY good with...

I do believe A-Eleven is a heretic who has NEVER read, nor is at all familiar with Terry Pratchet OR the Disc World series and affiliated properties.

The man in black SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS is THE 'Death' of Man.
As opposed to THE ' Death' of Mice, who goes (all caps) SQUEAK.

I don't know if I should be appalled at Alpha's lacking upbringing, or be happy that he has a grand new adventure in acquainting himself with Discworld ahead of him...
All he has to do is go to his public library, go to the back stacks, and listen for the sound of....

Do not let that be a state for very long. I beseech you, nay, I exhort you, to go forth and seek out Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. You can start out from the first book, Color of Magic, which starts you off with Rincewind(the world's most cowardly Wyzard) and Cohen the Barbarian(geriatric practitioner of the OLde School of Heroic Barbarianism) but if you really want to jump in, Guards! Guards! is a good start in the city of Ankh Morphork and the Night Watch, but you can also pick it up with Going Postal which happens later in the event stream. Wryd Sisters is also another good starting point, albeit in the more remote and bucolic regions.
The Last Hero is a lavishly illustrated 'sidestory' and is as good as any of a visual introduction to Discworld.

Haven't gone PAST 'Guards Guards', but that's more a question of shelf-space and monetary concerns ;)
I am however "with it" on most of the broad-stroke mythology. :D

Guards Guards kicks off the City Watch chronicles arc which I'm particularly fond of; as far as I'm concerned Commander Vimes IS Pratchett's resident badass and the Watch the sort of police force you'd LOVE to have protecting your civilization...as the GURPS Discworld RPG puts it, the City Watch under Samuel Vimes is NOT the sort of bumbling city guardsmen that most mainstream fantasy characters run circles around...these guys KNOW the city, KNOW the community, and they watch each others' backs(in short, they don't come running at you one on one, or in a solid mass...they'll use their brains to apprehend you).

See? You don't want to be grouped with them! Read Pratchett; use your local library if nothing else, and if your public library doesn't have them....well, then, obviously then that's a cultural sinkhole....

Suddenly, the fact that in that universe, I'd have likely been vaporized by the SDF-1's Barrier overload, doesn't seem so bad.

Alex Knight wrote:I'd like to take this moment to point out that pretty much every negative complaint about Palin was manufactured and/or incredibly selective, but hey, this isn't a politics thread.

Actually, I based my judgements on what the GOP approved for her and what she said herself...which is part of why I dropped my Republican leanings and membership and became a registered independent. Not that I wholly embrace the Democrats, but these days my voting record is for whoever I think will do the less damage.
Sorry, but too many career politicians these days by their own words and actions scare me to the point that I wonder of the Pod People really HAVE landed and successfully established their beachhead.
As for her becoming President? Well, we ARE discussing alternate realities here. Though with the removal of the write-in ballot in most places, I'm sad to say President Mickey Mouse is no longer a possibility(as he used to gain more votes in some regions than either the Reps or the Dems).
As for this not being a politics thread? Most politics is (science) fiction; (as defined by Hugo Gernsback) the presentation of ideas and fiction served with facts and speculation such that the observer is drawn into a willing suspension of disbelief. And like flying cars in every garage by the year 2000, the promises of politics are , to quote Abraham Lincoln(in reference to another man's arguments), 'thinner than the broth made from the shade of a pigeon that's been starved to death".

Truth be told, I don't know a lot about her, I've got enough trouble figuring out my own country's politicians. Gloval's reaction and my response was based on the version portrayed in the Finnish film.

There ain't much to figure out. However, I figure every political system has similar. Usually they get shunted to harmless positions like Ambassador to Erewhon or Commissioner of the Bureau of Standards for Fishing Flies, before retiring to self-publish their memoirs, run a little museum out of their old living room, or become talk show hosts.

I am similar. There are few Statesman these days. Good grief, I would vote for Mickey if he was on the ballot before eithor of those 2 that are on now. I forget who said it, but someone said that they could most likely take the first 500 people in the New York phone book and they could most likely do better in our government. Chaos reigns as Zerg rampage about the ship chasing hapless humans and Zentraedi alike. The door to the meeting room opens as Lisa surveys her "children's" handiwork. She is soon joined by Claudia, the Bridge Bunnies and Miriya in their Zerg forms.

Lisa: "Ladies, shall we go about and claim our new world?"

In orbit above, Dolza's fleet folds into a Zerg ambush.

