Okay here is sort of a challenge I threw down to my players last night. Come up with a character idea from any of the books we have but you have to use a songas the basis of the character. The song has to be basically about the character, their life, their backstory, their attitudes, their powers whatever but the song has to identify the character. I'm not talking liek the Imperial March identifies Darth Vader but more like the Dukes of Hazzard identifies Bo and Luke Duke.

I had an exmple character I used. NEMA Guardsman based on the 3 Doors Down song Citizen Soldier. The character is a volunteer doing his job to the best of his ability expecting no reward other than the knowledge that he maybe saved one life. You dont have to save the world just have to save one life. I know pretty easy and obvious choice but I wanted somethign easy to use as an example.

Anyhow given the ecclectic group here and the amount of imgaination available I was wondering what sorts of characters folks here would come up with.

Cool ideas.

Two of my players just emailed to me with their ideas seperately today. Both of them chose the song Here Without You by 3 doors down. One wants to play an immortal vampire type character who is haunted by the ghost or memories of his true love hence the song. And the other one wants to play a phase world spacer who cannot go back to his homeworld and his one true love because the spacer's guild will kill them if he doesnt pay off some debts he owes.

Interesting that the two of them came up with the same song idea seperately. A cool song at least none the less. And not too bad ideas. My wife was joking about coming up with a character based off Amish Paradise or somethign by Wierd Al thouhg so that might be different.....

I've done the same thing... and also in reverse. I have a HU2 soundtrack where every semi-major PC (and even a couple of NPC's) have their own theme-song, as well as general atmosphere songs (which "Citizen Soldier" will be added to when I buy the album). I also have a few Rifts characters that I have developed to the point where I have playlists compiled of their favorite songs (that each reveal a bit about them).

More recently, I developed a Nightbane NPC concept based off of Disturbed's new single "Indestructable." The only problem is that to stat him out I have to find the time to finish some of the new Morphus Tables I'm working on...

Well yeah I thought others did this too as my real life sorta has asoundtrack. You know how like ac ertain song gets stuck to a memory or certain music always comes to mind at certain times. Like me I have troubel keeping to the speed limit when listeing to Rob Zombie Dragula or Red Red Kroovy....

But yeah music plays abig part in a lot of my games for background or in game enocunters like ina club or bardical setting. Sometimes in game clues are hidden in the song and the characters have to figure it out. (IE the bard in the tavern is singing the following song.....)

Good call. That is going to be an interesting character.
