Palladium Open House Update February 11 2009

A couple weeks ago, I explained we NEED to know who and how many people are coming to the 2009 Palladium Open House as SOON as possible. A number of people responded by placing their admission’s order. Thank you. But what about the rest of you? We know more people are planning on attending.

Palladium needs to know how many gamers are going to attend so we can schedule enough gaming events to keep everyone happily playing their hearts out and having fun. We also need to know how many rental chairs and tables to get, our parking needs, etc. And it is only 2½ months away!

Selling out is also a real potential issue. Palladium’s facility can only host around 300-330 people comfortably (maybe a little more). We are already about half-way there, so at some point we might have to turn away people who wish to attend!

If YOU know you are planning to come to the POH, please order your admission tickets NOW. The closer it gets to the event the greater the risk we might be sold out.

Normally, I would not think this is likely, however 300-330 is not a large number (we had 270 at the last POH a couple years ago, including those who paid at the door). HOWEVER, we are getting reports of conventions small and large having record attendance! The most recent was the New York Comic Con which saw a 15% increase in attendance from last year (more than 75,000 people!) and they had to turn people away. Even with the recession people are attending special events, and the Palladium Open House is special.

The fact that Palladium has a record number of advance admissions already, suggests we might have to turn people away at the door. Note: Pre-reg typically indicates one third of the actual number of people planning to attend! The majority placing their orders in the last four weeks or showing up at the door. Using that formula, that could mean as many as 400-450 are “planning” on attending the 2009 Palladium Open House. But Palladium can only accommodate about 350, maybe 400 maximum (we’ll have to see). That could mean we will be turning people away. PLEASE ORDER THOSE ADMISSIONs NOW TO GUARANTEE YOUR PLACE at this fun and unique event!

Open House Preparations are well on the way . . .

Preparations to make this the best organized, most fun Palladium gaming event ever is already well on the way. In between everything else we are doing, we have been cleaning, reorganizing, hanging displays, making signs, setting up the store area, plotting our games, mailing out certificates of attendance, printing badges, and contacting people. The place is looking fantastic and we are pumped up. Kathy Simmons has been the main mover and shaker on all fronts -- and she has been a human tornado of endless energy, ingenuity and organization. But we’ve all been pitching in and getting work done.

There will be much cooler awards and prizes for the costume competition this year. I promise! Joe Bergmans' CS Dead Boy armor from the last Open House will be on display (looks great, nice photo op). There will be a lot of interesting items available for the live auction. There will be a tasteful Erick Wujcik Tribute. New product, back stock titles, out of print items, new (color!) T-shirts and specialty items will be available for purchase. It appears the most Palladium creators ever (50+) will be in attendance, including many new faces. And games, games and more games. The Palladium Open House is also becoming more international! We already have a couple of gamers coming in from Germany, at least one from Spain, a few dozen from Canada and who knows who else from where else. Awesome!