Mexico, Post-Rain of Death

”Damn it! Where are all you bastards coming from?! I thought most of the renegades bought it with Khyron!”
Rick Hunter threw his fighter across the sky to avoid the barrage of fire from the pack of Regults trying to haul him down. Then he had to duck back down as a trio of Gnerls, waiting above, swooped down on him and tried to catch him by surprise. He put his Valk into Gerwalk, sliding in VTOL under them as they screeched overhead, pickled off two of his remaining Stilletos into their hot venturis, then had to dive again as his hovering mecha caught the attention of the Regults again.
All around him squadrons of UNDF mecha clawed and scrambled in their own furballs with the Zentraedi mecha that were trying to hit Mexico City. It seemed like every remaining Malcontent mecha in North America was making a hallelujah end run on the city, their quantity, if not their quality, threatening to overwhelm the available defenders.
“Lisa?! Talk to me! ETA on reinforcements?”
#“Orbitals and transcontinentals are still 30 minutes out.”
“Damn! Khyron’s spoilsports are thick as flies out here and we can’t swat all of them by ourselves!” Rick frantically tried to spot the Gnerl that had tried to wax him earlier.
#“Got another IFF signal coming up on your position, Rick.”
“Who? Don’t tell me we got more rogues!”
#“No, IDs as Civil Air Patrol. Probably Mexican air national guard or militia.”
“Great! What the hell can THEY contribute? Jets?” Rick already knew every Mexican Sector VF was committed to the battle, and every conventional fighter that wasn’t already up was shot down. The skies were most definitely NOT friendly around here.
#”Registration reports it as a helicopter.”
“You’re kidding me! This isn’t a heli fight!” $#!+, there was the Gnerl, minus its two buddies, but with a fresh Gnerl dropping in beside it, both angling back towards him.
#”That’s what it says. It’s approaching your position QUICKLY, Rick.”
Rick glanced up at his HUD, to see a new cursor coming into the aerial battlefield.
<<Missile Alert! Tracking Incoming>>
Rick made ready to dodge and throw chaff. Most of the UNDF mecha had already lost their missiles early in the fight, which left the Malcontents with available ordnance.
<<Confirmed. Double Vampire. AAM Targeting Alpha-Zebra-One.>>
As Rick looked up, he saw the Gnerl suddenly get hit by a bright streak and blow up. A second streak hit its wingman, sending the Gnerl rolling and staggering wide as it tried to regain control.
Rick caught a glimpse of the launch aircraft as it entered visual range, banking after the wounded Zentraedi mecha.
What the -hell-? That looked like an old Bell 222! What the heck was it doing in this hairball?!
Then he was back in the furball, chugging away with his GU-11 as a Zentraedi Stinger tried to ream him with pulse laser fire.
Several times during the fight, as Rick tried to keep track of his fellow fighters, he caught a glimpse of the mysterious copter as it ducked and weaved in its own dogfights. The thing may have looked like an executive chopper, but it moved with a speed and fluidity that almost the equal of a Veritech. And it seemed to bristle with armaments.
Whatever it was, he saw it make a pass on a hand’s worth of Regults. By the time it had finished its flyby, half the battlepods were smoking ruins, shot through by what looked like chain gun fire and ASMs. Another time he caught a glimpse of it reversing on a pursuing Male Power Armor, then blowing the Zentraedi’s head off with a nearly point-blank Hellfire launch. He even saw it take a glancing hit from Regult cannon fire, the particle beam strike staggering the helicopter but not obliterating it as it should have; instead the chopper had turned and bullseyed the battlepod with what looked like laser fire of its own.
Suddenly aware of a new player, the Malcontents had begun to start moving towards the newcomer with fell intent, and Rick was back to fighting, picking off distracted targets of opportunity with his remaining chain gun ammo and few remaining missiles.
By that time, though, the radar had lit with dozens more signals, IFF painting them as the reinforcements from South America and Liberty, finally arriving. As the fresh forces inserted themselves into the firefight, depleted mecha and men began to drop out and fall back. Rick, fresh out of ammunition and missiles, was one of them, gratefully gaining altitude to assume an overwatch as the battle wound down in the defenders’ favor.
Thus Rick was able to see the dark angel bow out of the fight, lofting out of the fight, then accelerating away at an incredible performance curve, before its radar image sputtered out.
Rick looked at the clocked speed recorded before the black helicopter had vanished.
No ####ing way! That helicopter broke the sound barrier?! And sensors say that loss of sensor contact was...active stealth?!
What the hell was that thing?

