Next to the Ice Guard soldier on the ice floe are two folding chairs, each one occupied by a large person in red-and-white power armor. One is sans helmet and bald, while the other has a gray helmet with pointed faceplate. They are both alternately chugging beers while ewwing and awwwing as various mecha, protagonists, and antagonists are flung across the sky in varying states of physical completeness/ignition...
"Seems so familiar but different..."
(".....auuugghhh!!!")
("...aieeeee!!!")
("..yoiks!!!")

"So...synchocannon or reflex cannon hit?"
"None of the above. Smashite missiles and Triax concussion bombs mainly."

I've really got to have a go at sketching up what the Ice Guard senior staff (and assorted characters) look like, just for kicks.
That, and work on the Random Ice Guard Mutation Charts(so people have something else to worry about)...

I'd like to see that, I have been reading over your posts in the IG thread and I have to say the RT Verve is screwed and not in a good way once they 3rd gen IG starts making their way into the rest of the world/galaxy.

Well, some of the folks were exiled to Ice Guard BECAUSE of financial shenanigans. If you were unlucky enough NOT to get sentenced to a country club prison or locked away in solitary, you got dumped on Ice Guard. Gutter-scum like ENRON execs quickly got weeded out by the climate and environment, while adaptable types manage to survive to become actually USEFUL to the other staff.

Hopefuly they did so they could suffer the hardships of fighting claw, tooth and nail for a scrap of food after having lived the High Life of the rich and shameless or to slowly wither away due to starvation and disease or falling victim to the hard core wasteland scum

Yeah, but bear in mind that Major Jones drinks his coffee adulterated with chili powder*, enough caffeine powder to imitate a Boston snowdrift, and animal tranquilizers with enough knockdown power to stop an elephant's heart, nightmares have little bearing or hold on the man. And he is just one of many Ice Guards who have self-medicated on insane concoctions in their everyday diets, in part to escape the worst of Alvarez's cooking, and just to get through the day/arctic night.

*Not necessarily Insanity Peppers, but possibly the arguably just as toxic 'Dolza's Rage' chili pepper, the chief ingredient of the most recent, and deadly, iteration of Chili Con Carnage, a banned bean-based WMD.

What's a better game? Battletech or Robotech? Well, for RPG, it is Robotech. For accurate military play, it is Battletech. However, I have found, that both games can sometimes have very, very long turns. However, Robotech can be faster. But still, both do not compare to the game speeds of Full Thrust.

"Him? Ever since he got off the plane he thinks he's stuck in a role playing game. Can't do anything without rolling dice to see if he's successful. Couple of times he's screamed that he had initiative this turn and demanded to speak with the GM, whoever or whatever that is. Once he shot up a bunch of his colleagues and claimed it was because 'he rolled a fumble'. Another time he tried to claim another's kill because despite him missing the same target by a mile, he claimed he rolled a critical strike. Good point but even the Ice Guard has a " Brown Pants " squad for those who are even too screwed up for the Ice Guard in general.

True, but let's try to bring it back to Crossovers in general; the Arctic Express that is bringing really REALLY cold air to parts of America may mean Ice Guard is temporarily expanding its range, but Spring is coming. They can't hold a line four threads wide when the warmer weather starts coming back in.
Perhaps Peacebringer would care to introduce some of the elements of the Full Thrust setting into the Robotech milleu? I admit to an unfamiliarity with the storyline behind it.

Personally, I shop less for an efficient game system and more for fun settings.
As I've mentioned before, I have an eccentric fondness for the 'open RPG'(as it can be adapted to just about any game system) world of Rocketship Empires 1936(sadly, their publishers went defunct, at about the same time that the Terran Trade Authority, another nostalgia wagon, RPG line went bellyup).
The setting is basically 'Indiana Jones in SPACE!' with overtones of Dieselpunk and H.P. Lovecraft. Just after WW1, the Earth gets contacted by the Martians, an ancient and wise civilization with a galactic empire. They're willing to share some of their technology with us and get us humans offworld---if we become their soldiers in a distant war that seems to go going badly for them. It's not entirely clear who or what the enemy are, but the Martians felt pressed enough to violate an ancient pact that exiled a horrible ancient terror to a prison world in order to recruit that terror's descendants, us, as sepoy-soldiers. They've given us a breaking-in period during which humanity gets to colonize, grow our numbers, and get familiar with space travel and combat before we run into the front lines of the big war.
So the familiar players of the post WW-1 world are here, running up to WW2 in space. There's Space Nazis(with space-Stukas and stealth space-submarines) feeding weapons to the Spanish factional enclaves, Japanese ninjas, American wild new frontier colonists, Brits sailing deep space for the dear old Queen), Chinese space pirates, all using gimmicked versions of 1930s' aerodynamics and naval design to go cruising into space, where there's ancient ruins, horrible secrets, oh, and something about hyperspace that causes people to turn into zombies.
It fits very well with SDC settings like Ninjas and Superspies, Beyond the Supernatural, and to a more limited extent Heroes Unlimited, while the Martians' ubertech can be represented by MDC.

Of course, if one wants to have a certain SuperDimensional Fortress crash onto a world in the colonial zone of these humans, it could make a mess of things. Tirolian technology, let alone a biological energy source like the Flower of Life, could easily rival the Martians' tech and the dribbles of it they let us humans have. It could also be a serious bargaining chip for humanity, or a destabilizing advantage to the human faction that finds/claims Zor's fortress. :bandit:

Yeah, the amusement of starships that look like steamships and classic warships(Yamato, anyone? :D ) flying alongside veritechs whose design has been influenced by 1930s' design principles? The USA might have VFs that look more like they were spawned by Lockheed Shooting Stars, while the Empire of Japan is building Giant Robo(in the baseline Rocketship Empires sourcebook, the Martians have both tripod robot warmachines and flying manta-ray attack craft that are obviously shoutouts to the George Pal War of the Worlds).

