Pretty much...In UEsG Tokyo-3, and the 'zoneland' developments around Monument City, it's a wise idea to know who your likely clientele are, and cater accordingly. The really quick-witted business owners have intelligence networks nearly as good as the police, in order to pick up on who's hankering for what, and who can supply the what, and how can they get a cut of the action(like offering a Flower of Life cocktail for visiting Invid dignitaries or stocking up on ethnic foods in anticipation of big Sentinel delegations and trade groups coming through).

After much of UEsG Tokyo-3 and one grocery store was shot up, or blown into orbit as with the Yellow Flag, it had finally come to this. Desdemona, a smoking gun in each hand, and a knife in her teeth, kicked in the office door to find...

Her mother and another woman talking animatedly over tea.

Akiko Natsume: (Reaching over to shake Nova's hand) "Thank you Miss Satori. You've been most helpful in clearing up last weeks regrettable incident."

Nova: "Not a problem. About the performance review?"

Akiko Natsume: "Oh, I don't think that will be a problem. 8) You clearly could not have foreseen the level of opposition you team would face. Ta ta."

Desdemona: "MOM!?!"

This won't do KAS-DA thought as she watched the clerks restock the shelves.

T-ALOS: "This defeats the whole point of coming here."

As Ben watched and Kyle twitched, the girls got on their smart phones and summoned additional combatants from their call lists.

Actually the gang long ago established the Let's not blow up our source of box lunches rule. This restricts the combatants to only non-food weapons they can find in the grocery store.

Examples:

Chopsticks.
Grocery Baskets.
Shopping Carts.
etc...

Besides, he probably knows how to McGuyver up zip-guns from components found in the kitchenware aisle. Maybe even work up some chemical propellent weapons using lighter fluid(cookout supplies and candle lighters), charcoal, sugar or flour(dust explosives; ever seen a grain elevator explode? Sugar silos also used to go 'boom').

In the McKInney 'Black Hole Travel Agency' novels, it's plastique made from pizza dough and other 'doctored' ingredients.
A Gunsmith Cats manga episode once featured improvised CS grenades made from light bulbs, and incorporating tabasco sauce as an irritant.
But with a well-stocked pantry and a chemistry degree, lord, the things you're supposed to be able to cook up...

actually it was an improvised fragmentation mine made from a lightfixture. the C4 was wired into the broken bulb, and the bulb glass added to the glass cover. when the mook flipped on the switch, :boom:.

the Tabasco was turned into a mini-grenade with a remote detonator and tiny blob of C4. used to shatter the container and spread the contents. a bottle of black pepper was similarly modified. both got used to incapacitate mooks.

I think though, blowing up the Bento would make it hard to savor later. This is kind of a Fight Club setup created by combat cyborgs. The challenge is to NOT nuke the battle site or the food/goals. I'd think this would be more a Hand-to-Hand/Melee combat type situation.

Sousuke's a lot more pragmatic than the fight-club scene. Unless it directly affects his combat effectiveness in some way or is coached in terms of something like a contest for command of a group, he'll ignore such things. In fact, if it threatens his charge(Chidori) or his superior officers in any way, or interferes with his 'mission'(whatever it is at that given time), he'll try to neutralize it(typically with explosives).
As far as I can tell, Sousuke's hobbies mostly revolve around collecting weaponry...

And my addition to the club fight scene?

Ben-to fight... (Part 1)

Sousuke Sagara had out done himself in cunning. Sneaking in C-4 disguised as Play-Doe[sup]tm[/sup], pure genius he thought as he set the detonator. He was so proud of himself, he failed to notice T-ALOS coming up behind him. The impact flattening him over top of his explosives.

***POOM!***

T-ALOS exulted in joy, her combat cyborg brain had calculated that not only would Sousuke's body muffle the explosion, but also make an excellent launch platform for herself. She gave out a wild battle cry as she flipped in the air using her arms and legs to parry the hail of pie plates Xena now fired in her direction.