Caitlin O'Shannessy, late of the Texas Highway Patrol, eased back on the stick as she lowered The Lady into the Lair, the cool shadows folding over stealth helicopter as the camouflage tarp retracted back into place above it, preserving the illusion of the Valley of the Gods being more lifeless waste.
Like so much of the Earth now, Caitlin sighed as she powered down The Lady and pulled off her helmet.
Aliens, giant robots, and the Apocalypse...certainly not what she’d been expecting to be facing one day when she’d gone chasing a mysterious black helicopter back in the day.
With a hiss the cockpit hatch opened, and Caitlin tiredly climbed out of her faithful stead.
“How’d it go?”
“Just swimmingly, Jo. Took a hit, but the armor held. Bless old Michael Briggs for those last tech handouts before the Firm got folded.”
Jo Santini was staring at the burn marks along her favorite bird’s flanks. “I can SEE that! Fortunately I got enough of the armor stock to effect repairs, but I’d rather you didn’t get hit!”
“I try, but it’s not like we’re pot-shooting Migs anymore. Those Zents are trigger-happy bastards.”Caitlin set her neural helmet, another gift of purloined technology from the late Firm director, on one of the drums of supplies packed into the Lair’s cave tunnels.
Jo was already prying at the melted and warped composite armor with a tool. “Anything else go cocked?”
“ Laser almost overheated. Gotta do something about the cooling jacket on it. Engines acted up again. Almost lost power a few times during the hairball.”
“I’m telling you, we should move to a metallic hydrogen powerplant; they give more power.”
“You know as well as I do LMH’s military mecha fuel and they’re watching where every drop goes! On the other hand, av-gas is cheap these days with the synthesis plants feeding the Reconstruction. Jo, av-gas is good enough for supersonic on The Lady without having to rebuild her guts.”
“We’re going to have to rebuild sometime. And you keep calling it The Lady.”
“Good enough for your Uncle Dom to call her that. Just keeping up the tradition.”
Both women fell silent for a moment as they remembered lost loved ones and missing friends, most lost in the Rain of Death, which the two women had only survived because they’d been huddled up in the Lair at the time, doing maintenance on the old Lady.
“We’ll also have to consider going legit some time. We can’t hide from the bandits, Malcontents, or the new government forever, especially if we need new parts and materials. Missiles and SLAP rounds cost on the market, and the new Southern Cross is sniffing around coming to catch Malcontents re-arming. ”
“I know, I know, but I’m hoping to establish our rep with the communties as a security contractor, what with the Firm being gone and most of the records of The Lady’s past actions probably decorating a glass-bottomed crater somewhere.”

Oh yeah...and it fits so nicely in, too...Gotta wonder if some of the Airwolf's data from its 'locking rotor' when hitting supersonic* made its way into the AJACs. :D

*I'm assuming that Airwolf was an 'X-wing' advanced copter, sopmething that at the time couldn't be represented due to budgetary constraints, However, were the series made today, by the right hands, could probably be done quite nicely with CGI(likewise for all the mis-identified 'Migs' that kept getting blown up with the same dated stock footage).

What's ironic was I could swear in one of issues of the Malcontent Uprising comic had a vaguely Airwolf looking helicopter in the background of one of the big dogfights. It was hard to tell with the art work at the time.

It's entirely possible...but remember, the Airwolf was based on the Bell-222 executive copter, and the production notes state that the 'Airwolf' concept was of a 'wolf in sheep's clothing', so it was SUPPOSED to look like a commercial chopper to the untrained eye(black paint scheme aside) until it openned up on you with 20/30mm cannon and missiles.

It was the issue were Breetai's all Zentraedi VT squadron joins Skull squadron over the Malcontent base. While the Malcontents seem to completely miss the arrival of Leonard's big ass airship. Of course the helicopter in question appears to be going down with it's tail covered in smoke.

Entirely possible that it was a gunship-edition Bell 222-type, then, but not the full-on Airwolf, which claimed, among other things in the series, supersonic flight(apparently by 'locking' its rotor), passive and active stealth, 20-30mm cannons, ASM/AAMs, a laser, and the ability to fly into the stratosphere.

Admittedly, in the snippet I posted above, the Lady got a facelift with megadamage materials, and more advanced piloting interfaces(so one person could fly the thing) after the Visitor crashed and the UEG global re-armament began, and a few other upgrades were dribbled to 'special contractors' of the various governments, but by and large the Firm and other such organizations got enfolded into the UN Spacy and UEG, and such 'old school' programs as Airwolf increasingly marginalized by the new generation of 'superbirds'...the Veritechs, aerospace fighters, and mecha in general.

And yeah, Stringfellow Hawk(and his brother), Old Man Santini, and Michael Briggs all bought it during the GCW or the Rain of Death. The surviving Team have been hiding out at the Lair as high-tech bandits/mercenaries, hoping they don't get spotted by triggerhappy UEG forces, tech bandits, or Malcontents, all of whom would see the cache of weapons and supplies, as well as the location, of the Lair a target. Hence Caitlin's apprehension about when to come out and try to get official recognition; the UEG might well just confiscate the chopper and gear, or insist the Airwolf team come under military direction and standards.

Okay..would you believe 'Firefox' technology? :D

And yes, the Whispercraft makes a good basis for a second-generation Airwolf.
