NAR?

I do not have a book in front of me at the moment and even if I did I would ask the question anyhow;

What is NAR?
Natural Armor Rating.
Now I may have been playing it wrongfor a long time but I have apparently misunderstood it lead astray by the title Natural, which I linked to the Natural 20 or Natural 1. So I have been playing it as you needed a Natural (enter NAR number here) or better to hit the being, which I thought was one of the great and very few benefits to Armor of Ithan and mutant armored animals.

But no apparenly if you don't hit it just doesn't do damage.

So has anybody else done this? Have you made similar errors? Do you like your errors better than the canon?

Natural Armor rating means an attack roll over the AR does damage but under it does no damage.
For a standard armor rating when a roll is under the AR the damage is applied to the armor.

yeah the confusion came in is if involved bonuses or not. I took "natural"to mean a natural roll of 16 or a natural roll of 17 what have you

Never met anybody who thought that, especially because I believe the term is defined several places.
But just going off of the name, it's a fairly *ahem* natural mistake to make.

And a pretty interesting one, really.

I've met a lot of people who went the other way, though, and assumed that ALL Armor Ratings worked the way you thought NAR did, using only natural strike rolls against the AR.

(excludes any talk about Nat. AR vs MD)
NAR: Natural Armor Rating
Nat AR: All attacks below the AR do no damage. (If they hit the Nat. AR target there might be some secondary effect but that be up to the GM. example: magic arrow that just need to touch to take effect) Any hit to the Nat. AR target, the damage is taken off the SDC 1st, and only after the SDC is gone does the damage effect the HP.

Both Beings, armor and equipment can have a Nat. AR. However, in HU1r Nat AR was also called Robotic AR for when it was used with robots, vehicles, and other equipment.

In HU, with the APS powers, there are additional & APS specific, details about Nat. AR. (APS metal & APS stone)

In N&SS, there is a quasi-Nat. AR physical training power, that has its own limitations.( 'chi-gung' page 117)