Now that would be something to see, also you have to consider that if the SDF-1 did crash land on that Earth how would the Martians react to it's arvival?

Most likely they would try to clame it for themselves for the following reasons.

1:Gain a greater tech edge over their enemy
2:To keep from losing their soruce of cannon fodder by keep the human race depenet on them for their advance tech from the Martians
3:To keep the human race from becoming a threat to them should the human race gain a tech edge over the Martians.

The kicker is, in the RE universe, the rest of the galaxy has racial memories of humans being galactic bogeymen and plague carriers. In fact, humans are immune(and can serve as carriers) of great number of pathogens that would knock Martians and other galactics dead. But the Martians came late to the scene after Humanity has been exiled to Earth, so while they are cautious around us and carry out rituals and procedures meant to protect themselves from our 'taint'. like an unwise Rifts Summoner, they think they can control the genie from the bottle...or else, we're considered the lesser of two evils compared to the Unknown Enemy.

I think I've mentioned before two societies that would CURBSTOMP any Robotech power...
The Polity(Neal Asher)----Future Earth society run by AIs. They just survived a long war with the brutal Prador. They have a full range of cyberpunk weapons including infantry-portable anti-matter guns, and smartass sentient military drones that have OBSCENE amounts of firepower packed in ridiculously small spaces. There are a variety of forms of personal immortality available, including riding around as an AI in in your own preserved corpse. Oh, and then there's the hell world known as Spatterjay...

The Culture(Iain Banks) ---What the Polity would be when it grows up. AIs run the show, and most of them are what BOLOs would be like if they let down their hair and took up hobbies. The people live near-immortal lives between engineered reality and virtual reality, and species routinely Sublime into higher states of being(unlike David Brin's Uplift Universe, where sublimation is mysterious and violent) Culture weaponry is even more scary-ass because they have drones, they have sentient starships, and they have sentient nanotech that can get inside of you and kill you. And unlike Star Trek's Federation, the Culture doesn't have a Prime Directive; they have Special Circumstances. Put quite frankly, the Robotech Masters, the Invid, and the Haydonites would be a cakewalk for Special Circumstances; something to pass a slow weekend. A GSV(General Systems Vehicle) with enough time on its hands could OBLITERATE the Zentraedi Grand Fleet in an afternoon.

actually, given how gridfire is described, a culture GSV could probably sweep the grand fleet from space in a single salvo.

and lets not forget the 4th Imperium/4th Empire, of Weber's Empire from the Ashes setting (also known as the Mutineers Moon setting)
one Utu class battle planetoid like Dahak could probably curbstomp the grand fleet in the span of minutes.. they are designed to fight an opponent who employs fleets that are not only larger in numbers of hulls, but in terms of ship size and with much more advanced tech.

then again, Dahak did masquerade as our moon for quite awhile.. and he was a obsolete model by the standards of the fleet that finally met the Achulltanni.

I know its massively lowtech in comparison but I think the Zentraedi would also have serious issues when a "path of the fury" battlegroup opened up, or in some ways worse... an Honorverse podnaut podnaut fleet formation including LAC carriers flushed a "large salvo" at them..

Sir there is a micronian fleet maneuvering apparently to intercept group h147a9.
Bah it doesn't matter they are clearly (300 million km) away...
Sir the micronians just err I am not sure what but there are 1, 10, 20,000 point sources accelerating at 90,000g in the direction of our ships....
Gaa.
Sir group h147a9 is reporting receiving hits some of those: whatever they were, exploded about 20,000 km from the ships and hit them with directed energy attacks (xray laser heads)
while others Rammed, and detonated 200mt+ nuclear explosions

Sir scout 14783 is reporting that within 30 seconds of the first salvo striking that micronian fleet opened fire on all battle groups within (~300 million km) (after they noticed the effects on the Zentraedi and how IMO woefully inadequate their point defenses would be to a honorverse capital missile salvo... )

Since Zentraedi ships don't have wedges, and frankly all their firing arcs seem oriented to FORWARD, a good Honorverse broadside would do them in quite nicely too...if you want to rub in your superiority by cruising up almost to visual distance and let them THINK they have a chance of plowing you.

one Utu class battle planetoid like Dahak could probably curbstomp the grand fleet in the span of minutes.. they are designed to fight an opponent who employs fleets that are not only larger in numbers of hulls, but in terms of ship size and with much more advanced tech.

then again, Dahak did masquerade as our moon for quite awhile.. and he was a obsolete model by the standards of the fleet that finally met the Achulltanni.

That sound you hear is several million Zentraedi bowels simultaneously emptying....

But I'm been re-reading the Polity Spatterjay Trilogy, and the Spatterjay leech-virus, which makes you effectively biologically immortal, simply so the LEECHES CAN EAT YOU LONGER. That's just the icing on the cake; because just about everything living on Spatterjay, including such beauties as frog whelks, hammerwelks, up to welkus titanicus, prill, rhinoworms, and the lot, want to kill you. Sorta like Australia, or downtown Newark.

Sir scout 14783 is reporting that within 30 seconds of the first salvo striking that micronian fleet opened fire on all battle groups within (~300 million km) (after they noticed the effects on the Zentraedi and how IMO woefully inadequate their point defenses would be to a honorverse capital missile salvo... )

Ya, they have very bad AA.

No, they can do broadsides. Their guns on the hull can rotate 360 degrees with 180 degrees of arch. But yes, I believe they do have a bunch in the front that can only fire forward, got to look in the books again to make sure.
