I always liked the Shining and Poltergeist 1 & 2

poltergiest was awesome, esspceialy considering how well it has held up over the years.

Freddy vs. Jason was okay, not that great. There is going to be another one, cause the ending is wide open, like AVP

I know people find Sandra Bullock scary, but still...

My favorites are the Night, Day & Dawn of the dead. The origionals. Just something creepy about an unstoppable crawl of overweaming odds mixed with people going crazy on each other and cracking under the stress.

Night of the Demons scarred the hell out of me when I was young. It's a good low budget movie, decent makeup and best of all, it has good writing. Not shakespear good, but effective "dumb teens in a haunted house summoning demons" writing.

Blair Witch scared the hell out of my when I was like 23. I lived in the woods at the time and I was not happy. My imagination just totally picked up on the movie. Any movie done in a more "gritty" film has always felt scarier to me and for some reason the way it was presented was even scarier... probobly because there was no villain. BW2 was more like softcore porn.

A lot of good movies on the list, but not a lot of scary movies. Hollywood is much more enamoured with suspense or cheap jumps than horror because they can get a lower rating on it and thus more money.

These are great movies, but I wouldn't really say any of them were scary or even meant to be scary. An American Werewolf comes closest, but if half comedy (was that intentional? I always assumed so).

Just having something sci-fi or supernatural in a movie doesn't make it scary. Making it scary is how you present your baddie and the good guys.

Another movie that scared the hell out of me when I was young was Return of the Living Dead. Saw it in a drive through with my parents when I was like 8. Yes, it's too scary for me, so just let me listen to the movie while watching naked people in Roadhouse on another screen.

For years to come, if I were alone for someone and they started groaning "Brains" I would totally freak out.

Blade. Mainly the first one. I like them for three simple reasons.
1. First time I seen a vampire movie that keeps religion out.
2. First time I saw a science approach to explaining vampires.
3. EDTA= vampires go splat!

Horror doesn't scare me much ... Drama on the other hand does

I voted Grudge but the movie itself doesn't really bother me its the sound "uh-h-h-h-h-h-h-h" that sends chills up my spine

I don't consider any of the movies on the poll scary.
I do consider a lot on the poll crap.
Event Horizon is a horror movie.
By that virtue it is worthy of mention.
The inclusion of the smiley was meant to be a joke indicating that I, myself, am a fan of some of the actors in the movie.

I voted for "Halloween"...arguably the best of the slasher films. Ignore the sequels (excpet, maybe, #2).

From a gaming standpoint, "The Mummy" (Brendan Fraser) is THE gaming horror movie.

Well, all I can say is that you must be more forgiving than me. A movie could be filled with actors that I like and still be painfully bad to watch. Good performances can elevate an otherwise mediocre movie, but no amount of good acting can save a movie that lacks a well-written script, or is directed by a hack, or exists solely as an excuse to blow half the budget on effects.

I'm not quibbling with anyone's affection for "Event Horizon". I thought it was okay; a pretty thin plot, nothing altogether interesting to say, no new territory explored, but creepy in spots. It was a B-movie and wasn't really trying to be something other than that, and I didn't get the feeling the actors were knocking themselves out.

All I'm saying is a mediocre or lousy movie is just that, despite how I feel about any of the actors. A picture doesn't go from crappy to good because simply because of who's in it.

Yeah, my buddy Matt and I saw it in the theaters. The movie was unique but very short of real scares. The only one that even stands out in my mind is when you see one of the blind sisters (or whatever they were) crawling across the ceiling as you notice the sister is no longer in the photograph. I admit we were with a rougher crowd when we saw this movie but we had more people laughing at it than anything else. :/

I voted for The Grudge but I want it to be known I mean the original Japanese version of the movie. It was much lower budget but it did give me good scares and it was much better than the Sarah Michelle Gellar version that released in the U.S.

Ok, my favorite horror movie of all time is John Carpenters The Thing. And might I add, no alien creature has ever been able to match that thing of an alien since.

The thing can mimic any life form it comes into contact with perfectly, and once you are infected, the alien doesn't even let you know that you are it's pawn. You actually think you are still you, and then when it needs support, you become a mindless killing machine. Oh, and the only way to permanently kill the thing is with fire. Lots and lots of fire. Even in a Mega damage setting such as Rifts, it would be incredibly hard to kill. Plus the most minor scratch from the thing is enough to become infected.

John Carpenter's The Thing is definitely one of the best horror flicks of all time. I love that film.

On a realted note, I manage a movie theater and had the extreme displeasure of previewing "Hills Have Eyes 2."

Don't waste your time...it's a waste of time and celluloid.

Anyone see The Lost yet? It came out this weekend and is being critiqued as one of the best horror/monster flicks of all time.

The Shining and Poltergeist 1 & 2.

I'm not at all a fan of 'surprise thrillers' where the thing jumps out at ya every 5 minutes (exaggeration). I dislike being startled. I do enjoy the supernatural freaky movies that don't scare the living poop out of me, but I actually find mentally stimulating and entertaining...

On that note... I'm not a big fan of Horror movies at all, but I do like the Horror RPG genre as well as the horror novels that I've read so far.

Personally, I'd take Alien over Aliens any day. And isn't 28 Days a Sandra Bullock movie about rehab?

As a child living in the middle of the woods litterally Friday the 13th gave new meaning to the word FEAR . Cant tell you how many times I heard my mom say go play out in the woods or something an I would be thinking R U NUTS !! But as an adult I highly recommend the Original Hellraiser as that is perhaps one of my favorite if not favorite of all horror movies .. I would also like to say that I have ran the whole "thing" styled gamming session an when played as it should be the players are all like what in the world an when the truth comes out thier instantly scared . It was a VERY good gamming session that night lol

I love Aliens, its true, but I don't think of it as a horror movie as much.
The Thing, now there's some @$&^ed up #$*@.

Ask yourself which situation you'd rather be in? Yea, it's a close decision, but at least xenomorphs will just sneak up on you and kill you horribly, and maybe plant a chestburster- better that than having to worry about your best friend possibly NOT being your best friend and ripping apart and 'eating' you.. or worrying if YOU might be it or if it could be spreading.
